I know it looks as if Brexit have won but in every single case, if you add up all the votes secured by the other parties then together they have more votes than Brexit. That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

I heard Alistair Campbell say this too and I said (like Shopping) that he was talking shite. I'm a remainer BTW but we're going out like it or not.

The real comfort is that even if we are out, can the Leavers keep us out? I doubt it. We'll re-join the EU one day and sooner than many think, I believe.

I think you'll find when we finally leave, others will follow. The EU will cease to exist 💨

I think you'll find when we finally leave, others will follow. The EU will cease to exist

That's what I think too

Suiker · 29/05/2019 01:27

The EU will cease to exist

Even if it were true, isn’t it inevitable the next would be to recreate the EU?

The EU, for good or bad, and in some form or another, is how the neighbouring countries that will still exist, work together

Suiker · 29/05/2019 01:31

Sorry, I meant the next step

Desolate1 · 29/05/2019 06:58

🙄

This country is leaving an organisation that is not perfect but that has many good things going for it. Not least the fact that we are economically better off being part of it - and that matters.

But a lack of understanding of the EU, almost 50 years of anti EU propaganda by Tory sceptics and a toxic press, austerity and demagogues like Farage riding its waves, have meant that we are now in this position. Already much poorer than projections had us, and we haven’t left yet. Looking at having another demagogue as PM. Intolerance on the rise. Trade deals with Trump looming in the new future - without EU protections, and including our own NHS as bait. Millionaires like Arron Banks also waiting for that cherry. Some Tories salivating at the prospect of ripping up EU protections in lots of areas of life.

And the people who will suffer most are the poorest.

However we voted for this so we are going through with it.

But let’s have the courtesy and humility not to wish it on others. Our friends and neighbours.

TheAngryLlama · 29/05/2019 07:07

The unity and strength of purpose shown by the EU in the Brexit negotiations has been striking. No one else - not even le pen - is talking about leaving. They’ve seen what’s happened to us and they’re not that stupid.
The idea it will collapse when we leave is arrogant to the point of insanity.

AlaskanOilBaron · 29/05/2019 07:09

I think you'll find when we finally leave, others will follow. The EU will cease to exist

I agree.

Scotland seceding and attempting to (re)enter the EU (should it come to pass) will speed everything along.

tomtom1999xx · 29/05/2019 07:20

We’re not leaving the EU.
It doesn’t matter how many people want to leave, parliament won’t let us because it’s not what they want.
All this anger and division for nothing.

F1zzB1zz · 29/05/2019 07:23

Think we seriously need another referendum now or we’re going to crash out. It’s such a nightmare. If we do crash I suspect we’ll have several years of shite which will put Tories and poss Labour solidly in the wilderness. We’ll separate from Scotland. Think our kids across Europe will spend much of their time trying to recreate what we had. Thankfully having seen their parents go through the nightmare that is Brexit and it’s consequences they won’t mske the same mistake again.

Such a bloody waste of time and money. I really hate being English at the moment,it’s a really strange feeling. The U.K. feels small, petty and inward with a really shite future ahead.

AlaskanOilBaron · 29/05/2019 08:58

It doesn’t matter how many people want to leave, parliament won’t let us because it’s not what they want.

Parliament is in charge for the moment. If the EU elections are anything to go by (I think they are), the next UK election will be a reckoning.

Desolate1 · 29/05/2019 09:00

parliament won’t let us because it’s not what they want.

It was the ERG and DUP who blocked May’s deal. We would already be out.

HoustonBess · 29/05/2019 09:02

Were not leaving the EU because the deal we have now is much better than anything else available. Politicians know the backlash for any kind of brexit that damages the country would be huge.

They might delay until they know there will be a definite and clear majority for remain, but revoking or PV are the only politically acceptable solutions. They'd rather piss voters off now than make them impoverished a bit later.

F1zzB1zz · 29/05/2019 09:06

Do people really believe the Brexit party would win an election or would be fit to run the country? Would people really want them making major decisions in other areas?Confused

Yes another election would be interesting. Doubt Con and Labour would do well. Pretty sure Lib Dem would. Wonder if Corbyn is still going to call for one.Smile

AlaskanOilBaron · 29/05/2019 09:11

I think that if it came to it, we'd have new Tory and Labour candidates cropping up with very clear remain vs leave positions, denouncing the lack of clarity/integrity of previous MPs/leadership, and they'd do well at it.

tomtom1999xx · 29/05/2019 09:13

Desolate1
May’s deal is worse than what we already have so I don’t blame them!

noodlenosefraggle · 29/05/2019 09:19

I suspect the EU will be stronger without us. The Tories and the press have been griping and whining about the EU since we joined, blaming them for things we could easily have sorted out under EU rules. They will be able to continue unencumbered, a superpower on our doorsteps. They have huge new trade deals with most of the world. The countries they don't have deals with are desperate to do deals with them. Those same countries are salivating at the thought of us leaving, as we'll be so desperate for a deal that they will be able to dump their hormone pumped low welfare standard meat on us when the EU don't allow it in.

F1zzB1zz · 29/05/2019 09:27

But we already have that re new Tory Con candidates. Are people really going to vote for the same deadlock? Lib Dem would come out as the remain party, nobody would trust wishy washyLabour either way and which leave policy would Cons go for? Hard or a deal/ what deal. They can’t agree as it is. All leavers have had 3 years to decide as it is. Wake us all up when you’ve decided what kind of leave it will be.

And surely the leave vote will be split between Conscand Brexit Party so Cons would have to have a policy that took the BP vote ie hard Brexit. Would the electorate go for that in their droves?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/05/2019 09:31

Pretty sure Lib Dem would lib dem did appallingly last GE- they have a leader who is already confirmed to step down and the tainted past of Nick Clegg to contend with - i cant see them doing that well if a GE was called tomorrow

F1zzB1zz · 29/05/2019 09:34

Erm they did astonishingly well in the European elections. I voted for Green and would vote for them in a heart beat in a GE. I was livid over tuition fees which is literally small fry compared to Brexit, Woukdnt give fees or anything else a second thought now. They are now literally the only party fit to run the country.

F1zzB1zz · 29/05/2019 09:46

I think voters would want absolute clarity re what they were voting for in a GE now. None of these lies or smoke screens.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/05/2019 10:05

They did but I dont necessarily think the votes in one translates to votes in another....cant say I know who the hell would come out on top.
Any MP calling for a GE at the moment is utterly foolish- no seat is guaranteed.

BishopBrennansArse · 29/05/2019 11:06

@OnlyFoolsnMothers ours is you could put a pig in a blue rosette and they'd get in

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/05/2019 11:10

you could put a pig in a blue rosette and they'd get in HAHA!

AlaskanOilBaron · 29/05/2019 12:19

There are hard Brexiteers across the spectrum who are not being served by their party so this logically would force the Tory and Labour party both to clarify their positions or risk leaving a lot of voters on the table.

Maybe a Brexit Left and a Brexit Right party....?
