someone starts a word or expression and many mners start using it, it comes a fad, then after a while i=someone will say it's a tossy expression and everyone else agrees then said expression thankfully disappears from mn
said 'getting ducks in a row' is not often seen.
banging on about prosecco,
anyone think of any others ?

see I often end up adopting and using these in "real life" and am always gobsmacked no one else has heard of them! A particular favourite I've nicked is for those times you would rather do anything other than what someone has asked = I'd rather shit in my hands and clap.

I saw a car license plate with LBD on it the other day and did a MN twinkly laugh to myself Grin

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 22/05/2019 09:41

Anyone who suggests leaving the kids with DH and going for a spa day when he’s being a twat raises suspicion with me!

Nickpan · 22/05/2019 09:41

'shit in hands' and LBD have been around for years, not necessarily MN

Breathlessness · 22/05/2019 09:42

Do you mean LTB?

DorothyZbornak · 22/05/2019 09:43

"You need to give your head a wobble"
Hate it! Angry

BrainScience · 22/05/2019 09:44

There’s always one of those pennymordaunt

OP - my dh hasn’t helped me with the kids or housework for 5 years, last night he didn’t come home and slept with my sister.

Helpful MN’er - Leave him at home with the kids for the day and take yourself off for a spa day to teach him a lesson.

fecketyfeck21 · 22/05/2019 09:49

god yes, get rid of have a spa day, and the secret hobby, sshh, he plays golf, er, yeah, so do millions of others world wide so that's very outting.

red flag is over used too,it's like a communist meeting point sometimes on here.

Breathlessness Yes, I absolutely did! Grin Ha, think I said Little Black Dress didn't I?!

They probably have been around for years but I'd not come across either until MN, and I've still not heard them beyond here!

AGoodWench · 22/05/2019 10:01

Golf?! I always thought the mysterious hobby was cycling!

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 22/05/2019 10:19

I've articulated my dislike of the 'spa day' phenomenon for other reasons on another thread, but the other one that drives me mad is "tinkly laugh".

fecketyfeck21 · 22/05/2019 10:23

did you mean to be so rude ? er, yes i did so what ?

OP posts:
RedDogsBeg · 22/05/2019 10:29

TheTit the 'tinkly laugh' must always be accompanied by a 'head tilt'. The image that produces in my mind is not favourable to anyone who would do it.

The Paddington bear hard stare that causes those on the receiving end to quake in their boots.

boredboredboredboredbored · 22/05/2019 10:59

Red flags everywhere and I've never known more narcissists than diagnosed in MN.

Pgqio · 22/05/2019 11:04

Quiet word annoys me for some reason, along with get down to the grip shop and that irritating one about circuses and monkeys.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/05/2019 11:09

I think a tinkly laugh accompanied by a head tilt is fine. Especially when followed up with a Paddington hard stare.

AGoodWench · 22/05/2019 11:09

Having a "gentle word" is far worse imho. or "gently" suggesting. in my mind's eye it goes with a head tilt and may even lead to the ultimate weaponization of the tinkly laugh.

DHhasahobbyanditsnotcycling · 22/05/2019 11:25

naice

must be the most irritating word on this forum.

Are you me?
I am furious/enraged on your behalf
Fuck off Daily Mail (we know you want to be on it, but your thread is not that interesting!)

Tattletale · 22/05/2019 11:31

Picky bits gives me the rage for some unknown reason. Also shit hot lawyer is annoying.

Pgqio · 22/05/2019 11:33

Bad or completely inaccurate legal advice. Posters always use legalese in a very pompous manner as well and it's invariably completely wrong.

lillighters85 · 22/05/2019 11:37

Unmumsnetty hugs. Stupid.

soulrunner · 22/05/2019 11:37

‘Shit hot lawyer’ just makes me laugh after I had to pick up an acquaintance of mine from police station after they got arrested for D&D. Police were trying to release him but he kept banging on about wrongful arrest and how his shit hot ( non- existent) lawyer was on his way.

GabrielleNelson · 22/05/2019 11:38

'Gentle word' etc make me see red! Emails that start 'Dear Colleagues, This is a gentle reminder that .... ' Why the need to be gentle? It implies that if we don't pay attention there will be a violent reminder to follow. Ditto 'quiet word'. They both imply that the person sending reminder/having word will have a false smile plastered on and quite possibly be tilting their head at the same time.

And breathe ...

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 22/05/2019 11:43

Does he have form for this?

Nibbles and bits

Paddington stare

Hobbies that are outing

Its a wedding invitation not a summons

Did you mean to be so rude

No is a complete sentence

Alsohuman · 22/05/2019 11:43

Tinkly little laugh
Head tilt
Sit them down for a chat
Give your head a wobble
She’s had her turn
Lovely hamper

I could go on ad infinitum.
