someone starts a word or expression and many mners start using it, it comes a fad, then after a while i=someone will say it's a tossy expression and everyone else agrees then said expression thankfully disappears from mn
said 'getting ducks in a row' is not often seen.
banging on about prosecco,
anyone think of any others ?

The read and run thing is totally pointless on this site because you can't see who has viewed the post. On digital spy you can see how many people have opened and read it and chosen to ignore you, it can be quite depressing.

ChicCroissant · 22/05/2019 14:36

I used to see 'read and run' on another forum, which showed how many people had read the thread so it would make sense there. I have a vivid recollection of a poster complaining that she'd had x readers of her thread and no responses, because I'd just started reading that forum and avoided her after that!

Nip it in the bud is a little overused on MN currently fans flames

GabrielleNelson · 22/05/2019 14:42

I like '"No" is a complete sentence'. It's aimed at people like me who are far too prone to saying something like 'Ummmm.... Oh..... I'm really sorry, but ...... that's quite difficult, actually, and I'm not sure I can .... You see, I've got x and y on that week, and .....' and the end result is us mugs get railroaded into doing something we didn't want to do, when all we had to do was say 'No, that doesn't work for me' and move on.

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 22/05/2019 14:42

“Woke” used as some kind of insult

Yes! I always imagine the poster typing that and then sitting back with a smug look and thinking how down with the kids they are.

RubberTreePlant · 22/05/2019 14:45

I haven't seen so much 'log it with 101' recently. Thank god.

Tinkly little laughers are drippy idiots. I wish that one would die a death.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 22/05/2019 14:46

My pet hate is fuming or fumming 😁. Why can't people be cross, angry, upset, livid, raging?

FrontRowSeat · 22/05/2019 14:53

What on earth is Woke? I must be ancient!

PollyEsterblouse · 22/05/2019 14:53

I Googled limerent to see if it might be a new buzzword, only to find it's been around since 1979. I see it on Mumsnet a great deal, but have never heard or read it in real life Confused

DontCallMeShitley · 22/05/2019 14:57

Fuming, is not so bad as the often seen version 'Fumming' possibly used by people who have a dinning table.

'Give your head a wobble' is one I heard way before MN, usually in an Irish accent and probably by Jim MacDonald in Coronation St., along with 'catch yerself on' which hasn't reached the boards yet.

Sagradafamiliar · 22/05/2019 15:00

Someone wrote a really sensible, thoughtful post to an OP the other but finished it with, 'lawyer up'. FFS!

thecatsthecats · 22/05/2019 15:10

Unmumsnetty hugs. Stupid.

This is the worst of the lot.

I mean, if you genuinely thing that an OP is in need of a virtual hug, why not just say so, instead of signalling to everyone on the thread that yes, you are sending virtual hugs, even though you know it's against the entirely snotty and imaginary rules? Why not just, you know, do it?

onanothertrain · 22/05/2019 15:13

Oh do fuck off dear
Limerance
Ducks in a row
All annoy me and what the fuck is a tinkly laugh?

Freshbreadandbutter · 22/05/2019 15:17

I loathe tinkly laugh
Hate unhinged too
Cannot abide little ones

Snazzygoldfish · 22/05/2019 15:18

Yup - hate it hate it hate it!

Intothe · 22/05/2019 15:31

The other one that irritates me is someone who has read the Daily Mail, is embarrassed they've read the daily mail, so comes on a thread with a link to what to the Daily Mail article stating 'sorry for the daily fail link'.

We KNOW you read the Daily Mail, otherwise you wouldn't have found the article, so OWN IT!

Intothe · 22/05/2019 15:33

And then you have:

YANBU
However YABU for providing a link to the Daily Fail

Intothe · 22/05/2019 15:34

I never quite figured out why MNers hate the Daily Mail. Might have origins from before my time.

Freshbreadandbutter · 22/05/2019 16:34

Intothe er cos it's a shit paper maybe?

Alsohuman · 22/05/2019 16:36

Because the Daily Fail is a fascist shit rag.

And cool wives as an insult when you don’t give a toss about trivia.

PickAChew · 22/05/2019 16:39

Getting your ducks in a row is not a mumsnet neologism. It's a phrase that was used in conversation by a friend the same age as my parents when I was preparing to get away from my ex, 17 years ago and, indeed, getting all my ducks in a row.

Intothe · 22/05/2019 16:41

Never read it apart from links provided here so have no idea what their agenda is. Always wondered why the hatred. So they're fascist? In fairness TM is a bit of a fascist. Though I believe she's willing to step down now that she's made a royal cock up of everything.

Intothe · 22/05/2019 16:43

neologism

Care to explain that particular neo-nonsense word? I don't intend to google words used on a chat website that would be more appropriate to the Chambers.

Intothe · 22/05/2019 16:46

Why is the DM fascist? Apart from TM the dictator, they seem to me to be more of a human interest paper? Albeit like all tabloids, a bit grief-vulturing.

I watched The Nightcrawler the other evening. Not sure whether it was a fucked up film or exemplary of all paparazzi - I suspect real life is somewhere in the middle.

Reallybadidea · 22/05/2019 16:50

'You sound entitled' was very popular for a good few years. Can't remember last time I saw it now.
'Did you mean to sounds so rude?' seemed to lose popularity once people started using it IRL and found out that, yes, very often they did mean to be so rude.
'No is a complete sentence' has gone out of fashion. If someone had tried that on me I'd have asked "did you mean to be so rude?" Grin

shartsi · 22/05/2019 16:53

I hate " colour me confused " , colour me stupid, colour me etc
