someone starts a word or expression and many mners start using it, it comes a fad, then after a while i=someone will say it's a tossy expression and everyone else agrees then said expression thankfully disappears from mn
said 'getting ducks in a row' is not often seen.
banging on about prosecco,
anyone think of any others ?

Daffodil2018 · 22/05/2019 13:54

Someone’s already mentioned it, but yes the overuse of “narcissist” to describe someone (usually a MIL) who is just plain unlikeable. Not everyone nasty is a narcissist!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 22/05/2019 13:56

"unkind" being the worst thing in the whole wide world ever.

People don't go round saying "you mustn't be unkind", they usually say things like "FFS, don't be such a dick".

Unkind. Such a twee MNy word.

DarlingNikita · 22/05/2019 13:58

Batshit is another expression I’ve never heard in real life

I use it quite a lot. I'm generally quite foul-mouthed though

BabyMoonPie · 22/05/2019 14:00

Resting bitch face. It makes no sense (because it's wrong!)

HollySniffs · 22/05/2019 14:01

You sound like hard work OP Wink.

SureTry · 22/05/2019 14:02

Sanpro - what's wrong with just saying sanitary towel, pads, tampon, mooncup or whatever you use? I know I'm probably being unreasonable but it just irks me for some reason.

BadLad · 22/05/2019 14:08

"Cray cray" sounds ridiculous to me. I've only ever heard it on here.

Don't hear so many referenced to The Script any more. A few years ago, no matter what a STBXH did after an affair, it was part of The Script. If an OP had posted that, on being found out, her husband had cut his ears off and shoved onions up his bum, someone would have posted that it was all too predictable, and he was following the script to the letter.

When they have children, of course they do.
I don't really use the word "dick" in any conversation at all, I rarely swear, but "unkind" I use it a lot.

just quicker to write sanpro as a generic word.

better than the DSanitaryPad or Dtampax someone will come up with one day

Kettleison · 22/05/2019 14:11

Outsourcing cleaning..

I wish that had been sin binned

Kettleison · 22/05/2019 14:12

Resting bitch face isn't MN speak. It is also possible

decisionsindecisions · 22/05/2019 14:17

DarlingNikita - This is not what I said. I said that if you were receiving nasty messages you could report it to the police as an actual crime. You would not "log it with 101", particularly if you felt threatened or frightened. In those circumstances surely you would simply report the crime. The alternative, if you do not wish to report it and you were not in any physical danger or did not know the person (such as strangers on social media), would be to block the person sending the messages.

As someone who had a panic button installed by the police both in my house and car I think I have some idea of what harassment/stalking is.

Plinney · 22/05/2019 14:18

I like ducks in a row.

Its a rather sweet image.

And it expresses the sentiment perfectly. It can be misused though for trivial things.

Smile.

S1naidSucks · 22/05/2019 14:18

Blimey, some posters are a bit sensitive, aren’t you? Who gives a shit how things are expressed on Mumsnet? People use terminology that they feel comfortable with, not to seem cool or funny, most of the time. There are a few threads that pop up on Mumsnet every so often and this is one of them. Along with the ‘why do childless people post on Mumsnet?’

It’s not compulsory to read comments, you know.

shartsi · 22/05/2019 14:20

There was a time where baby names beginning with the letter K were considered chavvy and your child will not grow up to be a high court judge!

Ohtherewearethen · 22/05/2019 14:24

'No is a complete sentence' always baffles me as it's just so ridiculously incorrect and makes the user appear a bit silly.
Im another one for hating 'get your ducks in a row' and 'be kind to yourself'.
There are becoming very few individual opinions on here, the hive mind and shared lingo often makes each response very repetitive. I tend not to respond if I agree with the previous posts and have nothing new to offer but I get that it can be reassuring to know that lots of people agree with/can reassure/congratulate you, etc.

I don’t have any advice but didn’t want to just read and run

I think this one comes from way back, when you used to be able to see what thread another poster was reading.
