someone starts a word or expression and many mners start using it, it comes a fad, then after a while i=someone will say it's a tossy expression and everyone else agrees then said expression thankfully disappears from mn
said 'getting ducks in a row' is not often seen.
banging on about prosecco,
anyone think of any others ?

'Outing' - why is everyone so terrified of being exposed? And no-one in real life says 'outing'!

Hollowvictory · 22/05/2019 11:46

Naice ham

RosemaryRemember · 22/05/2019 11:46

Anonymity is handy when discussing kids tbh.

Hollowvictory · 22/05/2019 11:47

'went to a certain Swedish furniture shop'
Why can't you say ikea????!

DHhasahobbyanditsnotcycling · 22/05/2019 11:48

why is everyone so terrified of being exposed?

do you really want your neighbour or your work colleague to know your rant against your husband, your neighbour or your periods problems?
Or do you want your in-laws to know how you despise them, people knowing your kids problems at school etc?

who could possibly want to be exposed?

If my boss knew I was on MN right now, he might not find it that funny either Grin

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 22/05/2019 11:51

That's fair enough but hobbies are rarely outing, it's usually cycling, hiking, golf or tennis.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 22/05/2019 11:51

Long live Balonz

Nuttyaboutnutella · 22/05/2019 11:52

Fuck off to the far side of fuck then fuck off some more.

No idea why but this really annoys me. If anyone said this IRL, I'd just think they sound like a knob.

DHhasahobbyanditsnotcycling · 22/05/2019 11:53

depends. If you are talking about a competition last weekend, and someone happens to be in the same one, read through your history for fun and realise it's you because of all your other posts.

If you are in one of the 100 of similar competitions held on the same day, then no, you won't identify someone you don't know Grin

viques · 22/05/2019 12:03

Fuming.

I'm not, but it makes me mildly irked. And usually turns out to be about something that a simple human discussion could have sorted in moments.

decisionsindecisions · 22/05/2019 12:03

Nutty has beaten me to it. I hate "fuck off to the far side of fuck etc". There has been some recent threads on here where that saying was in the actual title. Do people think it makes them sound funny, clever, witty? No love, it makes you sound like a twat.

I would put the word "gavel" at the end of this post but some people may find it annoying Grin

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 22/05/2019 12:05

Yeah I give not wanting to be outed a pass. I know a few friends of mine post on MN and I want to be able to post about some stuff without one of them putting two and two together with the help of advanced search and coming up with Tit.

Although quite often the OP says "NCed for this as outing" and then there is literally nothing that could be outing within the post, even if read in combination with other posts, which is a bit Confused.

decisionsindecisions · 22/05/2019 12:06

And while I think about I also hate people who suggest logging things with 101. Like the police don't have better things to do than log things that are not an actual crime. If you are being sent nasty messages by your estranged husband/partner/some friend you have fallen out with then you can either report it to the police as harassment (if it is) or, alternatively you could simply block the twat if you don't believe you are in physical danger.

shartsi · 22/05/2019 12:07

I haven't seen "did you mean to be rude? " as a recommended comeback in a while.

viques · 22/05/2019 12:07

Meant to say I quite like fumming . Reminds me of an irate toddler who has had a bit of a tantrum, got a bit weepy and is now enjoying a comfort thumb suck flavoured with tears and snot.

ChampionThreadKiller · 22/05/2019 12:07

I don’t have any advice but didn’t want to just read and run

How would we even know that you’ve read the post in the first place?? Confused

kaitlinktm · 22/05/2019 12:08

Yes - I often wonder why people have to sit someone down before discussing stuff. Maybe it's because of the potential shock.

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 22/05/2019 12:09

Give your head a wobble irritates me because it makes no sense. Ditto "get your arse handed to you."

And "boils my piss" because it's gross.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 22/05/2019 12:10

"Did you mean to be so rude?" I don't understand why so many MN'ers think this is a witty put down.

SansasSnatch · 22/05/2019 12:11
PiggyPlumPie · 22/05/2019 12:11

Pop the baby wherever - annoys me for no particular reason!

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 22/05/2019 12:13

"This is a MASSIVE safeguarding issue!" The vast majority of the time when I see this on MN it's nothing to do with safeguarding whatsoever. Also, describing anything that's not very nice as "abusive". Completely minimises the experience of actual abuse.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 22/05/2019 12:16

"your house/wedding/child/delete as appropriate, your rules"

"that parent"

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 22/05/2019 12:18

"my little family" bullshit

DarlingNikita · 22/05/2019 12:19

Loads of these are used IRL though, not just on MN. 'give your head a wobble'/'have a word with yourself' I use myself IRL, for starters.

decisions, 'being sent nasty messages' IS 'an actual crime' and not to be minimised.
