To ask if you remember the days when we didn't have to get our feet summer ready

It got warm, we slipped on our Jesus sandals (sometimes with our tights on) and greeted summer.
Maybe we'd paint our toe nails but there was no pressure to file away at our feet, put on some heel cream, buy a Footner.
We weren't shamed by our yellowing heels - they were just part of our wonderful feet that performed the miraculous feat (😊) of carrying us around decade after decade.

It wasn't that hot years ago was it ? I never really wore sandals Grin

BeardofZeus · 12/05/2019 16:17

I think (to put this nicely) you think about the last time you studied someone else’s feet in the detail you think others do to you.

I wear whatever shoes make me happy, with no thought to the condition of my feet EXCEPT when it pleases me to go and have a pedicure (mainly for the glorious foot scrub massage)

Honestly my toe nails are never in great condition due to my job and footwear but if i let that stop me I’d ned daily pedi’s to wear open toes :)

You're forgetting the summer of 1976, Processedpea!

I clearly never lived in that era and I’m nearly 53. Have always expected to take care of my feet.

KneelJustKneel · 12/05/2019 16:19

I dont think most people really worry about it that much do they? Just wear what you want to wear.

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 16:20

I’ve just done mine
I hate having manky feet
I don’t usually judge others but I saw someone the other day with sling backs on and they were so not summer ready with a good inch or so of very very dry white heels - must be sooo uncomfortable when they are so hard or is that just me 🤭

TheGoogleMum · 12/05/2019 16:22

I never do anything with my feet. Is it something we need to worry about? :s

IncrediblySadToo · 12/05/2019 16:22

They look the same 24/7/365 🤷🏻‍♀️

dudsville · 12/05/2019 16:22

Ah, OP, you make me think back to my youth in the 70's. I didn't even wear outfits, just threw things on and went. Clean, bare faced and happy!

Now, I'm not unhappy looking after my feet these days. I really, really like it in bed at night when I rub my feet together and don't get lacerated by the rough skin! That feels like a luxury that I'm happy to indulge in!

anothernotherone · 12/05/2019 16:22

I never got my feet "summer ready" despite spending a lot of summers barefoot... I still wouldn't. It's does not appear to have held me back.

I suspect that this is only a thing in the kind of magazines they sell in supermarkets/ have in waiting rooms, not in most people's real lives ..

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 16:24

It is a real thing and most people I know do it.... is it just me then? I have always done it. In fact really hard to get a pedicure booked during summer because people want them before going on their holiday. I taught myself (it’s quite easy) and just don’t let it get so bad it needs professional help. Rough heels are uncomfortable and feel horrible in sandals, on sheets etc I don’t like it

handslikecowstits · 12/05/2019 16:25

Can't say I've ever bothered with this 'beach ready' 'summer ready' stuff. These concepts are just another stick with which to beat women.

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 16:26

I would not want to get into bed with a man with really hard calloused feet either. It’s not just women. I assume people look after their feet of either sex!

Strugglingtodomybest · 12/05/2019 16:26

I'm not that bothered about having summer ready feet. I wear flip flops all the time and my feet aren't in the best condition, but hey ho!

AnyFucker · 12/05/2019 16:27

I just do what I have always done. If I feel like it.

dudsville · 12/05/2019 16:34

does that link work?

dudsville · 12/05/2019 16:34

(gasp, ah!, my first ever successful link!)

MsFenellaFielding · 12/05/2019 16:36

I don't know of anyone with "a good inch or so" of hard skin on their feet. I imagine if they did have, they would not wear slingbacks.

MsFenellaFielding · 12/05/2019 16:38

Sorry, I do remember just wearing sandles without "prep".

floraloctopus · 12/05/2019 16:39

Yes, I remember it well - I got my feet summer ready today when I put my sandals on.

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 16:40

@MsFenellaFielding it was the only reason I noticed was it was one of the worst I’ve seen.
It was hot weather so she was wearing sling back shoes

Crinkle77 · 12/05/2019 16:44

I still don't get my feet summer ready.

diddl · 12/05/2019 16:46

My feet usually spend the Winter in socks & then are bare when warm enough.

Heels can get dry & I occasionally remember to moisturise them.

Went out recently & decided to try outfit (dress & tights) a few days in advance.

Good job as heels needed moisturising for a couple of days beforehand so that tights weren't in danger of being shredded!Blush

GetUpAgain · 12/05/2019 16:46

Yes all this summer ready crap is so sexist and shite.

I was conceived in the summer of 76 so I guess my mum stayed indoors with her feet up Shock

SecretWitch · 12/05/2019 16:50

I take care of my feet because it pleases me (well actually foot, as I only have one leg. I do get half off at my salon, though, so there’s that)
