To ask if you remember the days when we didn't have to get our feet summer ready

It got warm, we slipped on our Jesus sandals (sometimes with our tights on) and greeted summer.
Maybe we'd paint our toe nails but there was no pressure to file away at our feet, put on some heel cream, buy a Footner.
We weren't shamed by our yellowing heels - they were just part of our wonderful feet that performed the miraculous feat (😊) of carrying us around decade after decade.

It has literally never occurred to me that my feet could be summer ready or not. They're just feet. They work fine.

ohtheholidays · 12/05/2019 18:56

Does anyone on here know if there's somewhere you can go for a pedicure/treatment if you have a fungal nail infection

I've not suffered with it before,I've been told it's to do with all of the meds/steriods I have to take and being immunosuppressed.

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 19:00

Most reputable salons should disinfect all their equipment between clients so it is worth calling and asking - technically they should treat everyone like they may have one to prevent any spread of anything. But I am unsure in practice whether they would. I am sure loads of people turn up and don’t disclose it? Do they get turned away?

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally · 12/05/2019 19:01

Those of you going barefoot all the time or wearing flipflops - beware of fallen arches!

I distinctly remember my mother's feet in the 80s with cracked heels. Not a good look.

PlatypusLeague · 12/05/2019 19:08

I am not a show animal to be "groomed". Clean is good enough. Ready for the summer, winter, beach etc. any time GinGlitterball

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 12/05/2019 19:10

I try not to look at other people's feet. Or my own if I can help it. They're on the other end of your body from your eyes and nose for a reason imo.

I freely admit to having horrible feet. I try not to draw attention to them with nail polish.

Ukelou · 12/05/2019 19:10

A fungal infection would prevent a pedicure treatment being carried out, it is highly infectious. Yes salons will/should disinfect between each client but they still shouldn't treat infected nails. And it will spread it to uninfected nails etc. If somewhere did do a pedicure on infected nails I wouldn't trust them.

BasilTheGreat · 12/05/2019 19:12

I never had a pedicures done professionally or for that matter, had a facial. I guess I’m stuck in the 70’s Grin

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 19:13

I’ve never had a facial

MariaNovella · 12/05/2019 19:14

Facials are a waste of time. Pedicures aren’t.

JacquesHammer · 12/05/2019 19:15

I don’t do “summer ready”

I do however moisturise my feet after a shower/bath at the same time as all the rest of my skin. It would be bizarre to take care of all my skin bar my feet.

I paint my toes all year round because I absolutely hate the look of toe nails. No idea why.

I never paint my finger nails.

Baloonphobia · 12/05/2019 19:16

The only time I notice other people's cracked heels is when they're going up an escalator in front of me.

ohtheholidays · 12/05/2019 19:16

I completely agree Ukelou and I would never go somewhere like that because I wouldn't want to be the reason that someone else had problems with they're nails.

It's not for beauty reasons that I want it doing it's for health reasons.

I know years ago that my Mum and 1 of her friends visited somewhere that was able to offer health treatments but sadly my DMum and her Friend have passed away so I can't ask them what the place was called so I thought I'd ask on here if anyone had heard of anything like it.

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 19:18

Are you having the fungal infection treated?

toomuchtooold · 12/05/2019 19:20

The skin on my feet gets harder in the summer, I get callused feet from walking about everywhere barefoot. I'm not sure something like an acid foot peel is going to help matters at all TBH (although the idea of peeling off all that skin is grossly satisfying, I have to say).

jellyfish70 · 12/05/2019 19:21

It wasn't that hot years ago was it ? I never really wore sandals grin

What? Hmm of course it was!!

jellyfish70 · 12/05/2019 19:23

I'm 48, have always kept my feet nice in winter and summer. I share my bed my with DH and shouldn't think he's like to feel rough skin. I like painted nails too, all year round. My feet are always ready! Always benefit from a bit of sun though.

donutrehomer · 12/05/2019 19:27

I use Vicks on my feet and cut my toenails. The thought of someone touching my feet is simply unbearable.

Baloonphobia · 12/05/2019 19:34

What does Vicks do? Is it the decongestant stuff in the tub?

SoyDora · 12/05/2019 19:37

I don’t get my feet ‘summer ready’, because I look after them all year round! Hate dry skin on my heels, so I file and moisturise them a couple of times a week.

VioletCharlotte · 12/05/2019 19:43

Like pp, I like to take care of my feet (and the rest of my body!) all year round. This includes scrubbing off any dry skin, and running in foot cream and keeping my nails trimmed and applying nail polish. I do this because I like the way it makes my feet look, none of it is for anyone else's benefit.

NaturalBornWoman · 12/05/2019 19:48

When men start spending £££ on their feet just so they can leave the house in summer I might do more than trim my nails and pumice occasionally.

My husband uses the same soap/chiropody sponge combo and foot cream as me. Cracked heels are just as painful for men as women.

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally · 12/05/2019 19:49

Oh god - this thread is turning into Style & Beauty. Next someone will be recommending the perfect "tee" or talking about having Botox to stop them looking cross.

I have male feet - so am at a disadvantage already :), having said that, I am envious of other guys who can wear flipflops and not cause people to recoil - ie feet that are reasonably chubby, rather than bony, and whose size perfectly fits the flip flop, with no gaps between the toes.

I benefit from neither of those things

My feet look so bad that, once, after a bad car accident where they were cutting my shoes off in A&E, having sent the helicopter out, I remember feeling a bit mortified they were going to be seen.
