To ask if you remember the days when we didn't have to get our feet summer ready

It got warm, we slipped on our Jesus sandals (sometimes with our tights on) and greeted summer.
Maybe we'd paint our toe nails but there was no pressure to file away at our feet, put on some heel cream, buy a Footner.
We weren't shamed by our yellowing heels - they were just part of our wonderful feet that performed the miraculous feat (😊) of carrying us around decade after decade.

Grin @ SW

I have nice feet, partly genetic and partly because I have never worn heels and haven't abused them

I like good quality footwear and I love summer when I paint my toe nails for the associations with holidays and good weather

RuffleCrow · 12/05/2019 16:57

When men start spending £££ on their feet just so they can leave the house in summer I might do more than trim my nails and pumice occasionally.

Hedgehogblues · 12/05/2019 16:58

I do nothing at all with my feet

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 12/05/2019 17:01

I don’t get this. Do people only look after their feet in summer?
I don’t do pedicures but all year round I cut my toenails and moisturise my feet. The only extra I might do is paint my toe nails.
Apart from work shifts where I have to wear enclosed shoes for safety reasons I will be wearing sandals exclusively until at least the end of September.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 12/05/2019 17:16

My feet look like feet. They don’t have anything that needs grating away Shock. They are similar to my hands. I have no idea why the rest of you do this?

Wannabeyorkshirelass · 12/05/2019 17:17

I have no idea how to get my feet summer ready and if it involves more than 'putting on appropriate footwear and going outside' then I'm not interested.

Bambamber · 12/05/2019 17:21

I always look after my feet, doesn't have to cost a lot or take a lot of time.

Normally consists of just trimming my toenails, a bit of nail varnish, getting rid of any dead skin if there is any, and a touch of moisturiser. Takes about 10 mins every couple of weeks. If I'm lucky my husband will exfoliate and moisturise my feet for me, especially now I'm pregnant.

I love the feel of soft, smooth skin

Mustbetimeforachange · 12/05/2019 17:27

FGS it's like the eyebrows thing

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 17:30

I do it all year round but in winter you wear socks and boots/trainers so the skin stays softer for longer iyswim? Doesn’t need as much maintenance but I still do it

When you start walking on hard ground barefoot or wearing certain summer type shoes they need a bit more maintenance. Some people have very good feet genetically that don’t have as much hard skin I think. Mine would probably go really hard if I didn’t look after them

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 17:35

So no one ever has this or sees this and think it looks painful?
Obviously beauty industry is just making a fast buck out of nothing Grin

Madbengalmum · 12/05/2019 17:38

Pookie, fissured heels can be very painful and if you wanted to get them fixed you should be visiting the foot health industry ie foot health professional or podiatrist not the beauty industry.

GreenShadow · 12/05/2019 17:38

I obviously live in an alternative universe.

Apart from regularly cutting toe nails and painting toe nails in the summer, that's about it. I've never heard of a 'footner'

Maybe I just naturally have beautiful feet without all this fuss Grin

Elphame · 12/05/2019 17:40

I can't say I have ever looked that closely at a random strangers feet so no PookieDo I haven't.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 12/05/2019 17:42

My feet look nice all year round but most people's are still minging.

PanamaPattie · 12/05/2019 17:44

My feet come out of my winter boots all soft and ready for anything. I'm never summer ready - unless you count taking my cardigan off when it gets a bit warmer.

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 17:51

If it gets that bad you need a professional
But most people keep their feet in good shape using stuff from the beauty industry.
I use a nice Pumice and foot file, some foot cream from Sanctuary and sometimes also some nice natural exfoliant
I use oil on my nails because they can get all dry

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally · 12/05/2019 17:52

I suspect that this is only a thing in the kind of magazines they sell in supermarkets/ have in waiting rooms, not in most people's real lives

There speaks a woman who has never ventured onto the Style & Beauty board.

They sell things like this in Tescos 😂they even sell it in the pharmacy aisle too

Aragog · 12/05/2019 17:58

My feet get really bad at times. I have a skin condition which can cause them to get very dry in places, white and cracked, and sometimes bleed. I do have treatment from the GP but it doesn't solve it. Yes, it can be very painful - but that's regardless on the shoe I am wearing. Beauty produces os not going to help them in the slightest - and can often make them even worse infact.

I still wear sandals and flip-flops on holiday and in the summer. Infant having the sun and warmth on them can help.

I'm not hiding away just because some strangers might see my feet and it somehow offend them!

Fortunately my dh loves me as I am and would never dream of having a go at me for my feet, or not want to have me in his bed.

I have to say - I never look at other people's feet when they are walking in warm weather. My thoughts and eyes are on other things I guess, not looking down.

Monkeyssplit · 12/05/2019 17:58

Nobody told me about summer ready feet. I don't do anything to my feet other than cut my nails.

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally · 12/05/2019 17:59

Are they?

I don’t go looking at other peoples feet I was very close to this person at the time in the same vicinity and it was very obvious. It looked uncomfortable and I feel for anyone who has a skin condition because I find it uncomfortable. I didn’t say unsightly

anothernotherone · 12/05/2019 18:02

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally well quite Grin but seriously... It's only a thing if you want it to be a thing, like most cosmetic fluff. As long as you're always clean and your clothes for you and are appropriate for the task you're doing, the rest is ££££ and time and worry spent on a hobby. Not doing all the weird and wonderful things waiting room magazines pretend everyone does doesn't hold anyone back in any area of life, IMO.

Annabk · 12/05/2019 18:04

Never done anything to my feet other than cut my toenails. Hadn’t given it a second thought but this thread’s now making me wonder if people thing I’m grotty when I wear flip flops Confused

anothernotherone · 12/05/2019 18:04

*fit you not for you...

Not proofreading is certainly more likely to have a negative result than not following made up "beauty" routines...
