To ask if you remember the days when we didn't have to get our feet summer ready

It got warm, we slipped on our Jesus sandals (sometimes with our tights on) and greeted summer.
Maybe we'd paint our toe nails but there was no pressure to file away at our feet, put on some heel cream, buy a Footner.
We weren't shamed by our yellowing heels - they were just part of our wonderful feet that performed the miraculous feat (😊) of carrying us around decade after decade.

Sorry the thread didn't go the way you wanted it to, OP. Hmm

Iamnotagoddess · 12/05/2019 19:52

I hate that because I am pasty white I feel totally crap about baring my legs Sad

WorraLiberty · 12/05/2019 19:53

I've always got one or two pairs of sandals that zip up at the back.

Handy for covering heels when you can't be arsed to sort them out.

funkylittleboatrace · 12/05/2019 19:57

I'm glad people care about their trotters or I would be out of a job. ( five pedicures today with gel polish thank you good weather ) .

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 19:58

The clean sheet feeling is so ruined by a bad feet feeling 😂

P.s new look have some really nice Tees 2 for £12 and not cropped!

I have horrible legs. They are the fattest part of me and I have some lovely cankles. I only wear dresses just below the knee. I should shave them one day...

Dotty1970 · 12/05/2019 19:59

Omg I'm not good with feet, I never show mine at all unless I've had a pedi or done it myself.
I don't inspect others feet I really don't, but for instance, your stood in a queue your eyes wander, they may even wander to the floor where someone's feet might be, there maybe feet in sandals that should never see the light of day where other humans or animals are.
I nearly wretched the other day I glanced down and this person had dry hard skin, cracked, nails that were about an inch long and yellow and god knows what else, I did only glance not inspect, seriously, why would you show them, whyConfused

NecklessMumster · 12/05/2019 20:00

In the 70s and 80s I used a pumice stone, 'pretty feet' exfoliater (weird stuff) Body Shop peppermint foot cream and nail varnish

Alsohuman · 12/05/2019 20:01

I’m incredulous that anyone’s incredulous that people look after their feet. A quick run over heels with a foot file, slap on some moisturiser, file and paint toenails takes no time at all.

MaxNormal · 12/05/2019 20:03

Is this yet another thing we woman have to spend time and effort on? Before or after all the hairs are yanked off our genitals?

JacquesHammer · 12/05/2019 20:04

Surely part of taking care of feet is basic hygiene that affects women or men.

I’m of the opinion that it’s polite to do the basic maintenance. The rest is personal choice!

Dotty1970 · 12/05/2019 20:05

topcat2014
My feet look so bad that, once, after a bad car accident where they were cutting my shoes off in A&E, having sent the helicopter out, I remember feeling a bit mortified they were going to be seen.

.... Now this is totally different to what I've said above, if this is how your feet are and have made you unhappy I'm sorry, and I expect they are not as bad as how you feel about them.
Don't wear flip flops which don't look nice really anyway, find something else more flattering, paint your nails nice in sure they're just fineFlowers

behave, no one has to do anything, do what makes you feel happy, I don't think people yanking their genital hair out is a bad thing if that's what they want and cleaning, filing and moisturising feet is a 5 minute job.... Oh we poor women

This!
My DH swipes my pumice!

MrsCakeTheMedium · 12/05/2019 20:09

A "good inch" of hard skin? Hmm

It makes you realise how far feminism still has to go when women are not only judging each other about the state of their feet but actually taking the time to bitch about it online. Hmm

Not unless you look up and find someone's holding a gun to your head Confused

Myusernameismud · 12/05/2019 20:12

Well I for one love a good pedi OP, have it done once in the first week of good weather and then maintain it myself after that, until the boots go back on in late autumn. I have eczema and mild psoriasis, and I'm on my feet at work all day, usually in trainers or boots. So yeah, they get pretty minging.
I will only ever have a pedi in a salon away from where I live Grin I appreciate some of you will be horrified by that.
Last month I had a pedi done by a fantastic guy called JJ from Barcelona, who didn't bat an eyelid at the mountains of foot shavings that were tumbling to the ground (and touching his own feet in the process )

So yeah, OP. I miss the days when I didn't have to and could just whip out my beautiful, soft feet. But alas, I am older and heavier and I just don't like the thought of having scuzzy feet in flip flops.

Myusernameismud · 12/05/2019 20:13

Also, for the record, very cracked heels are bloody painful.

KneelJustKneel · 12/05/2019 20:14

Dotty - beacuse they fancied weaekng sandals? Beacuse they're not wearing sandals to show yuou their feet but beacuse they like them/want to feel cooler than in shoes?

Really does everyone have to look asceticly pleasing to be allowed to wear or do certain things!?

Alsohuman · 12/05/2019 20:14

Didn’t realise feminism meant having unkempt feet. Yet another way I’ve been doing it wrong for half a century.

Mucky1 · 12/05/2019 20:14

A friend passed this unwanted present on to me and it's fabulous! I will be buying something similar when the time comes

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 20:15

@MrsCakeTheMedium

I said this
And I said it looked painful and uncomfortable. I didn’t judge her appearance in any other way for any other reason. She actually was kneeling down at the time and i was standing behind her. I didn’t say anything and I felt bad for her if nothing else as it looks uncomfortable
My DM also has very bad feet and this is because she can’t reach them. She won’t go and get them seen to so they just hurt her and she puts up with it
You don’t have to put up with uncomfortable feet it doesn’t make you fucking vain

SoyDora · 12/05/2019 20:18

DH, who barely knows what grooming is bar a daily shower and shave, pumices his feet and puts some foot moisturiser on them every now and then. They’re rank if he doesn’t.

KneelJustKneel · 12/05/2019 20:24

Who knows what that person is doing though? Some people have bad feet AND see a dr/slather in cream etc and they're still bad. Doesnt mean they shouldn't wear sandals in case it will upset others sensibilities/fear of being judged.

If people are happy with their feet and want to wear sandals thats great. The judgement on here is awful.

Madbengalmum · 12/05/2019 20:24

I am going to bust your myths ladies and gents..."

I work on feet all day long as a specialist in this area.

Cracked heels can be painful and can get infected, but they can be eradicated with the help of a foot health professional, you need some bladework to get rid of this and then specialist creams, buying creams and just applying them won't work.

Fungal nails can be eradicated, but the treatment must be applied to the nailbed and this can be painless prepared by a foot specialist, buying nail paint and applying it your nail directly won't work and will be a waste of money. Plus a medical pedicure can be offered by a foot specialist, but with proper equipment so a not to cross contaminate, beauty salons with foot spas are infact the place where most of my patients contract such issues!

And lastly, as hard skin and callus come from friction don't be fooled that your foot rasp is the answer to your problems, because by rubbing you are encouraging further friction and starting the cycle of callus again!

The upshot is, if you need to ,spend some money on getting your feet done properly and then do some good aftercare and your feet will be good to go. Gimmicky rasps, peels etc are just that gimmicks that are not sufficiently in depth to provide any longer term relief.

NaughtyLittlePassport · 12/05/2019 20:24

I wash mine? Most days. In fact I find it hilarious to run my heel up DHs leg so he whinges that it's like a cheese grater Grin
