....to think that this is a new low in the Meghan Markle Debacle

Up to now I've been fairly neutral about Harry and Meghan. I'm not a royalist, im a bit of a republican, but I like to see what the royals are up to, and like a royal wedding. The family rows, extravagant baby shower, all the rumours....I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt, i was pretty indifferent. And i liked the way she was shaking up the royal family.
However, this sickened me a bit. Using an instagram post supposed to benefit mental health charities to flog her rich mate's £900 a night hotel/retreat. Its such a blatantly tasteless and crass thing to do I think its shocking. Welcome the new Fergie.

Where has this happened...? Not seen anything like this on their Instagram.

Alsohuman · 12/05/2019 14:58

Link or screenshot would help.

Its the post with the pic split into 9 squares.

It's the fucking Mail and it's a complete non story.

Unicornshopkeeper · 12/05/2019 15:00

Meh

InTheHeatofLisbon · 12/05/2019 15:00

I'd describe myself as a Scottish republican (as opposed to Irish), but I think the treatment MM has received in general from the media is abhorrent, and thinly disguised racism.

Whatever the woman does she'll be attacked for it. Nobody bats an eyelid when Kate wears something her friend made, or highlights a business.

“Visitors to the Sussexes’ Instagram page are encouraged to follow 48-year-old Mrs Toomey, whose profile includes a link to her website. Once there, they are only four clicks away from booking a £3,600 four-night retreat ...”

Bestfootforward1 · 12/05/2019 15:02

It was the fact it was so blatant. And hidden in a post about struggling mental health charities. I dont think she is helping herself by doing this tacky type of thing.

Great. The Daily Fail.

This statement says it all:

but among the many admirable causes is a lucrative business run by fashion industry executive turned fitness guru Taryn Toomey.

Among the many admirable causes and Daily Fail focuses on one.

Four clicks away the article also states so their followers would have to choose to look into it. It also says it’s THEIR Instagram so constantly blaming the Duchess of Sussex and acting as if Prince Harry has no say, is eye-rolling.

God, does the Daily Fail have anything better to do.

Bestfootforward1 · 12/05/2019 15:03

Do they not have enough money?

OP posts:
Clawdy · 12/05/2019 15:03

If you believe the Daily Mail, you'll believe anything.

Chilledout11 · 12/05/2019 15:03

I feel a lot of the attacks on Meghan are wrong and veiled racism sadly. Harry looks so happy. Wish they would leave them alone. She is American/celeb status and she isn't the stiff quiet type that Kate portrays herself to be but maybe that's a good thing.

birmanbaby · 12/05/2019 15:03

It’s tacky and ridiculously misguided.

Encourage people to follow MIND, Samaritans or any other mental health charity.

Not your mates yoga page ffs

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 12/05/2019 15:03

Yeh, you're so obviously neutral about her. Another bollocks thread about MM.

birmanbaby · 12/05/2019 15:04

It’s got nothing to do with the daily mail. It’s right there on their Instagram page!

shartsi · 12/05/2019 15:05

The Instagram account is for both Meghan and Harry but you lay all the blame on her.

When prince George wears an outfit and it us sold out in the shops afterwards, do you blame his parents for plugging the shop?

SecondGo · 12/05/2019 15:05

Don’t they have a PR team doing this stuff? Or is it actually the royal family sat around posting on Instagram?

Treaclesweet · 12/05/2019 15:07

Oh do one.

EdWinchester · 12/05/2019 15:07

This is just bollocks.

More spiteful criticism for no purpose. I just wish racists people would leave her alone.

YABVVVU to start yet another thread disingenuously claiming faux horror about the Duchess of Sussex

StreetDreams · 12/05/2019 15:08

I reckon most places on the internet are only 4 clicks away from something much worse than an exclusive retreat.

I'm actively anti-royalist and even I think the way the media treat Meghan Markle is nakedly racist.

TooManyPaws · 12/05/2019 15:09

Dunno, OP, can you get much lower?

HBStowe · 12/05/2019 15:10

See the problem is, if you get your news from a racist, sensationalist shitrag like the daily mail, you will be fed bullshit fake news.

The Sussexes didn’t advertise an expensive retreat. One of the 16 mental health charities and businesses they are highlighting this month is The Class. While a Caribbean retreat is one of the things this business offers, it is mainly focussed on ‘clean-eating’ recipes / workouts / detoxes etc, with free content on the website. Which, IMO, is a whole load of waffly bollocks that doesn’t really have much to do with actual mental health BUT is very in keeping with Harry and Meghan’s focus on healthy living / veganism etc and is clearly not the crass, nefarious advert the DM are trying to paint it as.

People - we have to start being discerning about the media we consume, especially when we know it has poor credentials. You know the daily mail is renowned for exaggeration, prejudice, lies and bullshit. So instead of swallowing a story, look beyond it, go to the source, do your own research. Don’t be manipulated by faux-outrage from a media provider who wants to stir you up to serve their own purposes.
