....to think that this is a new low in the Meghan Markle Debacle

Up to now I've been fairly neutral about Harry and Meghan. I'm not a royalist, im a bit of a republican, but I like to see what the royals are up to, and like a royal wedding. The family rows, extravagant baby shower, all the rumours....I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt, i was pretty indifferent. And i liked the way she was shaking up the royal family.
However, this sickened me a bit. Using an instagram post supposed to benefit mental health charities to flog her rich mate's £900 a night hotel/retreat. Its such a blatantly tasteless and crass thing to do I think its shocking. Welcome the new Fergie.

Each picture of the montage has a reference to where it came from and a link to a charity.
Every picture has a link to the source.
Its a copyright thing surely?
Complete overreaction.

PigletJohn · 12/05/2019 15:12

I don't understand the concept of something being "blatantly" four clicks away.

The Fail carries numerous links to the most scurrilous and repellent stories and ads. One click away.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 12/05/2019 15:12

So they haven't advertised her resort they've posted a friends profile. And her profile just happens to have a link to her business on it?

Whats blantant about that op seems fairly unblantant to me. Blanant woukd be goimg hay everyone go to this resort

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 12/05/2019 15:13

It's a matter of fact that it is a commercial venture.

It is a matter of fact that the woman who owns and operates the commercial venture is (a) a friend of MM's and (b) has no qualifications in mental health

It is a matter of fact that the Royal Family are not meant to promote commercial ventures.

None of these facts have anything to do either directly or indirectly with MM's race.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 12/05/2019 15:14

Of course it is an advertisement. It is also an endorsement. It is totally inappropriate

areyoubeingserviced · 12/05/2019 15:14

Op, YABU and totally ridiculous.

LaurieMarlow · 12/05/2019 15:15

I’m sorry, can’t really see the issue.

I agree that most of the Meghan bashing is barely suppressed racism. I’m shocked at how widespread it is.

Bestfootforward1 · 12/05/2019 15:15

"It’s got nothing to do with the daily mail. It’s right there on their Instagram page!"
Precisely. Its not 4 clicks away, its ONE click away.
Its got nothing to do with MM or the fact its in the Mail (which I hate), I thought it was equally as tacky when Fergie sold time with Prince Andrew for thousands.
It annoys me they could be helping real good causes like Samaritans, Young People's mental health. But if no-ones bothered, oh well, good luck to them.

The Royal family should also be linking to charities who have an evidenced based approach from mental health professionals. Not someone with no qualifications and whose main objective is to flog expensive lotions and potions

InTheHeatofLisbon · 12/05/2019 15:16

This story doesn't, no. But they'd likely have let it slide if they didn't already despise her. I don't recall such an outrage when Carole Middleton used her grandchildren to recently plug their failing party business.

It is a matter of fact that the Royal Family are not meant to promote commercial ventures.

And yet female royals do, regularly. By what they choose to wear or choose to dress their children in.

Bestfootforward1 · 12/05/2019 15:16

"Of course it is an advertisement. It is also an endorsement. It is totally inappropriate"
Totally agree. Shame on Harry too.

I agree with you bestfoot and I think a large number of HCPs specialising in mental health will too.

SecretWitch · 12/05/2019 15:17

How wonderful to hate on a new mother! Does this make you feel better about yourself? Ain’t nothing better than a little racism disguised as “concern”, eh, Op?

LaurieMarlow · 12/05/2019 15:19

Four clicks away ffs. Hmm

What isn’t four clicks always on the internet?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 12/05/2019 15:19

The RF have to wear clothes. But they pay in full for those clothes and are not permitted to accept gifts from the brand. They are not permitted to advertise commercial ventures and this is what this is.

Bettercallsaul1 · 12/05/2019 15:20

Another anti-Meghan thread. The same tired issues being raised - her baby shower which her friends paid for (including travel) her "family rows" which were caused not by her but by her poisonous, mercenary sister and foolish, misguided father. The treatment she receives in some quarters is shameful.

Bestfootforward1 · 12/05/2019 15:20

Its equally as disgusting what the Middletons have done by using their royal family connections for their own profit. Both as bad as each other. However, i mentioned this one as it has just happened. Its tacky.

OP posts:
L1nkedOut · 12/05/2019 15:20

non story. if you visit her site then you are going to get links to stuff she likes.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 12/05/2019 15:21

But they pay in full for those clothes and are not permitted to accept gifts from the brand.

That's not true. When the Obamas met George, he was wearing a dressing gown. It was a gift from the company, who said so when their site crashed.

All this convention and royal protocol is archaic and ridiculous any way.

Sneering at MM appears to be the in thing.

It's pretty pathetic tbh.

Bestfootforward1 · 12/05/2019 15:22

Wow im surprised at the apathetic response. Its a bit corrupt and should not be allowed.

OP posts:
Notmyrealname855 · 12/05/2019 15:22

I follow the Sussex IG page and was surprised when they posted this tbh - it is a commercial venture, for people to spend several thousand at yoga retreats. A few of us queried this on their post - didn’t think royals could plug private businesses, or ones owned by friends, and tbh I did find it very distasteful that it was done on a post about mental health. The business is run by MM’s friend (this was pointed out by one of the IG posters at the time), who had attended her baby shower in New York.

Surprised it’s taken so long for the press to pick up on really. Agree the DM is grim, and agree reporting on MM has been off previously, but why Harry and her haven’t come under fire for this is also odd. It was a very obvious plug for a very specific company, and feels very wrong to do it on a mental health post. The company is a private venture, nothing close to a charity. It would be like them plugging Goop. Found it really strange they tried to do the plug amongst some really good causes. Plus the Sussexes unfollowed really good causes - including those supporting veterans and fighting AIDs - to focus on those in the post.

An odd and unethical move.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 12/05/2019 15:22

Did you start a thread when the Middletons did it OP?

HBStowe · 12/05/2019 15:23

People always claim to hate the daily mail until it’s the only media source that supports their particular pet prejudice. But remember - all of the reasons why you despite it normally (lack of transparency, inaccuracy in reporting, disregard for the truth, obvious agenda, misogyny, racism, homophobia) also apply to articles which support how you feel. This isn’t a case of a stopped clock being right twice a day. This is a case of you ignoring the obvious issues with this article because it happens to support an agenda you agree with.
