....to think that this is a new low in the Meghan Markle Debacle

Up to now I've been fairly neutral about Harry and Meghan. I'm not a royalist, im a bit of a republican, but I like to see what the royals are up to, and like a royal wedding. The family rows, extravagant baby shower, all the rumours....I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt, i was pretty indifferent. And i liked the way she was shaking up the royal family.
However, this sickened me a bit. Using an instagram post supposed to benefit mental health charities to flog her rich mate's £900 a night hotel/retreat. Its such a blatantly tasteless and crass thing to do I think its shocking. Welcome the new Fergie.

Oh really you abvu! Meghan didn't post this she's too busy with her new baby. It's poorly judged aide mistake trying to link uk and us chartites/organisations. Daily mail make a story from nothing again Hmm

Notmyrealname855 · 12/05/2019 17:40

How do you not believe it when it’s on the Sussex’s own IG page? You can see it for yourself... it’s a direct plug of a friend’s yoga retreat, and which costs thousands, under the guise of supporting mental health...

Bestfootforward1 · 12/05/2019 17:41

"Marilynmansonsthermos

Yes you are being very unreasonable. Don't believe this rubbish"

What's to believe? It's right there on the Sussex Instagram account.

To all those saying the story is not true because it's in the daily fail....

It's on their official instagram page, if you click on the post it it links to her friends exclusive retreat that charges £900 per night, she is endorsing it by posting it on her Instagram.

It's a fact. She's advertising her mates business.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 12/05/2019 17:43

All profits from the Duchy of Cornwall go to charitable causes - not to Prince Charles. There are also lots of other organic brands to chose fromnid you would rather profits went to private companies 🤔.

Here's a primary source confirming that - www.princeofwales.gov.uk/what-duchy-originals-it-anything-do-duchy-cornwall

It's not in any way equal to this situation

piffar · 12/05/2019 17:43

I didn't read this on the DM, I clicked on the links in the insta as I had not heard of a few.

I work in mental health and i think it's awful to promote businesses on mental health day. Especially as people reaching out for help are particularly vulnerable. It is outrageous that any business regardless of who runs it and what they offer should tout themselves as mental health, when not one of its approaches or staff are mental health professionals.

Diets, self help etc which are not supported by evidence should not be recommended.

mm knows that this is a blatant plug. She's not stupid.

I'd call out anyone sharing this on mental health awareness day or week. It's awful

Notmyrealname855 · 12/05/2019 17:43

It is not a charity or mental health organisation

Their friend plugs products and runs retreats - she’s an influencer. Her retreat is in Mustique

piffar · 12/05/2019 17:46

Yanbu.

People who say that this is another attack on MM are most definitely BU.

This is wrong regardless of what you think of her. I quite frankly don't give two hoots about her. But this is wrong. And as it is her friends business, it is clear why she should take responsibility for sharing it.

Plenty of US and UK charities offer free help for those in mental health troubles without links to 900 quid retreats, for a profit company. Why didn't she share them?

It is quite clear why.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 12/05/2019 17:46

Yes. Don't belive your own eyes when you check instagram. Believe me. A random on the internet who hasn't bothered to check themselves. Oh. And if you don't believe me, you are racist.

Ironically, a lot of posters on this thread are being indirectly racist (and probably ageist) by arguing that the standards that MM and PH have breached should only apply to the other members of the Royal Family - who are white

AudacityOfHope · 12/05/2019 17:46

What law would the RF be breaking though in endorsing companies?

None. It's a convention. Not formalised through any type of legislation so I'm not sure what you think should really be done about it, and by whom.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 12/05/2019 17:48

Sorry Duchy Organics - not the Duchy of Cornwall

Drasticaction · 12/05/2019 17:51

I thought this was going to be about awful Samantha markels latest awful outburst!!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 12/05/2019 17:51

Not formalised through any type of legislation so I'm not sure what you think should really be done about it, and by whom.

MM and PH are breaking a code of conduct. What should happen:.

They are their advisors (use that term loosely) are given advice. If they continue to breach the standards, then they become private citizens and they can do what they want. But have no access to public funds - £3 million of which have just been used to make structural repairs and add security to Frogmore Cottage by pure dint of them being members of the RF.

MistyMinge · 12/05/2019 17:52

So fucking what.

She can't do right whatever she does. She's a human being like the rest of us. Maybe she genuinely thought she was being helpful.

SherlockSays · 12/05/2019 17:53

Do you honestly think that with a baby less than a week old she's posting on Instagram herself?

Bluestitch · 12/05/2019 17:55

It was posted before she had the baby.

Bluestitch · 12/05/2019 17:57

Plus why would having a newborn mean you can't post online?

Notmyrealname855 · 12/05/2019 17:57

So fucking what isn’t really the standard I’d hold for anyone in public office, but to each their own

Bluestitch · 12/05/2019 17:57

She's just posted a picture of his feet, I'm guessing she approved and oversaw that despite having a week old baby.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 12/05/2019 18:00

So, the people defending this - do any of you have mental health issues? Can you afford a hideously expensive yoga retreat? The fact that it won't do any good anyway is totally irrelevant. As are the Royal Family and their pathetic attempts to latch onto a popular issue that affects many many people.

There is a massive issue with mental health in this country and a real need for funding. Maybe the debate should be taking away some of the money used to,prop up these useless members of society and actually do something helpful for people with mental health issues who can't afford indulgences like a fucking yoga retreat.

I know mental health issues affect all members of society, but there are massive inequalities in access to treatment.

Oh, and I don't like any of them regardless of colour, creed or whatever.

feistymumma · 12/05/2019 18:01

@Chilledout11 spot on

Pinkarsedfly · 12/05/2019 18:02

Well, it might be bad form but she hasn’t actually hurt anybody, has she?

I can’t get arsed tbh.

L1nkedOut · 12/05/2019 18:04

Who looks on her/their site for cheap tips? Honestly!

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 12/05/2019 18:04

Andhaving a baby does not mean you're not a twat.

puppy23 · 12/05/2019 18:09

Arguably via this thread you're also promoting the resort - hope you're getting a decent wedge
