& if you did how much/often? Or what your opinions are on moderate drinking during pregnancy?

A small glass every now and then

mynameiscalypso · 29/04/2019 16:28

23 weeks here. Didn't have anything in the first trimester (partly because I felt so sick). Have a glass of champagne or glass of wine every couple of weeks now - normally saved for a special occasion.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/04/2019 16:29

Half a glass at about 7 weeks and half a glass at 14 weeks. Horrendous headache both times.

Thonki was 6 months pp before I drank again

Amelia910 · 29/04/2019 16:29

Nope nothing. The advice is there is no safe amount and its only 9 months so why take the risk.

Melamine · 29/04/2019 16:29

A small glass of red wine a handful of times. Expecting Better by Emily Oster is a good read on this subject.

Mississippilessly · 29/04/2019 16:29

Yes I did, a small glass on a Friday if I fancied it from 2nd trimester.

Marlena1 · 29/04/2019 16:29

I drank before I knew I was pregnant. I know people say it's fine but personally I think, why take the risk? It's nine months and I just don't think ot would be worth it.

Boom45 · 29/04/2019 16:29

I did in the second one, didn't fancy it at all in the first. Very little tho, i had a small glass of wine very occasionally - with a special meal for example.
Personally, i don't think a small amount now and again is an issue but i completely understand that lots of people are dead against it.

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/04/2019 16:30

I did.
This was a long time ago and my GP asked what I drank, I said Guinness, he said that was fine.
I know a few Doctors who drank, all in moderation.
But I assume that the guidelines all say no alcohol now

Sciurus83 · 29/04/2019 16:30

Three glasses of champagne, not all at once obviously!

kaytee87 · 29/04/2019 16:31

Why do you ask op?

I had half a bottle of beer at Christmas time when I was pregnant, didn't enjoy it as had nausea anyway.

What you mean by 'moderate' drinking? I don't think the odd drink will hurt but imo regular drinking should be avoided.

ethelfleda · 29/04/2019 16:31

This won’t end well.

But yes, I did. Very small glass of red once or twice and a couple of swigs of bud. Drunk very slowly!

crispysausagerolls · 29/04/2019 16:33

None.

InDubiousBattle · 29/04/2019 16:34

I didn't drink alcohol at all during either of my pregnancies, I just didn't feel like it at all. I don't believe that there is any risk at all in the occasional small glass of wine or beer if you want one though.

KnifeAngel · 29/04/2019 16:35

Not one drop. It's 9 months if you can't go without then I find that sad.

NorthernRunner · 29/04/2019 16:36

Not a drop when pregnant with the first, this time round I have had a couple of glasses of wine here and there. We went to Paris for our anniversary and I couldn’t not sample a small glass.
I’m 25 weeks and everything is fine with baby so far so those couple of glasses clearly didn’t do any harm.

nethunsreject · 29/04/2019 16:36

I had a few units very occasionally. BPAS have decent evidence based info instead of the patronising, lowest common denominator NHS guidelines. Infantalisation of pregnant women is one of my bug bears.

ilovecheese1 · 29/04/2019 16:38

I am 35 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy, it wasn’t planned & the age gap is very small. I didn’t feel like I got my body back - ever! We’ve also had a number of stressful things happen since the start of the pregnancy & all through out it too. I have found myself having 2 glasses of red or white wine about once or twice a week. I don’t feel good about it! Will this amount really harm the baby?

When I was pregnant with my son I had one small glass of really weak champagne and lemonade as we got it for some friends to celebrate the birth of their baby and they cracked it open while we were there. This time I'm 31 weeks and haven't had a drop and probably won't, I don't miss it at all and aren't a regular drinker anyway since having my son

nethunsreject · 29/04/2019 16:40

Most babies are conceived thanks to alcohol and, of course it's not a good idea to get drunk, but a unit or two now and then is okay.

Abbazed · 29/04/2019 16:40

Nothing. Foetal alcohol syndrome is awful

Fatted · 29/04/2019 16:41

Yes.

Unintentionally with DS1 when I got absolutely bladdered very early on. I had done a test before going out to a party but was negative. When the hangover never ended, I did a test just to find out it was actually morning sickness. I also went to a friend's wedding around 5/6 and had a few sips of champagne at the toast.

With DS2, I had a glass of supermarket bucks fizz on Christmas.

It's like everything, be sensible. Getting shit faced every weekend isn't a good idea. One drink in the entire pregnancy isn't likely to cause a problem.

racewhorse · 29/04/2019 16:41

I didn't have a single drop. Couldn't see the point at all

ilovecheese1 · 29/04/2019 16:41

Have never even come close to feeling ‘drunk’ if that matters

OP posts:
C1u4toff · 29/04/2019 16:41

I got married at 32 weeks pg and had two small glasses of prosecco. Nothing else in that pregnancy.

My first pregnancy I didn't find out until around 10 weeks and had drank every weekend. As soon as I found out not another drink until DS1 was around 8 months old
