& if you did how much/often? Or what your opinions are on moderate drinking during pregnancy?

Yes I did.

Not a lot but an occasional beer.

ilovecheese1 · 29/04/2019 17:07

Just under 5 weeks @roundligament xx

Only before I knew I was pregnant. I found alcohol free old mout cider was as nice as the real deal so had a few bottles of that in the summer. Not worth the risk imo.

NorthernRunner · 29/04/2019 17:09

Not long then ilovecheese

I have 14weeks to go. This is our second and last child. I’m feeling really connected to this one in the way I didn’t with my daughter 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s probably just because I know what’s coming.

In the words of the late great Scott Walker, take it easy on yourself!

Tunnocks34 · 29/04/2019 17:11

I had a half glass of champagne at 18 weeks, on my wedding day.

Nothing before and nothing since.

roundligament · 29/04/2019 17:11

I would just take care of my mental health don't get plastered and remember that stress has a very bad effect on a growing pregnancy and the mother. Best to stay as calm as possible and I don't think 2 glasses of wine 2 times a week will be a problem.
But I'll get flamed for that.
My son is perfect and was exposed to all sorts of medication and anti biotics in a very bad pregnancy as well as some wine.
He is honestly ahead of everything with development and now huge although he was 4lbs when he was born.
This baby is measuring bigger and I have drunk alcohol as I said for weeks on end on the weekend or not for weeks on end and usually a glass. Which is a glass.
Not a shot glass, not half a glass. Not a thimble.

Also friends who are medics drank through their pregnancy.

I didn’t with either of mine. I have a small age gap too and I did miss having a glass of wine sometimes but I wouldn’t want to risk it. I know te odd glass is supposed to be ok but it didn’t feel right.

SittinOnThaToilet · 29/04/2019 17:14

Not a single drop

5SleepingLions · 29/04/2019 17:16

I didn’t for any of mine but I know a lot of people who did and their babies were fine.
For me I just didn’t want to I just thought 9 months for me is nothing compared to their whole life.

LucyAutumn · 29/04/2019 17:16

I had nothing, mainly because I was deemed 'high risk' and didn't want to have anything to dwell on if it all went wrong.

I did/ do not judge others for having a glass, but I was shocked at how many people judged me for not doing, I was referred to as "boring"/ "ridiculous" and "being over the top" Confused

BlueMerchant · 29/04/2019 17:17

I did I'm ashamed to say. Blush when pregnant with my DS. He is perfect in every way but I would warn against it as despite my baby's growth charts coming up average and above throughout pregnancy he was born a low birth weight. I do blame myself.

ilovecheese1 · 29/04/2019 17:19

Thanks everyone for your input. I will look up expecting better Smile

How much were you drinking if you don’t mind sharing? @BlueMerchant

Lauren83 · 29/04/2019 17:21

Nothing in 1st trimester as couldn't face it but 31 weeks now and had a glass of wine or more likely a bottle of beer a couple of times a month for 2nd and 3rd trimester

SquatBetty · 29/04/2019 17:22

I had the occasional small glass of wine during both pregnancies. Not ashamed in the slightest.

tequillamockinbird · 29/04/2019 17:22

No, but that’s only because I’m not a big drinker and could probably go 9 months without drinking without being pregnant

Woolly17 · 29/04/2019 17:22

Expecting better is a great book. Sadly I can't face alcohol at all while pregnant (tastes disgusting and makes me feel sick) - got lots of stressful things happening all at once and I'd love a glass of wine at the weekend. But it will have to wait until my taste buds go back to normal.

Glittertwins · 29/04/2019 17:23

I couldn't face it, I was so sick with HG for 4 months. I tried a sip of Bucks Fizz on Christmas Day and it didn't do it for me.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 29/04/2019 17:23

Yes, I had a glass of wine about every other week through all three of my pregnancies.

Foetal alcohol syndrome is awful - agreed, but it is not caused by having the odd glass every now and again.

It’s a tricky one because obviously no studies can be done: no one is going to volunteer to drink lots and potentially harm their child, and in cases where the babies do seem to be affected by their mother’s alcohol intake, there are often other issues at play too (such as drug use or smoking) so it’s not a “fair test”. Consequently we don’t really know what is safe.

Personally I don’t believe that a unit or two a week will hurt the baby. However, I wouldn’t have consumed 4 or so glasses of wine a week as I think that’s creeping into “too much”.

NannaNoodleman · 29/04/2019 17:24

I had about 1/4 of a pint of Guinness and a 1/2 shandy with DS who was premature.

I had a small glass of red once a week with dinner with DD. We also went to a couple of weddings and it was Christmas so had champagne. She was full term and is ridiculously clever.

I'd say 4 glasses of wine a week isn't ideal but I don't think it's concerning. Have you been drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day? Keeping a reasonably good diet? Taking supplements?

DramaAlpaca · 29/04/2019 17:25

Of course not.

Juanaiguana · 29/04/2019 17:25

I did but we’re talking one glass on special occasions I.e weddings and Christmas.

Jumbojem · 29/04/2019 17:25

I had a glass of red (one glass) at the end of the week towards the end of both my pgs. Nothing in first trimester when I thought it had greatest impact. My boys were both born at 10lb + so clearly didn't affect their birth weight!

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 29/04/2019 17:27

I'd say regular drinking is possibly not a good thing, particularly if your growth scans are showing up small. By regular drinking, I mean once or twice a week. Maybe have one a week, if necessary, but even then I probably wouldn't (and didn't).

I had a few small glasses during my pregnancy, but once I could felt baby kick I just didn't want to, if that makes sense.

kaytee87 · 29/04/2019 17:27

Honestly I think that 4 glasses of wine a week is too much. That could be 12 units.
Have you drank like that the whole time? Do you feel like you need to do it?
