& if you did how much/often? Or what your opinions are on moderate drinking during pregnancy?

No alcohol for me.

I'm not a big drinker anyway...not quite teetotal but almost.

It wasn't a sacrifice for me not to drink. If I could never drink alcohol again, it wouldn't bother me.

LittleAndOften · 29/04/2019 16:42

No nothing. A small sacrifice when it can potentially be harmful to the baby.

Having said that, it's not really a sacrifice for me as I rarely drink alcohol. I don't get the urge to have one and so it's really not a big ask to abstain. I understand for others alcohol plays a bigger role in their lives, so changes may be harder to make - but is it that hard to give up short term?

NorthernRunner · 29/04/2019 16:43

The biggest cause for concern (from my understanding) is low birth weight.
Has everything been ok at your scans and midwife appointments?

ilovecheese1 · 29/04/2019 16:46

Yes @NorthernRunner scans have all be fine & I was actually measuring 2 weeks ahead at my 34 week midwife appt. I really don’t want to take this baby for granted we tried very hard for a long time for our first & I know what a blessing a child is. It’s just been completely different this time..

Honestly I had one unit or less daily from the second trimester onwards.
I know this is an unpopular choice but I did the research.

Bbang · 29/04/2019 16:47

I do, red wine mainly or a shandy every now and then. Steered clear of gin and cocktails. I’m 35 weeks with my third.

Houseonahill · 29/04/2019 16:47

Foetal alcohol syndrome is awful

Yes it is. It is not however caused by drinking 2 glasses of wine throughout the whole 9 months of pregnancy.

I had a cider at a concert when about 5 months and a glass of wine on my birthday when 7 months.

roundligament · 29/04/2019 16:49

Yes
On a Friday or Saturday a glass of wine / Prosecco
Sometimes every week for weeks then other times not for weeks on end

I find it affects my sleep to be honest which is why I stopped having it not because I worried about side effects.

MammaMia19 · 29/04/2019 16:50

I don't think 2-4 glasses a wine a week is a great idea. One or 2 small glasses should be ok but 4 seems a lot.

Mississippilessly · 29/04/2019 16:51

I believe the NHS says that abstinence is best but there is no research to say that 1-2 units once or twice a week should be ok.

The issue is that people dont realise what a unit is. Can you measure it out?

StillIRise87 · 29/04/2019 16:52

Two units a week after 16 weeks. Also read ' expecting better' by Emily Oster.

roundligament · 29/04/2019 16:52

My midwife said it's when people drink a bottle of vodka a day that it's a problem

You're in the last trimester I don't think it's an issue
I'm sorry you're struggling

When I say I have a glass of wine I mean a literal glass of wine not a thimble of it.
If baby weight is ok I think you'll be ok.

It's more to do with you in general feeling low and anxious that is the problem.
I think I would try to address that instead of drinking albeit you're not drinking much.

I really feel for you

NorthernRunner · 29/04/2019 16:52

To be honest (unpopular opinion) but the odd glass isn’t a problem.
A GP friend of mine says there is a blanket no in the UK because often women can’t just have one glass every now and then, and she actually drank throughout all her pregnancies.
It’s about using your common sense and perhaps not drinking vodka or super strong spirits.
Getting drunk is wrong, but honestly I wouldn’t worry about one or two here and there.

Honeybee85 · 29/04/2019 16:53

Currently pregnant and have not been drinking s single drop since finding out that I am pregnant.
It just doesnt feel right.

I hate it when people say things like: oh come on, just 1 glass of wine won’t cause any harm, lets have one together. Just no. I’d feel massively guilty if I did.

Babyfoal · 29/04/2019 16:54

No

ilovecheese1 · 29/04/2019 16:55

Thank you so much @roundligament 😥 so sweet of you to be nice to a stranger.

First pregnancy the odd glass of babycham as I didn't realise. Once I knew none at all. None during second or even since.

Chippychipsforme · 29/04/2019 16:55

The odd glass of wine here and there, glass of fizz at a wedding and at Christmas.

starbrightnight · 29/04/2019 16:56

Yes. It was in the early eighties and nobody ever said not to drink.

I never drank to excess but do remember one evening at 7 months I had a very merry time dancing at a party after two or three or maybe four (small, they were served small then) glasses of wine.

Mid thirties son works for the government now. Grin

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/04/2019 16:56

Nope, but then again i barely drink anyway- it was harder to have to drink decaf for the first trimester

GPatz · 29/04/2019 16:57

Nothing, but I certainly would not raise my eyebrows or judge anyone who had the odd glass here and there.

MrsMaow · 29/04/2019 16:58

Got absolutely trashed a couple of times before I realised I was pregnant, then no more. I rarely drink anyway but when I do have a drink I always want at least 2 more, so I thought it best not to have any

Prequelle · 29/04/2019 16:59

I had one shandy at the start and that's it. The smell makes me feel ill now.

I've gone from being a moderate drinker (I could drink 3 bottles of wine in one session, but would only do this like twice a year. Would stick to the one of a weekend) to nothing

roundligament · 29/04/2019 17:01

How many weeks have you got left @ilovecheese1 xx

WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour · 29/04/2019 17:01

I didn't have any with either pregnancy. Just felt it wasn't a big deal to go without for 18 months. I had a glass of champagne in recovery with both c sections though 👍
