This weekend it occurred to me that I say primark in a weird way!

Do you say it Primark (i as in eye)
Or Primark (i as in eee)

OP posts:
Bisset · 22/04/2019 02:01

Pri(eye)mark

I used to work there and no one I worked with pronounced it Pree-mark

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 22/04/2019 02:04

Pri(eye)mark

Hollyhobbi · 22/04/2019 02:04

You wouldn't have that problem in Ireland as it's the original of the species and it's called Penneys pronounced like pennies!

Rach182 · 22/04/2019 02:07

I worked there many moons ago (in Wales) and pretty much everyone said it as pree-mark

Interesting... presumably it’s a regional thing?

HeartShapedBox · 22/04/2019 02:11

Pr-eee-mark. Never heard anyone call it pr-eye-mark apart from English people on the telly (west coast of Scotland, here)

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 22/04/2019 02:18

Preyemark

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/04/2019 02:21

Preyemark here, Midlands

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2019 02:22

It's pr-eye-mark. But as a pp says, in Ireland where it originated it's just Penney's.

NunoGoncalves · 22/04/2019 02:23

In London and SE England I never heard anyone say Preemark.

Pr-eye-mark all the way!

llangennith · 22/04/2019 02:26

Here in Wales it's Preemark but most of England says Pr-eye-mark. I saw a programme on TV a while back and it's supposed to be pronounced Pr-eye-mark.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 22/04/2019 02:29

Oh i came on to say penneys. But other people already have.

Pr-eye-mark. I think penneys themselves have said this the correct way of proboucing it

I have a vague recolection of everyone going mad on twitter of omg i've been saying primark wrong

CTRL · 22/04/2019 02:32

Born and bred in London and I’ve always said Pree-Mark however in the last few years it seems it’s all changed to Pr(eye)-mark.

I won’t stop saying Preemark though

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 22/04/2019 02:33

I'm in Kent and we say pr-eye-mark

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 22/04/2019 02:35

Pry-mark

springydaff · 22/04/2019 02:38

pr(eye)mani

Rach182 · 22/04/2019 02:45

@NaughtToThreeSadOnions well that settles it...I've been saying it wrong

@springydaff ha! I've only heard that said pree-mani

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2019 03:07

Yes, it's pree-mani. Pr-eye-mark but Pree-mani. Hmm, I've never noticed that contradiction before.

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 22/04/2019 03:49

I’m so glad it’s not just me xxx
I call it pree-marche if I want to be posh x

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 22/04/2019 03:55

Pr-eye-marni

steff13 · 22/04/2019 04:18

I've never said it out loud, because we don't have it here. But in my head when I read it, it's Pry-mark.

Zoflorabore · 22/04/2019 04:26

Emphasis on "eye" here too. Have never heard it called "pree"

I'm in the North West.

Raisinbrain · 22/04/2019 04:30

Pry-Mark

JordanCatalano4Eva · 22/04/2019 04:45

I’m in Wales and it’s pry-mark.
