This weekend it occurred to me that I say primark in a weird way!

Do you say it Primark (i as in eye)
Or Primark (i as in eee)

SnowBrussels · 22/04/2019 05:46

Dreamzcancometrue · 22/04/2019 05:52

Im sure I've said it both ways before..

UCOinanOCG · 22/04/2019 05:58

I call it Pree-Mark. East coast of Scotland here.

floribunda18 · 22/04/2019 06:04

Of course its Pr"eye"mark.

It's a made up compound word consisting of Prime + Mark.

Flobochin · 22/04/2019 06:17

Primarnie?

JenniferJareau · 22/04/2019 06:19

Pri(eye)mark

Duffya93 · 22/04/2019 06:23

I pronounce it Penney's 😂 the most wonderful shop in the world.. mind you I remember when €50 could get you an arse load of stuff, might be lucky to get three items now!

Hopeygoflightly · 22/04/2019 07:33

Pree-mark. Am from NI and it’s an Irish store ( Penney’s in the South). When I was a kid the ads on tv all said Pre-mark.

mum11970 · 22/04/2019 07:37

Pr -eye- mark. I’m in North Wales.

implantsandaDyson · 22/04/2019 07:40

Preemark - Am in Belfast - its always been Primark - TV ads, radio jingles. I'm now humming the fabulously catchy Primark Christmas jingles of the 1980s Wink.

daisypond · 22/04/2019 07:47

Pry-mark. Lived in London for 30 years. Never heard anyone say pree-mark. As pp said, it’s made up of prime + mark so it’s the only one that makes sense.

PillowTalker · 22/04/2019 07:48

Pr-eee-mark

hairypaws · 22/04/2019 07:50

Pree mark here in central Scotland but I have heard plenty people call it preyemark up here too 🤷‍♀️

isabellerossignol · 22/04/2019 07:51

It will always be Pree-mark in N Ireland because that's what the company called it themselves when they had TV adverts back in the 80s. And old habits die hard.

isabellerossignol · 22/04/2019 07:53

As pp said, it’s made up of prime + mark so it’s the only one that makes sense.

Ah, but how do you pronounce 'primadonna' ? Grin

TapasForTwo · 22/04/2019 07:55

Never heard it pronounced Preemark. Pry-mark or Prymarnie all over Yorkshire.

AvocadoLovingMamaOfOne · 22/04/2019 07:56

Pree-mark here in Belfast, only ever heard English people call it pr-eye-mark

ems137 · 22/04/2019 08:02

I never knew there was a different way of saying Pr(eye)mark. I've never heard anyone say Preemark.

Iggity · 22/04/2019 08:04

Pree-mark. Grew up in NI but live in London. It will always be pree-mark.

ChocChocButtons · 22/04/2019 08:05

I pronounce it “shithole”

InceyWinceyette · 22/04/2019 08:08

HariboLecter · 22/04/2019 08:09
