CF county council has destroyed my wall!

I've name changed for this as it will probably end up quite outing...

The council are improving a 'road' next to my house, this road is not passable with a normal vehicle, only a 4wd. The posh golf course behind us wants to cut down lots of trees so need access for large vehicles, therefore the council have had workers there this week improving the lane.

I spoke to them about 4 days ago just to find out what they were doing (just being nosy!) and was told that they were improving the opposite end of the lane, but not my end due to funding.

I've come back from work today to find that they've decided to drain a large, muddy puddle (probably 40m long by 7m wide) by making a large hole in our dry stone wall and digging a trench onto our land, surely they can't just do this?????

Am planning on ringing them tomorrow and asking for the wall to be rebuilt and everything put back to how it was, anyone had a similar experience at all? I'm quite flabbergasted by the cheek to be honest Grin

Quite apart from not the right tools, what would the tree surgeons have gained? Surely breaking the wall to drain the massive puddle makes more sense?

LannieDuck · 26/04/2019 11:30

Wow, I share your annoyance. Glad the council are making the right noises...

PCohle · 26/04/2019 11:35

I hope you get somewhere with it OP!

CocoCharlie83 · 26/04/2019 13:34

As well as repairing the wall make sure they restore any disturbed areas of ground including if there are any issues from the water they introduced to your land from the works.

Ask to see the plans if they are doing works on the access track especially the SUDS (drainage) plans to ensure that they aren't going to introduce additional surface water onto your property.

Also tell them that you want all further workers made aware of your land boundary so they don't trespass or carry out any works which would effect your land.

Try get as much communication as you can in writing so you have proof even if you have a phone call follow it up with an email detailing what was discussed. This is just in case there are other issues down the line

Council man came out today, was very nice. Promised to have the wall rebuilt by a specialist team and they will remove the sludge on our land as well. So satisfactorily resolved I hope!

Wow, that's amazingly efficient of the council. Our lot would drag this out for years.

Hope they can get it done soon.

QueenBeex · 29/04/2019 20:58

Lovely old green wall and cute dogs op.

Looking forward to seeing your new wall and less sludgey land Wink

MyRankIsSuperintendent · 29/04/2019 21:00

That sounds very reasonable

VictoriaBun · 29/04/2019 21:01

Fingers crossed for you. Hope you also get Flowers

BlueEyedBengal · 30/04/2019 07:02

That's great but don't let them off the hook yet, make sure they get started on the job.

TheMaddHugger · 30/04/2019 07:04

🔆🌻😎sounds promising.

CanuckBC · 01/05/2019 16:55

Sounds very promising! I hope it doesn’t take too long to fix.

TheCouncilDestroyedMyWall · 01/05/2019 20:53

Someone has been and done a rather crap attempt at fixing the wall... I think it's the contractors that claim they didn't destroy it! I've emailed the council guy and he's confirmed that it wasn't his team and they are still due to fix it properly! Thought you'd all appreciate a laugh... Grin

Wow you'd never know it's been damaged 🤣

Killerqueen2244 · 01/05/2019 20:57

I think your pup is a bit suspicious about your new ‘wall’!!! Wink

PanamaPattie · 01/05/2019 21:08

You can't even see the join! Are you sure it's not the work of the tree surgeons? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/05/2019 21:40
Shock

Clearly not people who appreciate the art of stone walling.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 01/05/2019 21:47

I think the only thing cheekier than knocking down your wall is cheekily rebuilding it.
Badly.

MyRankIsSuperintendent · 01/05/2019 21:48

Definitely replaced like for like Grin

Goldmandra · 01/05/2019 21:55

Trying to avoid the large amount that will be lopped off their fee to pay for the specialists to put the wall back I guess.

BringOnTheScience · 01/05/2019 22:13

Wow!!!! Just.... well .... wow!

UterusUterusGhali · 01/05/2019 22:13

Bloody hell. Dry stone walking is a real skill! They'll have to get a specialist in and they're few and far between these days.
