CF county council has destroyed my wall!

I've name changed for this as it will probably end up quite outing...

The council are improving a 'road' next to my house, this road is not passable with a normal vehicle, only a 4wd. The posh golf course behind us wants to cut down lots of trees so need access for large vehicles, therefore the council have had workers there this week improving the lane.

I spoke to them about 4 days ago just to find out what they were doing (just being nosy!) and was told that they were improving the opposite end of the lane, but not my end due to funding.

I've come back from work today to find that they've decided to drain a large, muddy puddle (probably 40m long by 7m wide) by making a large hole in our dry stone wall and digging a trench onto our land, surely they can't just do this?????

Am planning on ringing them tomorrow and asking for the wall to be rebuilt and everything put back to how it was, anyone had a similar experience at all? I'm quite flabbergasted by the cheek to be honest Grin

@28Winterdaysarehere - look more closely, there's definitely two leads there otherwise they'd be two counties away Grin Grin Grin

Oh dear. I'm glad you have your wall back (I've lurked from the beginning) but that is an absolutely offensive piece of drystone walling. That was not done by a specialist drystone walling team.

Looks like a 10 yr old threw it up in 20 mins and threw some cement at the Cams to stop them falling off again.

QuiltingFlower · 01/12/2019 20:41

Yes, we’ve had something similar in past, it got very unpleasant . Took 7 months to get rebuilt and made good. To answer your question is no, they can’t.

Sorted out to our complete satisfaction eventually but the council was initially unwilling to cooperate. A little media attention persuaded them otherwise.

Good luck.

RandomMess · 01/12/2019 20:45

Glad you got there in the end!

Adorable dogs 💕

Lovely dogs x

Omg I can't believe it took this long
Glad its fixed though
Ddogs are as cute as ever Grin

TheCouncilDestroyedMyWall · 01/12/2019 20:56

@38Scrowy apparently Derbyshire's finest dry stone walling team (the council have their own specialist team!Hmm). The cement at the top is inkeeping with the rest of the wall though. To be honest, we can't see it from the house, and they've fixed a much wider bit than was destroyed. And I've given up with caring in the end, which pains me to say, but at least once the moss grows back over it'll look reasonable. The rest of the property is a 20 year project as well Grin

Given that the dogs are more interesting than the ending to the wall story, here's a couple more... Smile

Finally you got your wall back.

CokeAndCrispsAndDip · 01/12/2019 21:58

Yay! Finally. Glad you persevered.

Beautiful dogs by the way.

Shannith · 01/12/2019 21:59

Well done OP. You remained cheerful and pragmatic throughout, all resolved nicely, excellent update and bonus huskys.

You have set the gold standard for CF threads. One small minus point for lack of a diagram, but we'll let that one go in the spirit of the thing.

TheCouncilDestroyedMyWall · 02/12/2019 08:00

@Shannith I think that's the nicest thing ever said to me on the internet! Smile
I note the complaint regarding the diagram and I resolve to do better next time Grin
