CF county council has destroyed my wall!

I've name changed for this as it will probably end up quite outing...

The council are improving a 'road' next to my house, this road is not passable with a normal vehicle, only a 4wd. The posh golf course behind us wants to cut down lots of trees so need access for large vehicles, therefore the council have had workers there this week improving the lane.

I spoke to them about 4 days ago just to find out what they were doing (just being nosy!) and was told that they were improving the opposite end of the lane, but not my end due to funding.

I've come back from work today to find that they've decided to drain a large, muddy puddle (probably 40m long by 7m wide) by making a large hole in our dry stone wall and digging a trench onto our land, surely they can't just do this?????

Am planning on ringing them tomorrow and asking for the wall to be rebuilt and everything put back to how it was, anyone had a similar experience at all? I'm quite flabbergasted by the cheek to be honest Grin

Absolute CFery! Glad you're on the case OP, dry stone walling is expensive to put right.

BringOnTheScience · 15/04/2019 21:53

Well done OP. Worth calling your insurance too, to get their assessment of the damage.

Hoping for a speedy resolution for you (and your doggos!)

BoomBoomsCousin · 16/04/2019 05:09

Sounds positive OP. Hope it gets put back properly and quickly.

I don't know what the laws are nowadays about public bodies hiring contractors, but if they've had other complaints too I would put pressure on the council to blacklist this particular contractor from bidding on future contracts.

Stressedout10 · 17/04/2019 09:56

Has anyone from the council been out to look at your wall

greathat · 17/04/2019 11:00

Yes any progress?

Groovee · 17/04/2019 11:23

Jeezo. Hope they get it sorted by a specialist.

Princesspeachy0 · 17/04/2019 15:54

This is unbelievable Confused

Beautiful dogs!

CanuckBC · 17/04/2019 19:51

Beautiful dogs! I have a husky mix who is all white with a bit of cream on top❤️

What a mess they made🤬. It sounds positive with the news you have heard so far. I hope they follow through properly and you get everything fixed properly with some sort of compensation for the hassle.

It’s unbelievable how they just did it with no thought!

TheCouncilDestroyedMyWall · 18/04/2019 21:26

No progress I'm afraid, I doubt there will be more for a while due to the bank holiday

The contractors have finished today I think, and the lane does look much better (except my wall... Grin) I've resisted the urge to go down there and yell at them, so just waiting for the council response now, will leave it until after the bank holiday, then chase them again, sorry for the boring update!

So they didn't reinstate your wall as part of the works?

Stressedout10 · 23/04/2019 12:50

Any word from the council yet?

TheCouncilDestroyedMyWall · 23/04/2019 13:56

Nothing yet, although it's been the bank holiday. They haven't reinstated it as part of the works and I think they've finished. To be honest I wouldn't want them to touch it, I doubt they know how to build a dry stone wall!

So tomorrow (Weds), you are threatening to insert rockets up the appropriate orifices?!

Time to, by email for the evidence trail, express your intense disappointment that they have failed to act appropriately promptly. Call your insurance co to use the legal advice options.

No more waiting. Time to act.

BlueEyedBengal · 24/04/2019 00:33

Have you got legal cover on your insurance? As I think you may have to get in touch with them over the criminal damage caused to your boundary. They don't seem to be taking it seriously and should at least of been there to inspect the damage and put a plan in action.

TheCouncilDestroyedMyWall · 25/04/2019 17:29

Bit of an update for anyone that's interested

Phone call today from some manager somewhere, he's coming out Monday to look with me, they've got a specialist dry stone wall team that will rebuild it. Contractors denying doing it currently. He was very apologetic and promises to fix everything. So we'll see!

Fingers crossed lass!

BanningTheWordNaice · 25/04/2019 17:33

OP must be making this up, there’s no council that efficient 😛

WeeDangerousSpike · 25/04/2019 17:35

They're denying it?!

How are they suggesting it happened? Earthquake?!

TitianaTitsling · 25/04/2019 17:42

Hi on earth can they deny it?!

finnmcool · 25/04/2019 17:48

That's like a kid denying they've eaten chocolate, when it's smeared all over their face.

StoneofDestiny · 25/04/2019 18:03

Thank you for updating 👍

Prequelle · 25/04/2019 18:09

Glad they're sorting it. Honestly what goes through these contractors heads? Are they stupid or just not arsed?

woolduvet · 25/04/2019 19:04

Oh good

jackstini · 25/04/2019 20:46

Oh that's sounds promising

Looking forward to a pic of lovely new wall (with dogs?!)

TheCouncilDestroyedMyWall · 26/04/2019 09:08

They're trying to claim that the tree surgeon people must have done it. I pointed out that they only had big cutting tools and a chipping machine (they were removing dangerous trees overhanging the lane), not a digger! Grin
