DH thinks we're going to get arrested in Dubai

Going to Dubai next week for Easter on a mini break with DH. As a tactile couple who enjoys a couple of drinks with dinner he's getting really anxious that we're going to get arrested if we a) unthinkingly give each other a peck on the cheek or b) share a bottle of wine and have a giggle.

He has googled their strict laws and legal systems LOTS.

I think he's BU, his worries and mithering are making me not look as forward to a holiday I've saved hard for as much as I otherwise would.

Are we going to get arrested?!

If you stick to the hotels you’ll be fine. Usually where people have been caught out is because they’re drinking/groping in public. It helps that you’re married.

CallmeKaren · 04/04/2019 18:43

With your attitude, it's quite likely.

PotteringAlong · 04/04/2019 18:43

I think this is why people think twice before going to Dubai...

RhiWrites · 04/04/2019 18:43

You could. Why did you decide to go somewhere with rules you don’t want to follow and a very unfriendly legal system?

People will be along to tell you everyone makes out and drinks with no problem. But there have definitely been cases of foreigners being arrested.

CallmeKaren · 04/04/2019 18:43

Google the laws yourself.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/04/2019 18:44

You’ll be fine, but your reasons for worrying are exactly why I wouldn’t go there and support such a country

Joebloggswazere · 04/04/2019 18:44

I would take him seriously and rein yourself in.

titchy · 04/04/2019 18:45

Surely you can keep your hands off him for a few days while your outside Confused And only drink in your hotel.

cabcab · 04/04/2019 18:45

Better safe than sorry....just be careful!

willyougobacktobed · 04/04/2019 18:46

What attitude @CallmeKaren? To want to be affectionate to my husband?

OP posts:
MrsPear · 04/04/2019 18:46

If you can’t behave like adults and respect the laws, culture and customs of the foreign country you are visiting then may I suggest a weekend in Blighty?!

Are Laura Plummer by any chance?!

ShesABelter · 04/04/2019 18:46

@CallmeKaren is there a reason you are being so rude?

Xyzzzzz · 04/04/2019 18:46

I think the resorts are fine and bit more lenient. But I would rein it in anyway cause I’m a guest in a country where it’s not the cultural norm and I’d respect that.

CatGoals · 04/04/2019 18:46

I wouldn’t go to Dubai for their horrendous attitude to the trafficking of the construction workers and because of their shitty human and women’s rights.

willyougobacktobed · 04/04/2019 18:47

@RhiWrites tbh I didn't know the extent of the rules before we looked into it deeply. I feel comfortable that we will be aware of what is acceptable though

OP posts:
Reddragonqueen · 04/04/2019 18:47

I really can't see what attracts people to dubai

caughtinanet · 04/04/2019 18:47

I woud be wary about going there, I know you can't believe everything you read but I've seen several times that visitors have been arrested

ILoveMaxiBondi · 04/04/2019 18:48

It’s a realistic possibility. Don’t assume it won’t happen to you.

willyougobacktobed · 04/04/2019 18:48

To be clear we have made sure we know the laws inside out and are planning on being completely cautious and respectful.

What CatGoals said. Strange choice for a holiday destination. But if you must go, don't "have a giggle" – whatever that means in this context? – while drunk, seems fairly simple.

perroy · 04/04/2019 18:48

Haha, they dont call it affection though. If you are going be sensible go better still do not go.

BorsetshireBlew · 04/04/2019 18:49

Well yeah! Why would anyone go to Dubai if they think they are at risk of breaking the laws?

Drogosnextwife · 04/04/2019 18:50

Well I'm sure you can keep your hands off each other for a bit while you are out of your hotel?

notacooldad · 04/04/2019 18:51

To want to be affectionate to my husband?

Maybe Dubai isn't the ideal holiday destination for you.

Jsmith99 · 04/04/2019 18:54

The UAE is a conservative Muslim society ruled by a group of absolute monarchies. It is not a secular, liberal Western democracy and it does not pretend to be.

If you choose to travel there, you need to understand that and you need to inform yoursabout the UAE’s laws and comply with them.
