DH thinks we're going to get arrested in Dubai

Going to Dubai next week for Easter on a mini break with DH. As a tactile couple who enjoys a couple of drinks with dinner he's getting really anxious that we're going to get arrested if we a) unthinkingly give each other a peck on the cheek or b) share a bottle of wine and have a giggle.

He has googled their strict laws and legal systems LOTS.

I think he's BU, his worries and mithering are making me not look as forward to a holiday I've saved hard for as much as I otherwise would.

Are we going to get arrested?!

With the greatest respect, your friends in the UK who give you a limited insight, do not speak for all Muslims. Breeze is soeaking openly and fairly about the situation from a world perspective. I am curious about circumcision, is it only Islamic ones we object to? Other cuktuers are just as, if not more prescriptive. Also women may not wear scarves, but may not drive, work and cover hair with wigs across the UK and also have segregated schools. Are we talking about human rights across the board and if so, can we offer a more balanced view of rights rather than this?

Jasmine .. why do you say my friends in the uk... I haven’t mentioned where they or I have lived/visited ... for the record .. most were not brought up in the UK... I think they are a good cross section but. I’m aware I haven’t meant all types from all walks of life or from every nation ...

Is there anyone who can speak for all Muslims? Or all Christians? Or all Jews?

Jasmineallenestate · 10/04/2019 19:34

It is fairly clear by your posting that it is a narrow view

Chickenblc · 16/04/2019 14:17

@Breeze44 What do you think about the recent changes to the law in Brunei?

Jasmineallenestate · 16/04/2019 15:25

Yaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnn

Chickenblc · 16/04/2019 15:37

Thanks you for that extremely relevant contribution.

Bloody hell. Pot calling the kettle black. Of all the most stupid, irrelevant and intelligently lazy things to jump on. Take a look at a world map with legalised homosexuality marked. If you give a shit, there are many very poor and scary places you can go amd volunteer

Windowsareforcheaters · 16/04/2019 15:54

That's right there are very many places.

And this thread is about Dubai and the gulf states.

If you have separate names, take a copy of your marriage certificate to prove you are married. It's unlikely, but possible the hotel could report you otherwise!

Don't get drunk.

Don't be a lout.

Don't take any opioid/codeine type painkillers (eg Nurofen Plus) - up to four years in jail, I think.

Chickenblc · 16/04/2019 20:48

Yes there are a lot of places where homosexuality illegal. Such as Dubai and Brunei.

MaryPopppins · 16/04/2019 20:52

Even on honeymoon I was capable of sitting next to my husband while having a drink and it not becoming a PDA......and that wasn't in a Muslim country.

I must be doing marriage wrong?

If you can't drinking without groping each other then just drink in your hotel room.

Confused I thought this was about Dubai though.

Jasmine everyone’s view including yours will be made based on ... as you put it their narrow view... the point of any discussion is to air insights based on what knowledge and insight one has... don’t be so dismissive... but maybe you like the fact that some cultures only seem able to survive because they stifle individual freedom ,choice and opportunity to express a personal view point... you can’t have it both ways ... people are free or they are not ... and any where in the world that harms or abuses people in the name of any religious doctrine or political postering is rightly challenged by sane caring people
