To think that my otherwise healthy 39 yo DB shouldn’t be trying not to die from sepsis?

Just that really. Best part of a week spent in ICU, where I’ve been staying o/night with DSiL as she is still bf their 7 month old. Now I’m home and I have time to think, and I think it is all a bit shit. I thought I should come home and see my DC and DH but I’m going to end up more emotional-wreck than rested. How on earth do I support my DM and DF as their beautiful son lies day after day, just-about-not-dying? How on earth can I hold space for my wonderful, brave DSiL and their two DC when I just want to shout and scream at him to stop being such a pillock and get the feck better?

I'm up op and here for a hand hold too.
He has fought so hard this is just shitty news. Hope he picks up again, after all, he is a fighter.

Please try and be calm, easier said than done I know. Presuming you're heading over as soon as able to? Hugs to you.

Oh OP Flowers

I have lurked on this thread a bit on nights, and was hoping that your DB had turned a corner.
You must be devastated at the update, but hope you get some more news soon.

(hope you had the nice whisky...)

doesthatmakesense · 11/04/2019 08:24

He made it through the night, stabilised with transfusion and some no support meds, but CT scan didn’t show any bleeding so cause unknown.

We are on half term at the moment and had planned to take DC on outing to big history attraction at Hospital Town, hopefully will see DB and or his medical team later.

P.s. herbal tea won, for which my head is grateful today! Brew

My dad had blood transfusion issues during sepsis. The drs were convinced there was a bleed, but there wasnt. He didnt get better for weeks. He was up one minute and down the next. They discovered he has Chronic Lymphatic Lukemia whilst running the tests. It is not curable, but life expectancy can be 25 years or more if you keep healthy. My dad developed sepsis from pneumonia, but it was diagnosed late which is why it took so long to recover from. At one point, in the HDU, his nurse threw a strop (in a sweet way) because his temperature wouldnt come down. She said to my dad 'oh for heavens sake! I've given you everything and your bloody temperature just wont budge, can you please just help me and get better!' Poor thing was almost in tears because they couldnt seem to get any of the symptoms under control despite throwing everything and the kitchen sink at him. They were all exasperated Then he rallied. Then he dipped again. Then he rallied. Then they found cancer. It is a rollercoaster nightmare. My dad had it in August and said last week that he was just starting to feel normal. A month ago my 2 year old dd developed sepsis from tonsilitis. She was diagnosed really quickly and on iv antibiotics within 2 hours of the rash developing. She is still recovering though and gets tired easily. I hope your db gets better soon. X

doesthatmakesense · 11/04/2019 20:59

funny you should say that re. temp as db’s is still a bit high... he was more awake today and actually asked for me to be there when dr came to explain where they were up to- that’s quite a big thing, as mostly my dfamily delight in treating me like a hypersensitive brainiac. Finally though, the brainiacishness has come in handy. Hoping we all get a bit more sleep tonight. Will update over the weekend, but no news will be good news. Flowers

Will keep everything crossed for you OP. I lost my brother 5 hrs ago and it is a horrible thing to go through. My grandmother is currently in hospital with pneumonia and sepsis, admitted today and waiting to hear where we are with things before deciding whether to go tonight or tomorrow. Thinking of you OP X

doesthatmakesense · 11/04/2019 21:14
