Leave or remain, I think it’s about time this idea was taken seriously. See Petition below:

The changes were not 'sneaked' in hidden from the public. Thatcher negotiated the SEA with full and open public scrutiny. Maastricht, was debated widely. These issues were common knowledge. They were in manifestos.

Blair promised multiple referendums, the closer integration has been sneaked in in some regards, you are trying to whitewash history as to why the referendum even come about.

Bornfreebutinchains · 29/03/2019 20:23

Apparently democracy changes on an hour by hour basis according to someone on RT.
Are we going to usher a new voting era in, whereby we vote via our phones minute by minute on everything.

Bornfreebutinchains · 29/03/2019 20:25

Tony Blair utterly lied and gas lighted the population on so many issue's.

Books written about him and his strategy, whistle blowers... it's all out in public domain!!

His plan was supress supress supress.

meltdownhp · 29/03/2019 20:25

I don’t understand why they can’t make voting compulsory even if just on one occasion and hold a second referendum
To get a proper result

meltdownhp · 29/03/2019 20:26

I voted leave and Ive definitely changed my mind

Langrish · 29/03/2019 20:27

Born free:

"If a democracy cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy."

David Davis, 2012

StealthPolarBear · 29/03/2019 20:29

Bornfreebutinchains that's a really interesting idea, I'm seeing it as giant word clouds with various things popping up and down, strands breaking off and eventually tailing off or leading into something new. Wow.

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/03/2019 20:29

@BoneyBackJefferson

I'm being goady? That is your classic rejoinder isn't it?

My point about the EU and the EEC was not specific enough, because you need every evolution spelling out in detail. I must admit I assume some level of awareness and political acuity from readers on MN, I am obviously wrong and I apologise for any confusion caused. If I confuse you again please let me know.

I am not on the same side a Yaxley-Lennon. Guilt by association indeed. If you offer, hope, succour or comfort to this man then you share his shame. Yes I am intending to goad you into a response about this man because you are twisting and turning and trying desperately not to respond.

David Duke has no vote in the U.K. as far as I am aware.

Yet again I have responded to your points specifically and in detail. I have apologised for confusing you.

So leavers Yaxley-Lennon yes or no?

StealthPolarBear · 29/03/2019 20:30

If voting came with a free lunch everyone where I work would do it ;)
In fairness I suspect we do anyway.

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/03/2019 20:31

Blair promised multiple referendums

SEA and Maastricht- major treaties negotiated by tories voted on and passed by Parliament. This point is irrelevant.

Justanotherlurker · 29/03/2019 20:33

I don’t understand why they can’t make voting compulsory even if just on one occasion and hold a second referendum

Would require ID cards or something similar.

As we are in the peak of IDPOL it's a no no.

Bornfreebutinchains · 29/03/2019 20:33

Langish. Absolutely.

But what time scales do we observe between referender?

Shall we do one every 4o years if the appetite is there or every two years?

TheGardenFairy · 29/03/2019 20:34

Never have I read so much self indulged shit - and falsehoods about Brexit, from remainers until MN.

Other websites have a much more balanced view.

TM joined the DUP party unnecessarily..... Tommy Robinson is somehow joined to the EEC..... Everyone voted to join the EU....The UK is going to crash if we Brexit without a deal.... TM is a staunch Brexiter….Jeremy Corbyn is to be admired.... All people who voted leave are racist......Just WOW!

Hopefully there will be a massive shake up of both main parties before a GE. As it stands neither party deserve votes.

As it stands if TM is leading the Tories and JC is leading Labour at a snap GE I will have to vote for TM. No contest!

Justanotherlurker · 29/03/2019 20:36

SEA and Maastricht- major treaties negotiated by tories voted on and passed by Parliament. This point is irrelevant.

The fact you are still trying to highlight tories and ignoring the overall narrative shows how you are trying to frame this, still, if you're happy being on the same side as Stormfront and David Duke then so be it.

Bornfreebutinchains · 29/03/2019 20:39

I think the news has been giving a good represented view today actually. .
They have been in parliament Square interviewing a range of people from Young, old, black white, people chanting...." Children of immigrants we are not racist" Etc. .
Everyone has sounded very reasonable and balanced.

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/03/2019 20:42

I'm highlighting that the two major EU deals were negotiated by tories. I supported both pieces of legislation. Think JM did an impressive piece of work negotiating and getting Maastricht through Parliament.

Is that impartial enough for you?

Please explain the overall narrative I have missed. I have seen important legislation negotiated, debated and passed in full view of the the public.

Langrish · 29/03/2019 20:45

Bornfree:

Referenda timescale? Never, if it were up to me! This should never have happened. The general public is not sufficiently knowledgeable to make such decisions.
That’s not to say they’re stupid, but they’re not experts in the machinations of the EU. It’s a question that should never have been put to them in the first place.
But, since you’re asking, now, I think, would be a pretty damned good time, before we unwittingly plunge headlong into the disaster that the darling of the ERG says may take 50 years to recover from and reap any benefits. Not him, personally, obviously ....

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/03/2019 20:50

Officers were pictured in a stand-off with Tommy Robinson supporters who chanted "oh Tommy, Tommy, Tommy Robinson"

From the Evening Standard.

Glad they are not doing this in my name.

Justanotherlurker · 29/03/2019 20:51

I'm highlighting that the two major EU deals were negotiated by tories

And ignore the 13 years of labour unless you count them as tories,

Is that impartial enough for you?

No, it was you who brought up the childish argument that is guilt by association, I was pointing out the flaw in your argument since stormfront openly backed Corbyn in the last election.

Trying to pin this down on party political lines is why it's a shit show , we are in a situation where supposedly life long left leaning people are championing Multinational businesses and the EU neoliberal narrative, the fact that you are trying the guilt by association route highlights the revisionism and how it can quickly fall down.

You still haven't answered why you support someone that Stormfront and david duke support though.

CatsinSpace · 29/03/2019 20:56

I've missed all the news. Was there any trouble or arrests at the leavers demo today?

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/03/2019 20:59

Backing Corbyn? Nope not me.

I wholeheartedly condemn the implicit support the Labour Party is giving to anti semitism. Not in my name.

The Labour Party should be ashamed of its actions. Is that clear enough for you? No anti semitism in my name.

I will not support racism in any way, shape or form overtly or through association. Not in my name.

Guilt by association? If by your actions or inactions you give support, succour or comfort to racists then you share some of the responsibility.

So leavers Yaxley-Lennon yes or no?

TheGardenFairy · 29/03/2019 21:07

I've missed all the news. Was there any trouble or arrests at the leavers demo today?

For all the remainers anticipation and anxieties that "leavers will cause major disruption and riots".....No there has been no trouble reported.....

Just a peaceful protest alongside those who think A50 can somehow just happen.

TheGardenFairy · 29/03/2019 21:08
  • revoking A50.....
CatsinSpace · 29/03/2019 21:11

GardenFairy

That's good. I know people were expecting lots of trouble so I'm glad none materialised.

FlippinNora1 · 29/03/2019 21:18

I will not support racism in any way, shape or form overtly or through association. Not in my name

You might not want to be voting Tory either then if Gove gets the PM job.

Why is there no one with any clout who also has good principles and morals in politics? And who actuallly cares about the good of the country, rather than their own careers and bank accounts. It’s too depressing.
