I had to go out this afternoon. Before I went I said to DP that I would let him know when I was on the way home so that he could have a coffee ready for me. I called to let him know I'd be about ten minutes, thinking that he'd make it then so it would have cooled down a bit.

As I walked in he handed me the coffee straight away and, as I walked in I took a mouthful only to find it was scalding hot and I burned my mouth! I have reduced sensation in my hands and so I couldn't really tell from that. He'd literally just reboiled the kettle so it was super hot.

The thing that really annoyed me most was that he couldn't even say sorry and started accusing me of slamming doors instead. He made the mistake of reboiling the kettle but he can never accept any part of the blame for anything! AIBU?

You need someone to tell you a coffee is hot?!

And you really phone ahead to have a coffee waiting for you?

Justmuddlingalong · 11/03/2019 15:57

He made you a cuppa, as you appear to have instructed him. Surely the responsibility of checking the temperature before drinking it, is yours.

LemonBreeland · 11/03/2019 15:57

Why would you not assume a freshly made coffee was hot? He did you a favour making you one. YABU, you owe him an apology.

formerbabe · 11/03/2019 15:57

Sorry yabu... surely, you take a small sip when you get given a hot drink to gauge the temperature?

Darkbaptism · 11/03/2019 15:58

You should check yourself.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 11/03/2019 15:58

Really?! Of course it's not your dh's fault that you didn't check how hot your drink was before drinking it. I hope next time you ask him for a drink he tells you to do one!

10IAR · 11/03/2019 15:58

You called ahead to have him make a coffee, which he did, and then got pissed off because it was hot?

Not a chance this is real surely?

GruciusMalfoy · 11/03/2019 15:58

Are you not able to check it yourself? YABU.

raviolidreaming · 11/03/2019 15:59

This has to be a wind up. Or a reverse.

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 11/03/2019 15:59

Yabu....

Spam88 · 11/03/2019 15:59

Surely he didn't make a mistake reboiling the kettle, he did it intentionally so you'd have a hot coffee rather than one that had been going cold for 10 minutes..?

YADBU here OP. Not taking a cautious sip of a drink first to check how hot it is is just silly.

CluedoAddict · 11/03/2019 16:00

So you demanded he make you a coffee and then you blame him for your mistake of not thinking it would be hot.

Ohtherewearethen · 11/03/2019 16:00

Oh my God. You phoned your husband and told him to make you a coffee and then told him off because it was fresh and hot? Wow. Your poor husband. You sound very high maintenance and actually not very nice. You have been completely unreasonable. And you need lessons in hot drink safety by the sounds of it. Well done for making it through life this far.

FooFighter99 · 11/03/2019 16:00

You should have checked, but if it was me i'd have warned you - "careful, it's red hot"

YA both BU

WindyScales · 11/03/2019 16:00

What?! This is bizarre Hmm

MummyStruggles · 11/03/2019 16:00

Is this a joke?

TheInvestigator · 11/03/2019 16:00

If someone left my coffee sitting for 10 minutes before giving it to me id be pretty pissed off at having a lukewarm drink.
But it's pretty cheeky to send a text and expect someone to have a coffee waiting for you. I can't believe he did as he was told, yet you're still complaining.

Hot drink means you take a sip and test yourself.

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2019 16:00

Coffee is hot shocker. Grin

MollysLips · 11/03/2019 16:00

So next time you instruct him to make you a coffee exactly 5.9 minutes ahead of your expected arrival time in order to allow the coffee to reach a perfect 76 degrees.

Or, you know, get over yourself?

HarrysOwl · 11/03/2019 16:01

Oh, OP.

he couldn't even say sorry

He's got nothing to apologise for! Your poor DP, you ask him to make you a coffee, he does, you burn yourself because he couldn't read your mind that you assumed it was drinkable, and you blame him?

Go and apologise to him pronto!

FoxSquadKitten · 11/03/2019 16:01

You call your 'order' in ahead of getting home? Blimey.
Yanbu, how dare he make it hot and not leave it lying around to become tepid? Ltb 🤣

Geminijes · 11/03/2019 16:01

He did something nice for you but because you found the coffee too hot, you had a go at him and expect him to apologise to you?
Think you are the one that needs to apologise.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 11/03/2019 16:02

Now I understand why McDonald's & similar places have warnings that their hot drinks maybe hot Confused

daisyjgrey · 11/03/2019 16:02

You are being absurd.

CabbageHippy · 11/03/2019 16:03

would you like him to piss it out for you as well & then have a go at him for using loo roll?
