To think if this T shirt were the other way round, we’d never hear the end of it

Spotted by someone over 6 foot at a women’s day march.

If it said “kill all trans women” the wearer would (rightly) be arrested for inciting violence, but I have seen women defending their right to wear it because they were “driven to it”.

Like men are driven to kill women all the time.

Oh and HermioneWeasley YANBU, of course. This may not have been in the UK but I’m sure a TRA could wear that T shirt with impunity here. Be celebrated for it, even.

What about if a woman wore a T shirt with, for example, “Kill the transgender” on it though?

Would the same people justifying the T shirt in the picture be so quick to state that the slogan related only to transgenderist ideology, or would they assume a literal threat to trans people?

I don’t think any decent person would want to leave that open to misinterpretation, would they? In either case. Which is why, even though I loathe transgenderist ideology as much as I loathe every other form of male oppression of females, it wouldn’t even enter my head to wear a T shirt wishing for its demise, knowing it could be construed as a call to literal violence.

This person though has no such scruples. This person is proud of being threatening.

AutumnCrow · 10/03/2019 16:39

That teeshirt is promoting violence against women in my view.

TalkingintheDark · 10/03/2019 16:40

Thanks Jane and yes, I knew exactly what you meant of course, Mummy, I was just trying to read it through the eyes of someone new to all this and getting the wrong end of the stick altogether.

As it were.

buzzbobbly · 10/03/2019 16:40

Perhaps we should alert West Yorkshire Police to it. They seem to have plenty of time on their hands and a penchant for travelling out of area lately.

TalkingintheDark · 10/03/2019 16:51

They’d be on it if it were a woman wearing a “Kill the transgender” T shirt, for sure, buzzbobbly. They’d have her in irons before you could say Jack Robinson.

Arrested in front of her kids, separated from them for the best part of a day, denied necessary sanitary protection, charged with god knows what.

If it can happen, as it has done, over “deadnaming” and “misgendering” on Twitter, imagine what they’d do over something perceived as an actual death threat!

(Sidenote: it actually makes me feel really icky even writing the words “Kill” anybody, because it’s so, so wrong in my book to even think like that. And yet for these people with their “Kill TERFs, die cis scum, kill the TERF, DIAF TERF” etc, it seems to be as easy as breathing. I wonder why that is?)

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/03/2019 17:06

I wonder if there are any people who identify as broccoli.
Wouldn't that be a transplant?

CrimpMyArse · 10/03/2019 17:08

Has any one at all got any form of provenance for this photo being real, of a t shirt worn at a women’s march by a six foot plus person or even existing in the first place?

None so far.

So right now it this looks a lot like a deliberately inflammatory shit stirring post to try, yet again, to bring the feminist board’s preoccupation with “debating” trans issues onto Aibu.

Fact checking, knowing when you are being manipulated, etc etc. I’m sure the OP is in good faith, but there seems to be a void of non news behind this image.

T-shirts saying kill the anything isn’t ok (except maybe the patriarchy) but that’s not really what this aibu is about.

It seems intended to whip up a bit of outrage and give an excuse to roll out the prevailing GC views and hit list of anti self ID rhetoric onto AIBU.

Just my POV.

Can you explain how you think a man changes into a woman? Or can you let me know when you posted your scientific explanation of how this happens, as I went out this afternoon and might have missed it...

JaneJeffer · 10/03/2019 17:23

Wouldn't that be a transplant? Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 10/03/2019 18:02

crimp

You seem weirdly fixed on the gender identity of the person wearing the t shirt

I dont give a shit whether they are cis, trans, male, female, non binary

Its a dreadful t shirt

EyesAreNeverClosing · 10/03/2019 18:06

I’m sure the OP is in good faith,

I'm not. I think the rest of your post was spot on though.

I think there are many discussions that need to be had around self ID, prisons, refuges, women's spaces in general but when this kind of thread ends up in the usual nastiness, it detracts from the issue. It makes me just think I can't be bothered entering into discussion or supporting any possibly valid parts of their argument.

TowelNumber42 · 10/03/2019 18:11

Where is the photo from Hermione? Google reverse image search brings back nothing to show where it originated.

McTufty · 10/03/2019 18:19

I don’t really agree crimpmyarse

If you think it’s a photo shop, ask Shona Craven who claims she took the photo in Argentina last Friday. I’m not sure why you would doubt it if you have any appreciation at all of how common similar t-shirts etc are.

The normalisation of violence and threats towards gender critical women is an absolutely major issue and I’m sorry you don’t seem to think so, seemingly preferring the view we should shut up about it in case it gets discussed in the wider context of self ID.

McTufty · 10/03/2019 18:19

Search for Shona Craven on Twitter towel

McTufty · 10/03/2019 18:22

She wasn’t the only one that saw it - someone here saw it and approved.

There’s probably a “void” because it’s not news - happens all the bloody time, but we are the nasty ones for talking about it.

To think if this T shirt were the other way round, we’d never hear the end of it

Their argument? What nastiness?

I found that post about vagina cup cakes. As this is a thread about the bonkers male centring of International WOMEN's Day.

Women - do better. Centre the penis.

EyesAreNeverClosing · 10/03/2019 18:41

What nastiness?

Read it back, without bias. You probably can't but if you could you would see it. Even if I could be arsed to go back and quote everyone, if you don't want to see it, you won't.

T-shirt saying 'kill women' = not nasty

Women saying 'that's hate speech ' = nasty.

What a topsy turvy world some people live in.

McTufty · 10/03/2019 18:52

Was telling a poster she typed “like she’s had a stroke” not nasty, or nasty but ok because it was written by someone on your side?

OwlBeThere · 10/03/2019 18:54

The T-shirt is wrong. The transphobia on display on mumsnet is wrong. I think everyone on either side being so hateful needs to grow up frankly.

sackrifice · 10/03/2019 18:58

Whose side are you talking about?

The bit about like she has had a stroke is also someone who is very much full of hatred of 'trans-exclusionary-radical-unfeminist circle-jerk's.

sackrifice · 10/03/2019 18:59

It is not transphobic to point out that killing women is wrong.

McTufty · 10/03/2019 19:00

Sorry sakrifice I was talking to eyesareneverclosing

sackrifice · 10/03/2019 19:02

I was gonna say like; it's the only nastiness I've seen on this thread!
