I was using my hair straighteners today, and realised that it's been 15 years since I purchased them. They are GHDs and I bought them in 2004. Used almost daily and they were £100. At the time I thought this was quite expensive. But working out cost per usage it's pretty amazing! They're still going strong.

What was the best money you ever spent on something and why?

I asked a friend, and she said it was the registration fee on a dating site, as she is now married with 2 children Smile

An extra night at a hostel on my gap year. It was a beautiful place. Met my now-husband the next day.

OhTheRoses · 09/03/2019 17:06

It wasn't actually my money but the set of stainless steel saucepans bought as a wedding present 28 years ago.

My orthotic inserts.

reup · 09/03/2019 17:12

Buying my dog- he makes me smile every day.

Passthecake30 · 09/03/2019 17:12

My parlux hairdryer, about 25 years old now.

Also orthotic inserts, worked wonders for my back pain, cost about £200 about 20 years ago.

Didrikson coats, about £150-£200 each, I've had them for about 8 years, they fit great on my 6ft frame.

My pineapple corer. Makes me feel smug everytime I use it.
Also my insulated cafetière- the pleasure of coming back and finding there's another hot coffee ready a couple of hours after you had the first is wonderful Grin

Madbengalmum · 09/03/2019 17:13

My dyson!

The room on the private postnatal ward after the birth of DC2. Turned what was a godawful time after the birth of DC1 into a lovely little babymoon.

Alarae · 09/03/2019 17:18

Holiday to Canada with all the classic winter excursions.

The memories are worth it.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 09/03/2019 17:19

My ghds are a similar age! I have a food processor that’s 17 and an electric hand whisk (kenwood) that’s the same age.

Rixera · 09/03/2019 17:21

Really, really nice wardrobe. Makes me happy every morning when I fetch my socks. I pull them on and admire the wardrobe, bonus happiness if I need to fetch a jumper later on :')

EggplantVestibule · 09/03/2019 17:22

My piano. It's was only a cheap one, but it opened up a love of music and a hobby that has seen me through so much!

teyem · 09/03/2019 17:22

A robot hoover, it feels like cheating in a good way. Grin

DingDongDenny · 09/03/2019 17:22

My 2 cats - they are worth every penny

aimingforthesky · 09/03/2019 17:22

Bean to cup coffee maker. Proper coffee in travel mug to sip on the way to work makes the whole day better and at weekends the frothy milk for cappuccinos feels like luxury!

Alsohuman · 09/03/2019 17:23

Eye surgery, the joy of being able to see properly is immeasurable.

ginyogarepeat · 09/03/2019 17:24

My son ❤️ very expensive fertility treatment but worth it times a million! (I don't consider him a purchase btw but he did cost a lot!)

Theunreasonableone · 09/03/2019 17:24

£100 on a private consultation for fertility treatment. The doctor gave us a 6 month course of Clomid that day. DD1 came along eighteen months later and DD2 two years later.

hennaoj · 09/03/2019 17:25

My 1st car, imported MX5 mk 1. I'd still have it now if some idiot company car driver hadn't run into the back of it and wrote it off. Insurance company wouldn't let me buy it back and it's still on the road 15 years later. I'm still annoyed as I can't track down the current owner.

Starfish28 · 09/03/2019 17:25

My lovely mattress. Sorted out my back pain overnight. Also had a similar experience with GHD until one day they blow up and burnt my hair.
