I was using my hair straighteners today, and realised that it's been 15 years since I purchased them. They are GHDs and I bought them in 2004. Used almost daily and they were £100. At the time I thought this was quite expensive. But working out cost per usage it's pretty amazing! They're still going strong.

What was the best money you ever spent on something and why?

I asked a friend, and she said it was the registration fee on a dating site, as she is now married with 2 children Smile

Business class return flights to Australia. It was a once in a lifetime/bucket list spend but was worth every penny.
I’m currently taking steps to reduce the stress in my life but even small steps like a hand held hoover, folded laundry basket are worth the money I’m spending on them.

Eyelash extensions. It sounds weird, but I love the way they make my face look.

Foslady · 09/03/2019 17:43

Either once in a lifetime trip to Florida with just me and dd when she was 9, or my subscription to Match - met dp, never thought I could be loved like I am orvthat I’d ever trust another man again

An upgrade for my parents when they went on holiday. They've done so much for me over the years, it makes me so happy to do thing for them.

Personally, my beautiful dog, GHD's and hungarian goose down duvets.

YouWinAgain · 09/03/2019 17:44

My walking boots.

I clock up about 15,000 steps a day as although I can drive I share a car with my mum.

They're warm comfortable and support my dodgey ankles.

Best £40 I ever spent.

Campervan! On our second one now. I feel myself relax the moment I get in it, also the bedroom action is much better than at home!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 09/03/2019 17:47

I’ve had my GHDs more years than I can remember.
My Audi TTS were high on the list, until they became impractical.
Bamboo socks
My current pair of slippers. Inexpensive, but cosy.
Bean to cup machine

NewYoiker · 09/03/2019 17:49

@Starfish28 which mattress? I need a new one

Illuminore · 09/03/2019 17:52

Torn between my Filofax, my GHDs (13 years old and still going strong) and my divorce. Wink

HandbagCrazy · 09/03/2019 17:52

Money spent ticking an American road trip off my bucket list (started with Christmas in NYC and includes a lot of states I wanted to see).

Hopefully (🤞) the trip we have planned this summer which is another bucket list tick.

After that, DDog 1&2.

For the house - the bed & mattress. Sorted my sleep out.

Best money spent on someone else - a ticket to a charity dinner so DH could meet a rugby idol or west end tickets for MIL to watch something she'd always wanted to see.

Tiptoetiptoetiptoe · 09/03/2019 17:52

My bed. It cost £2500 from M&S buts it’s beautiful and like sleeping in a cloud.

A close second and third are my cordless dyson as it saves loads of effort, and our condenser dryer as it makes my towels so fluffy.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/03/2019 17:52

My mattress. I spend a lot of time in bed due to ill health.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/03/2019 17:53

My cats. They've bought me so much joy. (And enormous vets bills)
My car!

£5 15 years ago when I did online dating, putting a profile on was free but I had to pay to see messages.
I was skint (single mum just getting over life changing surgery) but I paid my fiver

15 years later I am still with the message sender. Married for ten of those years.

He still owes me a fiver

Paying for a konmari consultant to come around yesterday. She was here 5 hours and I literally cried with happiness at what we achieved.

Geekster1963 · 09/03/2019 17:56

Oh and my prescription pre payments certificate. Saved me a fortune

DarlingNikita · 09/03/2019 17:56

ILoveBray, it would!

Jsmith99 · 09/03/2019 17:56

Our cheap, basic, British made Hotpoint washing machine. Bought in 1999 and still going strong. It has had new bushes and a new door catch, but is otherwise original.

QuestionableMouse · 09/03/2019 17:58

My new bedroom ( recently redecorated completely including a new bed and carpet) it makes me so happy and I'm sleeping much better.

My cat. She brings me joy every day.

My mugs. I have a few lovely big Whittards ones that no one else uses.

My car. Went from a small hatchback to a seven seater and it has made me a much more confident driver. It has a bigger engine so pulling out onto the motorway isn't a horrible experience any more.

soberfabulous · 09/03/2019 18:01

My veneers. Still look amazing after 15 days and my life changed so much the day I had them done.

My daughter. I live in a country with no NHS and had to pay for her birth myself. Eye watering lot expensive but worth every penny.
