I was using my hair straighteners today, and realised that it's been 15 years since I purchased them. They are GHDs and I bought them in 2004. Used almost daily and they were £100. At the time I thought this was quite expensive. But working out cost per usage it's pretty amazing! They're still going strong.

What was the best money you ever spent on something and why?

I asked a friend, and she said it was the registration fee on a dating site, as she is now married with 2 children Smile

Ooh my dog too. He was a rescue from Romania and he's cost me a fortune but he's so worth it.

I think the other non living thing would be my wood burning stove. It makes the house so cosy!

I spent a lot travelling the world in my 20s, it was worth every penny.

After that, my kitchen. I had it installed 8 years ago and it still makes me happy every day.

£2.80 on a wreath hanger from amazon last Christmas. If only I’d known years ago...all that faffing, tape and string...

My Kindle Paperwhite.

I read in bed every evening.

Prescription polarised sunglasses. I'm quite sensitive to daylight which sometimes induces migranes so I wear them almost all year round outdoors. Fantastic protection from the wind also. I will now always pay extra for polarised lenses when I need a new prescription.

Yes! Got one in Wilkos last year - game changer.

Another vote for GHDs mine are about 10 years old and still going strong.

Our current house - upped the budget but we bloody love it and I feel happy knowing we won't outgrow it

£350 on a sleep and behaviour consultant for my DD who was 1 at the time. I agonised over spending the money but it saved my mental health. She was the most miserable baby who breastfed every 40 minutes day and night, cried constantly and clung to me and just wouldn't accept being passed to any other adult at all. I was in a very dark place before we did it and it really did save me. Probably sounds ridiculous to others but my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!

I’ve also got ghd straighteners and mine must be the same age as yours, I remember thinking at the time it was a lot of money but they’re still going strong.

I’ve probably jinxed it now.

HarrysOwl · 09/03/2019 17:36

@Easterbunnyiscomingsoon me too RE braces! I'm 18 months in (6 left to go) and it's so worth the money & discomfort.

Nanalisa60 · 09/03/2019 17:36

Duck down pillows and duck down super king quilt. A good night sleep is worth every penny!!

MissBPotter · 09/03/2019 17:36

Paying for packing when we moved house last time (with two dc under 3).

Otherwise, holidays probably!

thecatneuterer · 09/03/2019 17:37

My dustpan and brush. Brushed stainless steel and 'designery' from Aero (if anyone remembers them). They look beautiful when just lying around, and they function better than any other dustpan and brush ever made! They cost £30 some 20 years ago, but are as good now as the day I bought them. I tempted to post a photo but that would probably be a bit sad.

PurplePink19 · 09/03/2019 17:37

I've had to replace the cord once and glue the plates back in too, but even then £100 over 15 years is great.

I think everytime I use them, it's the last time Grin
