Grey decor

AIBU to hope this trend dies a death soon?

I'm house hunting at the moment and every other house is grey. Grey walls, grey kitchens, grey bathrooms.... bloody depressing.

Can someone please tell me it's starting to go out of fashion? It's the avocado bathroom suite for our times...

I like grey. Liked it before it was fashionable, still like it. I actually prefer cold colours. I really dislike magnolia or anything greeny-yellowy - it looks kind of sallow. White, grey, blue, stony beige are much fresher and less... sickly imo.

Crinkle77 · 09/03/2019 14:55

I keep seeing a lot of grey crushed velvet. It's awful.

Purplecatshopaholic · 09/03/2019 14:58

Blame that Kelly Hoppen (spelling?) woman, lol. I love colour in my house, I have colour in most rooms (I am not moving) - grey does not feature. Each to their own I guess. My first house did have an avocado bathroom, lol

Minkies11 · 09/03/2019 15:00

I love grey in my house! It was red and black before and absolutely vile. I have warm greys, fawn and mushroom throughout but with bright splashes of chartreuse gold and green and warm oak furniture. It's bright and warm. Think steely greys are quite cold so don't have them. Sorry - love grey here Blush

HotChocolateLover · 09/03/2019 15:02

I happen to like it. We have cream tiles to go with our lovely new kitchen and grey seemed to be the right choice. What I bloody hate that the previous owners have left us with is this naff ‘fake brick’ feature wallpaper on three of the walls in the living room. Bloody hate it and it gives me the rage when I look at it. Will change it when I can afford it.

Anon10 · 09/03/2019 15:09

OP you are showing your age here I think! Magnolia is revolting beyond belief. The colour of nursing homes. Ditto cream.

Peridot1 · 09/03/2019 15:11

I like grey but don’t have it everywhere. Grey painted kitchen and walls in dining and sitting areas are grey - two shades. But it’s been done for 8 years. Lots of other colour through furnishings curtains etc. I don’t like matchy matchy decor.

Strugglingtodomybest · 09/03/2019 15:21

I don't mind a bit of grey if it's done well, but Mrs Hinch's isn't imo.

My mum has done her bathroom grey and with not much natural light, I find it depressing. Mine is turquoise and white and although is probably very dated, it always cheers me up.

Mrsmadevans · 09/03/2019 15:25

Thank you Sparklingbrook Smile must go and look at her house .
I am afraid we are extremely boring here , Magnolia emulsion and a bit of white gloss on the woodwork .

Huntawaymama · 09/03/2019 15:26

Yanbu. I want to redecorate our living room and need inspiration. I just see grey everywhere and it's so dull I refuse to have grey anywhere.

Can't thunk how many times I've seen grey with mustard accessories and then the owner talks about originality 🙄

Huntawaymama · 09/03/2019 15:27

*think not thunk

Purplecatshopaholic · 09/03/2019 15:29

The great thing about decor is doing what you want in your own place. My main bathroom is terracotta and orange and I love it (others wouldn't, and I don't care!) My ensuite is turquoise and white - again, not for everyone but I love it.

SrSteveOskowski · 09/03/2019 15:31

Mrs Hinch's house looks like someone forgot to colour it in.

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2019 15:34

I wouldn't like to visit Mrs Hinch's house with say a red top on or something. I feel i would spoil the look. Grin

needmorepizzainmydiet · 09/03/2019 15:34

Mrs Hinch’s house would still be awful in colour. All that crushed velvet.

americandream · 09/03/2019 15:40

YANBU, I think it's awful. DD wanted her (and her boyfriend's) house all blimmin' grey, and did the hall stairs and landing and lounge and dining room all in mid grey. It looks grim IMO. It's like being in a battleship!

I prefer magnolia, (along with rose colours, and wines and greens.) And yeah I agree equivalent to the avocado bathroom suite.

emilybrontescorsett · 09/03/2019 15:46

Dd has a new build and everything is grey!!!
However it looks fabulous.
What ever floats your boat.

emilybrontescorsett · 09/03/2019 15:51

Just googled Mrs Finch as my dd follows her on instagram. My word, I assumed she would be a much (aherm) older lady. Sort of Kim and Aggy type.
Never imagined her to be a glamarous young woman!!!!

thedisorganisedmum · 09/03/2019 15:53

Grey now looks horribly dated, and it now looks like it's only used by wannabes desperate to jump on the bandwagon.

I wouldn't even mind if it wasn't making harder to get other colours than being shown piles of samples of grey!

Even if you had a grey room before, you now have to change it to avoid looking like an Essex-Z List groupie.

thedisorganisedmum · 09/03/2019 15:55

Mrs FInch is gorgeous! She is completely bonkers, but always come across as very friendly as well. No wonder some people hate her, her recent pics of her honeymoon and baby bump haven't help.

I can't go into her cleaning obsession, but I simply... don't follow her, easy!

itsbritneybiatches · 09/03/2019 15:56

My whole upstairs is white. Floors, furniture, bedding. The lot.

Looks gorgeous with fresh lillies.

Living room and kitchen are grey and white.

Not glittery.

EntirelyAnonymised · 09/03/2019 15:57

Her name is Hinch

Ginnymweasley · 09/03/2019 15:58

I like grey. But not in every room. My house is a work in progress so we are currently living with.... a green and white woodchip living room with a hint of nicotine staining.. a bathroom that up until last week had royal blue tiled walls and floor and a navy blue ceiling, it felt like they were closing in on you. It also a lovely turquoise hall carpet with green woodwork and when we moved in one bedroom was painted completely lime green from floor to ceiling. I would take grey over any of this haha.

thedisorganisedmum · 09/03/2019 15:58

yes, typo!

dragonflyinn10 · 09/03/2019 15:59

Don't mind grey but my husband absolutely detests farrow and ball paint has worked with it in his trade and would advise anyone not to use it!!! Over priced shit he said !!
