DO NOT FLY NORWEGIAN AIRLINES!

I flew with Norwegian Airlines a few months ago, a night from New York to London. During the day of the flight I received a text message saying my flight was delayed 4 hours from 11pm till 3am, and to ring to reschedule. I rang within minutes, and was told the only available flight would be 3am 24 hours later. Laughable. Then at the airport there we were delayed AGAIN so we didn't set off until gone 5am. I understand that delays and cancellations are common with Norwegian airlines. I followed up with them months ago but did not even receive a response from them. Yes they may be cheaper than other airlines, but you're likely to regret that choice.

🙄😂😂😂

Delatron · 27/02/2019 15:22

That article backs up what I am saying. They are trying to cost cut. If a flight isn’t fully booked they’ll cancel you with about 6 hours notice...Good luck with them. I’d never risk it.

JessieMcJessie · 27/02/2019 15:24

I don’t understand. Was your flight cancelled, or delayed to 3am? Why did you have to ring to reschedule when they were notifying you about a delay, not a cancellation?

How long ago did you contact them to complain? They may have a minimum response time in their Ts and Cs. Has that time expired yet?
If you submitted your complaint via the right channel you’d likely have got an auto reply with a timeframe for substantive response in it. Did you get any auto-acknowledgement?

Delatron · 27/02/2019 15:25

Most complained about airline in 2018....
So officially they must be pretty crap.

needthisthread · 27/02/2019 15:25

They don't just cancel flights because they are not full.

sonjadog · 27/02/2019 15:26

What article? The article linked to above doesn't say anything about them cancelling flights if they aren't fully booked.

I took two Norwegian flights last week. Neither were fully booked. Both left on time.

Tomtontom · 27/02/2019 15:27

@Delatron Such a shame that they shut customer service just when your friends needed them. And your friends couldn't wait a few hours to call them.

It costs a fortune to cancel a flight without good reason, in operating costs and compensation payments. Airlines don't do it just because a flight is not fully booked.

Making such ridiculous statements makes you sound a little unhinged.

arethereanyleftatall · 27/02/2019 15:27

Depends.
Technical fault? You are being absolutely ridiculous. I can never understand those who complain planes are delayed when eg the wing has fallen off. Thank you airline people for being sensible rather than listen to the complainers.
Plane not full? Frustrating but that's the risk you take when you fly low cost.

arnotm · 27/02/2019 15:28

There were babies on board.

OP posts:
sonjadog · 27/02/2019 15:29

Are you complaining that there were babies on board? What is your point?

Tomtontom · 27/02/2019 15:30

There were babies on board.

And?

DoNotWorry · 27/02/2019 15:32

Yes we should all do what you say OP despite our own experience and judgement. YABVU.

Babies won't give a shit. Hmm shall I sleep on my mum on the plane or in the waiting lounge? Babies might give a shit if the plane crashes due to a technical fault.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 27/02/2019 15:34

Shit happens when you travel - it's something you have to accept, or stay home.

However it is massively irritating when it does, so YANBU to lose the plot temporarily. You will calm down soon - we've all been there.

needthisthread · 27/02/2019 15:35

There were babies on board

Ok.

Can you answer the question that will help determine whether YABU or not though?

What was the reason for the delay?

BadBear · 27/02/2019 15:36

Flown with them several times and never had an issue. Their customer service team is really helpful too.

If you're not getting anywhere with the airline consider talking to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)

JessieMcJessie · 27/02/2019 15:37

Do you have one of those “BABY ON BOARD” stickers on your car too OP?

DarklyDreamingDexter · 27/02/2019 15:37

Never flown Norwegian, but it will take more than just this to knock RyanAir off its generally accepted position as Europe's Crappiest Airline!

ememem84 · 27/02/2019 15:38

Ah so the plane was delayed because there were babies on board?!

sonjadog · 27/02/2019 15:39

Surely there can be no worse than Ryan Air? Is that even possible?

carrotflinger · 27/02/2019 15:39

Please tell us
a) the reason for the delay
b) what the babies on board has to do with anything?

Bluntness100 · 27/02/2019 15:42

There were babies on board

So? There usually is. For most airlines.

This is delay out with their control ie weather, so didn't get compo, and has decided to be vidictative about it.

Nice.

chemenger · 27/02/2019 15:45

They don't cancel flights that are not full, that would leave the aircraft in the wrong place for the return flight. I've flown with Norwegian quite a few times and they are fine, if very basic. I had one chaotic flight where they cancelled due to a fault on the plane followed by crew being almost out of time, then reinstated it at the very, very last minute as people were leaving the airport, but even that wouldn't stop me using them again.

Numptysod · 27/02/2019 15:46

I flown with them to Denver and Norway, WiFi awesome!
