DO NOT FLY NORWEGIAN AIRLINES!

I flew with Norwegian Airlines a few months ago, a night from New York to London. During the day of the flight I received a text message saying my flight was delayed 4 hours from 11pm till 3am, and to ring to reschedule. I rang within minutes, and was told the only available flight would be 3am 24 hours later. Laughable. Then at the airport there we were delayed AGAIN so we didn't set off until gone 5am. I understand that delays and cancellations are common with Norwegian airlines. I followed up with them months ago but did not even receive a response from them. Yes they may be cheaper than other airlines, but you're likely to regret that choice.

I am the one with the temerity to complain!
You have every right to complain if you feel that you got poor service, but you are not entitled to shout at other people; DO NOT FLY NORWEGIAN AIRLINES!
(n.b. the use of uppercase letters in emails and posts is regarded as shouting.)

I've only ever had good experiences with Norwegian Airlines. They are cheap but have always been efficient when I've used them

I don't know where to start.

@NannyRed - are you an American perchance? No offence intended, but really do you think a struggling (by the sounds of it) budget airline is going to sue someone for posting a bad review of their company on Mumsnet? And how much money could they get off me? I don't have any. It would be bad business and bad publicity. Everything I said is factually correct, or is my opinion. If something challenges your sensitivities then you should be able to challenge that without jumping on the 'I'll sue you' card. Thanks.

@Delatron - thank you, another reasonable person on here. I know of multiple people who have been cancelled on last minute from NYC with NA. I just received a text message too, with no reason.

@bluntness100 I'm sensing a lot of negativity from you here. I don't have any reticence clearly. I did not get a reason for the delay, which added to the frustration.

The new operator was HiFly.

I quite enjoyed being on the double decker airbus actually.

I waited months because I got no response from them and someone suggested leaving a review here.

Everybody, if I had got a response from NA I would've dropped it. It's more an issue of accountability. If a large company does not provide a service it is committed to providing, and then fails to even acknowledge that, then that should be highlighted to other people.
And if that same company were to sue a customer it has already failed once for leaving a bad review, then what kind of society do you live in @GrannyRed?

I fly with Norwegian about 4 times a year within Europe. They had a stretch where 90% of my flights were delayed, the worst being by 7 hours landing me in london at 4am heavily pregnant with a 3 year old.. wasn't impressed! These delays were mostly due to them treating their pilots and cabin staff like shit and then trying to pretend strikes weren't going to happen and not getting covering staff hired in time.

That said in the last year they've pulled up their socks and improved their game. I have no idea what their long haul is like though.

I think if you’ve had several bad experiences with them then you might have more of a cause to suggest people steer clear but if it’s just the once I think that’s harsh. No it wasn’t good at all to be cancelled so late on but it happens,

I flew with Jet2 several times a year since 2002. In that time I had one severely (8 hours) delayed flight. The rest of the time they’ve been consistently excellent. If that delayed flight had been my first time flying with them would it have been fair to assume they were generally crap and to tell people not to fly with them? It absolutely wouldn’t be reasonable because that was a one off.

Flown with then to NY and back a few times now, basic but perfectly reasonable..very at the cost!
My worst flight ever was American Air. Cancelled without telling us then stuck at LAX for a whole day for another flight... the when we arrived, we were all kept hanging around for an hour and a half to be told....
The baggage handlers had forgotten to unload the plane!!!
(then we got an Uber to the wrong Airbnb ..two identical street names...not our finest night!)

That's rather interesting. Mumsnet wouldn't be the usual choice for leaving an airline review.

In any case, you can't be raging at NA for a delay when your operator was Hi-Fly.

Still, you haven't told us why the delay?

Ok, since you're not responding to why it was delayed, here's my guess (no doubt if it's wrong you'll change it so that you get the responses you desire.

Hurricane Micheal was at its peak. The airline concluded that the majority of passengers would rather live and be a few hours late. Your response wasn't responded to because customer services were too busy laughing at 'some customers, eye roll.'

Actually, on this point you are bang on. How NA treated you regarding the issue is vital.

But if you have tour version of events to then as you have us it's no surprise they haven't responded.

All you said initially was the flight was delayed. Followed by there was babies on it. The rest has been like drawing fucking teeth. NA don't have time for that shit so if you didn't write your complaint clearly they probably just ignored it for making no sense.

I still don't understand why you had to rebook given your flight was delayed and not cancelled.

I think with the cheap airlines you do take a risk. I had a horrendous experience with a cancelled flight with Easyjet last year. However they have always been great before and therefore I'm not going to totally blacklist them. At the end of the day I've saved an enormous amount of money by flying with them in the past.

@needthisthread tbf to Op Norwegian subcontract flights to hi-fly. It's not a codeshare arrangement. Her beef is rightly with Norwegian not hi-fly.

Yes sorry that is true. I acknowledge that. But, what is also true is that if OP is raging about a flight delay and blaming the airline, that airline is Hi-Fly. Not Norwegian. It wasn't until later that OP decided her grievance was about not getting a response from NA rather than about being delayed.

I have flown with them a couple of times and have been very impressed.
I have also experienced quite a few delays with airlines I have flown with many times and would still fly with them again

I quite like delays , I like the compensation lol ... best one was delay of one day , night in hotel plus 3 meals plus $800 each ...we volunteered for a 2nd night ( but sadly the buggers found us a seat ! )

I've had far worse experiences flying with BA to NYC. And paid a hell of a lot for the pleasure.

I've had good experiences with NA and I'd happily fly with them again.

I also quite like delays. I think you have to adjust your mindset to enjoy them. Think of it as a few extra hours off from life, that you can do nothing about. Doesn't matter what you've got waiting at Home, it's out if your control. Zero value getting stressed about it.

I dont understand why getting a text message about cancellation is so awful. Surely it is an easy way to get the message to a lot of people as quickly as possible? If they phoned everyone, it would take hours by the time they had made contact with people, listened to them whine, rebooked their flights, etc.

I hadn't thought about it until this thread, but I think Norwegian are actually very good at communication. You get updates on your phone, and then you can go online and make the changes you need to make if necessary. On the whole, much better than sitting on the phone to customer service for ages.

What a rant OP. You are funny.

Thanks needthisthread, I like you too. Are you a single mum by any chance?

People keep going on about why was it delayed. Let me spell it out to you. I received a text message from NA the day before the flight saying it was no longer NA, but Hi-fly, and there'd be no inflight enterntainment. On the afternoon of the flight, I received another text message saying flight was delayed from 23.00pm till 3am. I had already made plans to go to the airport of course. And then at the airport there was further delay of a couple hours. There was no reason. Thanks.

@Damntheman spot on

I am curious, how many people complaining about me complaining on here have actually made that trans-atlantic flight with NA? Not many, I bet.

I flew long haul with BA last week. The seat was broken so I got moved to by the loos and got bashed by folk queuing and all the trollies and the IFE broke half way through, the staff didn't give a shit.
If found the ME airlines to be the best.
