to ask how much annual leave you get?

I get 25 (plus bank hols) days, and tbh I don't think I could take a job with much less than that.

The statutory minimum (28 including bank hols), seems to stingy, yet a lot of jobs seem to offer this. Even when i worked in a supermarket I got more than that.

42 including bank holidays.

It is high due to length of service, 22 years, and the fact that when I started you got a paid day off to go Christmas shopping plus an extra week paid if you got married. As these have now been done away they added extra annual leave to compensate

SoundofSilence · 18/02/2019 00:00

22 days plus BH, plus closure between Christmas and new year. I always suspected it was a bit stingy.

YouBumder · 18/02/2019 00:10

I honestly think time off is worth more than money. I am wondering what kind of salary increase it would take for me to go full time and go back to statutory leave - I am not sure there’s anywhere that could afford it!Grin

Linnet · 18/02/2019 00:31

I get 31 days plus 7 public holidays. I work part time so I can take a weeks holiday but actually be off for 10 days in a row.

MarthasGinYard · 18/02/2019 00:39

I work 50 percent and get 25 with additional Days we can request off

Longdistance · 18/02/2019 00:44

I work in a prep school. I get the same holidays as my dds, and some extra at the beginning of Easter, the beginning of the Summer holidays and two weeks half term in October.
Also get the bank holidays, though as it’s pro rata it’s not great money wise, but love counting down the days until the next half term as I work my butt off during term time.

IAmASkier · 18/02/2019 00:44

I’m in the US. OH gets 8 federal days a year. No annual leave. That’s in a high level, long hours professional job too. It’s shit.

Choccywoccyhooha · 18/02/2019 00:47

30 days plus bank holidays, plus I can buy 3 extra days.

DulciUke · 18/02/2019 00:58

US poster here. I get 6 weeks a year, which by US standards is incredibly generous. It's because I'm in a union.

SandyY2K · 18/02/2019 01:12

32 plus bank holidays.

Backwoodsgirl · 18/02/2019 01:28

USA, DH gets 15 days plus 10 bank holidays and flexitime. It's enough for us

OccasionallyIncomplet · 18/02/2019 01:29

250 hours which equates to 31 days + all BH. You also accrue RDIL and TOIL and normally end up with another 12 days a year from that.

If you volunteer to work a BH you get double time leave for that which can mean another 8 days leave (although you then be working all BH) so min = 39 days and max = 67 days.

HerRoyalNotness · 18/02/2019 01:40

My husbnd is a stubborn mule not wanting to move back to uk. We get 20 in uS and that includes 1 week ‘sick’ but can use as we want.

Girlicorne · 18/02/2019 01:49

I m self employed, I take all of the school holidays and bank holidays off. The thing I d struggle most with if I went back to employment is the limited holidays!!

Stupomax · 18/02/2019 01:59

stupomax that's really interesting as the belief/myth is that USA don't really do annual leave in the same way, and that people rarely get / take much?

I've never had a job here on less than 25 days a year leave but I have turned down jobs because they offer less.

A few years ago DH's company cut their leave to 15 days a year for new recruits but it made it too difficult to hire good people so they went back to offering more.

He gets 25 days but they don't really track what he actually takes.

WombOfOnesOwn · 18/02/2019 05:41

So jealous right now as an American. We get 15 days plus bank holidays at my company and consider ourselves lucky.

BlitheringIdiots · 18/02/2019 06:19

Our staff get 28 including bank holidays plus an extra week off at Xmas. But to be fair I don't count the days they take off so as long as they don't take the biscuit too much then they probably get more

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 18/02/2019 07:13

I get 25 + bank holidays, plus two Tuesdays after bank holidays, plus xmas eve and the time between xmas and new year. (but all pro-rata'd as I am 90% FTE).

It's generous but to be honest not enough. I wish I could take unpaid leave but it's not allowed.

tirisfalpumpkin · 18/02/2019 07:20

27+bank hols, and the option to ‘buy’ more to a max of 30. I am quite limited when I can take them, but on the whole my employer is quite generous.

6 complete years service, private sector.

SherlockSays · 18/02/2019 07:45

27 days plus bank holidays, rising to 30 after 3 or 5 years - I can't remember! I hope it's 3 because that's this year Grin

Iamclearlyamug · 18/02/2019 07:47

Not quite the same as I'm self employed but I usually take around 8 weeks a year - I do work BH as standard though and only take boxing day off over Christmas

SherlockSays · 18/02/2019 07:47

Also, we work on TOIL so I work a little extra each day and then take a day off here and there, and can buy up to another 10 days.

n0ne · 18/02/2019 07:48

29 plus bank hols for FT - pretty decent

generalexpert · 18/02/2019 07:48

Zero. No work no pay. Same for sickness.

SimplyPut · 18/02/2019 07:49

32 days plus bank holidays so essentially 8 weeks as bank holidays can be taken whenever I wish.
