to ask how much annual leave you get?

I get 25 (plus bank hols) days, and tbh I don't think I could take a job with much less than that.

The statutory minimum (28 including bank hols), seems to stingy, yet a lot of jobs seem to offer this. Even when i worked in a supermarket I got more than that.

35 plus BH, plus each BH you get an extra BH. Total of 6 extra BH days I think. Plus time off between Xmas and new year.

PinkBuffalo · 17/02/2019 22:29

I get quite a lot as I've worked there for over 10 years so get the maximum leave for my grading. 28 days plus can accrue a couple flexi every month.
I have struggled to take mine this leave year due to personal problems and I'm looking at losing 10 days leave. I've asked if they can pay me for it but it's not looking hopeful...

FrenchyQ · 17/02/2019 22:31

21 + bank holidays. Can increase to max 25 with long service and I can buy 2 more days a year.

Seems quite stingy compared to others!

lotusbell · 17/02/2019 22:34

None, I'm in a casual position, although the work is full time and regular. So if I want a day off, I don't get paid. Yay, half term! Hmm

Megan2018 · 17/02/2019 22:37

28 plus bank hols, plus 6 extra paid closure days where we are closed but we can’t choose. 4 days over Christmas, 1 at Easter and 1 Summer. These 2 are tagged on to the Tues after the Bank Hols.

My previous employer was even better at 33, plus bank hols and 3 extra days at Christmas. I miss that!

Snuffalo · 17/02/2019 22:45

This would actually be useful and interesting if people said anything whatsoever about their industry, job, and pay. For example I’m a programme manager (basically I manage project managers and organise who does what) at a major airline in IT, I make 120k per year plus a 10-20% bonus, and I get 33+8 but I negotiated hard for it and nearly didn’t get it. The standard is 23+8 for professional staff and less than that for admin and call centre. Cabin crew are another story entirely- very convoluted and regulated and there is an entire 30 person team working in shifts just to manage their schedules.

Snuffalo · 17/02/2019 22:49

Oh and when I worked in the states before moving here, similar job, similar level, I got 20 days of leave and that was considered really generous. 2 weeks is normal and no paid leave at all is the norm for people in non-professional jobs- clerks, cleaners, fast food, shops, etc.

huggybear · 17/02/2019 22:52

Wow! We get 23 + bank holidays and Christmas closure is usually 3 or 4. Frankly I think it's loads. We get there holidays and a couple of mini breaks as well as some for emergencies. Even our most senior colleagues get 28 + bank hols and Christmas.

huggybear · 17/02/2019 22:53

Three*

PorpentinaScamander · 17/02/2019 22:55

I get 210 hours which works out as 16.8 days.
But to put that in context I work 3 days per week (and our work weeks are weird) so if I time it right I can end up with 7 days off but only take 1 day annual leave.

Redcampions · 17/02/2019 22:56

28 days plus bank holidays and I work 2 13 hour shifts a week and one 4 hour shift. One of the days is a Monday so I get credited for the bank holiday if I work and get double time.
Must better then my other job of 18 days and 9 of them were office close days that we had to take.

Handay · 17/02/2019 23:05

30 plus bank holidays plus two days at Xmas plus if we work extra hours (most of us do - nature of the job) we can take up to two days' TOIL a month as long as we record those extra hours. The TOIL can be taken as either half days or full days so it's really handy for things like kids' medical appointments/waiting in for workmen etc, and leaves us free to use our leave on nice stuff. We are very lucky. But we do all work really hard when we're in!

DerelictWreck · 17/02/2019 23:08

So jealous of everyone who gets TOIL. The amount of overtime I do as standard would be so fruitful with TOIL!

I get 25 + bh + we close completely between Christmas even and 2nd jan for free

steff13 · 17/02/2019 23:10

I get 35 vacation days, 4 personal days, 8 national holidays, and 10 sick days.

Handay · 17/02/2019 23:13

DerelictWreck I hate to say it but TOIL properly managed is ace. I never had it before this job so spent a couple of decades not being paid for all the time I really did. I would never go back to that now. As I say, the nature of my job means that we all work more than 37.5 hours a week. It makes a massive difference to doing so when you know you can have a cheeky Friday afternoon off to get your hair done because of it though. And, miraculously, the work still gets done. 😉

Nat6999 · 17/02/2019 23:15

I used to work 19 hours over 3 days term time (civil service) I got equivalent of 6 weeks on top of term time holidays that included the B/H days plus I was allowed 33 hours time off for caring - if child or disabled husband needed caring for or hospital visits. That was after 27 years service. Thankfully I'm retired now.

PandorasWhiskers · 17/02/2019 23:16

18 wks - long days but I know I’m v lucky
(Most of the time)

Stupomax · 17/02/2019 23:18

I'm in the US. Last employed job I was on 28 days leave plus bank hols. If I'd stayed a few more years I'd have gone up to 33 days.

YouBumder · 17/02/2019 23:19

36 days inclusive of bank holidays.

HermioneKipper · 17/02/2019 23:20

30 days plus bank holidays

Pieandpeas3 · 17/02/2019 23:20

8 weeks including bank holidays and have bought 6 weeks extra annual leave.

I see lots of jobs that I am interested in and they only offer 20 days plus bank holidays which I would really struggle with.

YouBumder · 17/02/2019 23:24

8 weeks including bank holidays and have bought 6 weeks extra annual leave.

That sounds fantastic! I could buy leave in my last job but only a max of a week. I always bought my week! Well worth the money ;)

DerelictWreck · 17/02/2019 23:40

handay sounds like a dream! I work FT but rarely do less than 50-60 hours. Love my job though, so it's just part of it I suppose. Not sure when I'd find the time to take TOIL!

stupomax that's really interesting as the belief/myth is that USA don't really do annual leave in the same way, and that people rarely get / take much?

JaceLancs · 17/02/2019 23:43

30 days plus bank holidays (long service)
I also earn extra by working over and claiming as TOIL

Georgieporgie1916 · 17/02/2019 23:51

NHS here, I get 33 plus bank hols also get 3 days compassionate leave, 3 days carers leave and 3 hospital appointments so 42 if I needed to. Nice deal I think
