She was groomed, radicalized and trafficked. She left the safety of her family to be sold to a stranger as his bride. She is 19 and has buried two babies. One of her friends is dead. I do not think she can be allowed back into the country as she poses a risk of doing the same to other girls as she is too far down the rabbit hole. It is still an absolute tragedy though. She actively sought these people out on social media and engaged with them for some time. She went to Syria via a well organised and planned journey which involved money laundering, passport theft and clandestine communications designed to thwart the security services stopping her.
She has stayed right until the bitter end and is one of the last few thousand ISIS members left. She has been committed to their cause and actively promoted her membership of it and assisted in any way she can. She has never tried to contact her family, she’s never tried to leave, she’s never tried to flee.
