To think everyone saying Shamima Begum should rot in Syria have completely overlooked the fact that she is pregnant

Just that really. She did a terrible thing going to Syria to marry an ISIS fighter. But she was only 15 and probably incredibly naive. She has already lost two children, one as a complication of malnutrition. And the child she is pregnant with has done nothing wrong. Surely we shouldn't leave him or her there to die too?

The baby is an innocent who has done nothing wrong.

wigglypiggly · 17/02/2019 19:35

The baby is innocent, so were all the men, women and children who were killed and wounded in this conflict by people she supported. How many of those innocent people are being helped to come to the UK.

Vicky1990 · 17/02/2019 19:37

On the BBC radio news tonight.
It was reported that she thought it was ok to behead people as the Koran allowed it.
So even been brought up in the UK she still didn't understand it was wrong to murder people, is this what Muslims think?.
If she comes back here she will be a celebrity to like minded people, given a house and benefits, hold TV interviews, write a book, thus showing other religious nut cases that the UK is a soft touch and they can do the same.

woodhill · 17/02/2019 19:56

Totally agree Grumple

Justanotherlurker · 17/02/2019 19:57

Another reason why it's news is because IS are on the verge of being defeated territory wise so a lot on journalists have gone over.

It's a devicive topic with an emotional pull with her having a new born.

The past few days a woman wants to go back to Canada who also doesn't regret it, and a women regrets her decision and wants to return to the states. It's a big international news story because we do not know whether the last remaining few are the truly battle hardened, groomed against their will or following know IS tactics of dispersing to create sleeper cells etc, her having a child is the perfect emotional pull as a reason to discuss it 'more' than previous male fighters, whom obviously didn't wait until defeat to want to return

Imissgmichael · 17/02/2019 19:58

I know what you mean Vicky. It’s also taught that rape is ok of children and women.

However not all Muslims are like this. This disgusting terrorist organisation thinks some Muslims aren’t the right type of Muslims so deserve the same fate. It’s a distortion of Islam.

I don’t believe this girl was groomed and I think that the security services should take a long hard look at her family.

AllesAusLiebe · 17/02/2019 20:03

Nobody has overlooked the fact that she was pregnant, it’s been the main focus of this damn story. For some, being pregnant offers atonement for being a criminal with a vile ideology.

The problem here is that the government were too slow to consider what would happen when ISIS were nearing defeat and these scum wanted to return, so we have no legislation to prevent them from doing so.

JRMisOdious · 17/02/2019 20:42

Completely take your point about the contrasting lack of furore over returning male fighters, giraffeduck. Possibly this is because though equally heinous, indeed probably more so (though we don’t know what she has taken part in) they are not unexpected . For me, it’s the juxtaposition of a young woman who in one breath expresses concern for the welfare of and demands human rights for her own child whilst in the next demonstrates a complete lack of care and empathy for the thousands of children slaughtered in the name of her own beliefs and worse no doubt carried out by her own husband.

SummerHouse · 17/02/2019 20:49

not all Muslims are like this
Like saying not all men are murderers.
These are terrorists.
Terrorists are terrorists.
It's not about being Muslim.

Imissgmichael · 17/02/2019 21:01

Summerhouse what the feck are going on about. These are Muslim terrorists. They are using their twisted view of Islam to rape and murder. This is everything to do with them being Muslim, regardless how twisted their views are. Stop making excuses for them. It isn’t a good look and it reminds me of those people that made excuses for the Rotherham rapist gangs. Enough is enough.

As a RC I’m horrified about the abuse of kids by priests. I’m not pontificating about it being nothing to do with Catholicism. These vile priests used their religion to do what they did. Dear god stop making excuses. It’s disgusting. Give your head a wobble.

yolofish · 17/02/2019 21:07

I can't really be bothered about her and her one unborn child when you consider how many other thousands of children, other people's children/sibs/parents etc have had their lives destroyed by a hideous idealogy.

Grumpelstilskin · 17/02/2019 21:17

Someone raised a very good point though, we really have zero proof that she was pregnant at all and if that is her baby. It might very well be a cynical ploy to allow her to return because that is literally the only reason that she might receive any clemency. And a way of getting a terrorist back in the UK. I have read about a number of western ‘housewives’ like her who terrorised local women to curry favour with the ISIS elite by being bigoted zealots and persecuting local women. I think she is a sociopath and should be left to the Kurdish or Yazidi forces to deal with her appropriately.

user1481840227 · 17/02/2019 21:32

Grumpelstilskin, it doesn't sound like she tried to court the media though, the initial story from the journalist said that he found her when he went to the camp didn't it?

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 17/02/2019 21:38

Is she in that camp voluntarily? Or being held captive?
She said she had no money, but I can't believe there aren't people out there who would fund her escape/release. So, is she free to leave if she has help?

Yabbers · 17/02/2019 22:19

Maybe you should educate yourself and realise you cannot give an analysis over a few interviews.
And yet a few interviews has been enough for the vast majority to proclaim she absolutely cannot return.

we would be going to fetch her to be deprogramed
Except that the immediate problem is not her mental state but her current location. The Government will not risk lives to get her out and there is no operational embassy in Syria where she can get help.

Not not quite so clued up yourself, eh?

There’s an article in You magazine today about young women who lived in Mosul when ISIS overran it. It’s just heartbreaking. One young woman told how her family had two cars and her father made all the women and girls get in first so they could flee danger, but there wasn’t room for him so he told them to leave him and he’d follow. ISIS shot him before he left the city.

There were countless rapes and girls held in dungeons and sexually tortured. Many had babies that were literally snatched from them and thrown in the trash by ISIS.

They tested girls for virginity and took the virgins for sex slaves from the age of 10 and put the rest in prison in hellish conditions where they were drugged. They were sold as slaves and raped and only fed every ten days.

One girl was shown her cousin’s severed head.

I struggle to care about her.

AnnaComnena · 17/02/2019 22:58

it doesn't sound like she tried to court the media though, the initial story from the journalist said that he found her when he went to the camp didn't it

She didn't have to identify herself to him. I believe he asked if there were any British jihadi brides, or something like that. She spoke up, he recognised a London accent, and it went from there. She could have kept quiet and said nothing.

I wonder if any media or other organisation will assist her in getting to a consulate when she's able to travel, or if the govt has indicated privately that they'd rather they didn't.
