How much exercise do you do per week?

How much exercise do you do throughout an average week? I feel like I’ve been so lazy recently and want to get back into it so looking for a bit of inspiration. Also interested in seeing if there are many others who pretty much do nothing like me. Thanks

4 gym sessions a week (mix of cross trainer and interval running) and one street dance workshop. Love it!

SnakeRattleRoll · 07/02/2019 16:23

Try and get to a local parkrun if you have one. Such a friendly environment, you can walk it if you want. There is a tail runner so you are never last and it's a great way to get excerise, fresh air and see improvement every week. It changed my life, as did joining the local running club! I was 6 stone overweight 3 years ago and now I'm coming 1st in races and never felt better about myself

simplythebestofall · 07/02/2019 17:04

I get up at 5 on weekdays to fit in a 10k run and a Spin session before going to work where I save lives. I run a marathon most weekends.

Calvinsmam · 07/02/2019 17:06

I do 6 yoga sessions a week,
2 1 hour pt sessions working on strength,
And I walk for 30 minutes every day.

Other than that I’m pretty static.

DonnaDarko · 07/02/2019 17:08

On average, I manage 20 minutes of yoga once a week. On a good week, maybe 3 times. It's tough having the time as we don't have much space, I work longish hours/ commute quite far, and do most of the house stuff.

I'm about to move to a new job where I can work remotely, and so I'm hoping I'll be able to do a routine a day, and maybe mix it up with some cardio.

rosewater20 · 07/02/2019 17:49

I spend about 40 minutes in the gym six days per week doing cardio (taking a treadmill to its highest incline and fast walking) and weights. I also do pilates 2-3 times per week, and I walk a few miles per day. I also do a 50-minute meditation class once per week, and I am adding in yoga once per week to help with anxiety and general mental health.

OP, You can get in and out of your workout quickly if you do high-intensity workouts.

Jennbot · 07/02/2019 18:03

I run 3 times a week between 7-

Jennbot · 07/02/2019 18:06

Wasn't me!
I run between 7 - 10 k three times a week. I feel so crap if I ever take a break that I will never stop now.
Late 50's with rubbish joints it really really helps to run.
My incentive is the feeling fit over being unfit. Nothing beats running fitness

The only contributors will be exercise enthusiasts

Nope. I hate exercise. It makes me miserable. But it's necessary for me to be healthy so I wake up half an hour early every morning to exercise before my family and full time job take over for the rest of the day.

PineappleC · 08/02/2019 19:05

I read this thread with genuine interest - I'm training for a marathon (comfortably sub 4hrs) and don't do half the amount of exercise as the others!!

OP - best thing to do is to start increasing exercise gradually and find something you enjoy, so it's not a chore. Also It's not about tine spent, but quality - e.g. for cardio, a 20 min workout that raises your heart rate will do loads more than 1hr of light gym activity 😊

EvaHarknessRose · 08/02/2019 19:18

To fit in exercise with DC, some of the things I have done

  • danced for half an hour to silly music with little ones
  • run or walked nearby while they do sports clubs (if dark and I don't know the area, might do circuits of the car park or up and down a hill)
  • got DH to drop me off halfway home from a family day out and run the rest of the way home
  • yoga app at home
ShastaBeast · 08/02/2019 19:20

Gym twice a week and I thought that was good going until reading this thread. I do walk fast on the commute for about 20 mins each way broken up in three parts... Thinking of joining another gym near work for Pilates/yoga and some extra gym sessions while it’s cold. Then back to running in summer 2-3 times a week. Asthma too bad to run in the cold air.

Bumbalaya · 08/02/2019 19:20

I do 4x 45 minute cardio gym work outs a week.

Lovingit81 · 08/02/2019 19:32

I have great weeks and bad weeks but on average I run three times a week (2 short and fast and one long run) and do two 30min hit sessions including body weight and weights. Sometimes I get a swim or yoga class in too....sometimes I just eat chocolate Grin

HenweeArcher · 08/02/2019 19:38

2-3 x turbo or wattbike sessions = 1.5-3 hours
3-4 x runs = 3-5 hours
2 x swims = 1-1.5 hours
1 x weights = 45mins-1 hour

6-10ish hours per week depending on what I can fit in I guess? I’m on 5 hours this week and have Parkrun tomorrow, a half marathon on Sunday and possibly a quick turbo to spin my legs out tomorrow night left to do.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/02/2019 19:43

I run 4 or 5 times a week. Few weights at the gym. That's it. I should do more.

AnotherPidgey · 08/02/2019 19:47

Typically about 4-5 times per week. Mainly running with some yoga or DVDs.

When I worked full time, I went to a class/for a run weekend mornings, and if workload permitted squeezed in some early morning/ late night runs when I could.

YourFly · 08/02/2019 19:48

Does walking count?

Im on my feet at work all day, 5 days a week, then still on them for 4 hours each evening & 12 hours a day at weekends.

I bet it still doesnt count as it doesnt make me breathless.

Pursefirst · 08/02/2019 19:56

I currently do F45 classes 6 days a week, along with a 5k run twice a week. I'm due to have surgery soon though, which means I won't be able to do anything other than walking for 6 months and I am bloody dreading it Sad

Zebra31 · 08/02/2019 19:57

I spin 3 times a week (45 minutes), 2 weight / strength sessions (1hr) and I mountain bike at the weekend (not every weekend, depends on childcare etc.). I would mountain bike every weekend if I could.

areyoubeingserviced · 09/02/2019 17:19

I do lots of exercise
When the kids were younger, I didn’t do any, but now that they are teens, I have more time
I do a mixture of classes; spin, Thai boxing, Callanetics ,,Tabatha, circuits and body pump. I love it
I work four days a week , but usually go straight to the gym after work

longestlurkerever · 09/02/2019 17:21

Until recently basically none, now I am swimming a few times a week and doing the park run once a week. I love the swimming, running not so much but people keep assuring me I will soon!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 09/02/2019 17:22

Loads of walking
Cycle to work
Swimming a few times
Floor exercise most days

Feel better for it . 100%
Still knackered but just chucking out all my old size 14, 16 and XL and it’s been a year now and I won’t gain it back ! 😬

Marmite27 · 09/02/2019 17:22

Parkrun and an hour of yoga.

Plan to go back to bootcamp once the nights are lighter so I can bring the toddler more easily.

Lotsofsausage · 09/02/2019 18:47

5 x gym sessions on a good week. Early mornings before work, a mixture of cardio, weight lifting and gymnastic type stuff and a session on a Saturday if I can get out. Plus 30 mins walk to work most week days. I do a very sedentary desk job.
For reference I used to work out 3x pw and it was having little impact on my body weight or fitness levels until I upped it to 5x.
