How much exercise do you do per week?

How much exercise do you do throughout an average week? I feel like I’ve been so lazy recently and want to get back into it so looking for a bit of inspiration. Also interested in seeing if there are many others who pretty much do nothing like me. Thanks

@Muminho I'm similar. Three kids and a full time job, mine are ages 6-10. Getting a treadmill made a big difference to me as it meant I could run every evening and basic weights too which you can use for loads of free videos online. Joining a gym has been good as I love classes and it's meant I can go to them before I start work at 7, I catch a 30 min high impact class at 6am. Feels good to get training done early.

enterpasscode · 06/02/2019 19:15

Probably adds up to 6-7 hours...walks several times a week plus longer one on weekend, 2-3 gym classes

MissMacaron · 06/02/2019 19:18

I do yoga five times a week (usually breaks down to two 1 hr sessions, a couple of half hour ones while the DC are eating breakfast and then something in between depending on how much time I have). Then I go to a burlesque class once a week too. Try and walk rather than take the car when the weather is ok-ish too.

Muminho · 06/02/2019 19:52

Thank you @momdeguerre. I don't think I could hack the early start but I could definitely fit in following a YouTube class or similar one or two evenings at home. Thanks OP, this thread has given me a few ideas (and renewed inspiration)

JaceLancs · 06/02/2019 19:55

4 hours in 2 x 2 hour blocks
Plus the usual exercise gained by walking housework etc
I try and use stairs rather than lifts if possible
Every little helps

user1471592953 · 06/02/2019 20:05

1 x Pilates;
1 x cardio class; and
1 x weights class

per week. Also cycle locally and run once a week if time.

myidentitymycrisis · 06/02/2019 20:14

walk 20 minutes brisk to work and back 3 or 4 days a week .
run 4km every other day
other walks ad hoc e.g. 40 minute power walk today as well

lastqueenofscotland · 06/02/2019 20:21

A lot... usually something like this

Monday: callisthenics at home for half hour AM
Evening 7-8 mile run always hilly

Tuesday: callisthenics again
Evening run 5-6 miles fast

Wednesday: steady 5k in the morning and steady 4 in the evening

Thursday steady 5k in the morning, track running session in the evening, and run to/from the track. Makes about 14 miles

Friday: very slow 5k and a swim

Saturday: parkrun, then lead a C25k group. Do some yoga

Sunday: either 10-13 mile run or a race. Swim/yoga in the evening

I love running Blush

whitehousemum · 06/02/2019 20:30

I do two 20-30 min runs per week, 1 1hr Zumba class and try to do 3 yoga sessions as well. I try to walk instead of driving when I can but haven’t so much in the weather recently. I used to do no exercise and feel a lot better for it now.

MrsPinkCock · 06/02/2019 20:37

Dog walking 7 days a week. Brisk, because spaniel.

I do 12-15k steps per day.

And VR workouts, which are so fun. I don’t like traditional workouts or the gym. I do have a treadmill though.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 06/02/2019 20:44

Gym 4-6 times a week depending on work, weight training and cardio. Walk about 3-4 miles per day - walking to work and general pottering around.

FreeButtonBee · 06/02/2019 20:49

I am up to 2 spin classes a week. Started going once a week last September once my youngest started pre school. Managed to fit in another class at lunch or after work one day. I’d like to fit in a run once a week too but it hasn’t happened yet! When the weather improves I will hopefully get back into cycling to/from work a couple f days a week. It’s 10 miles across London so quite challenging. I couldn’t really fit in any more without sacrificing either time with my kids or DH or doing a shit job at work. I’m also one of those people who needs a lot of sleep.

Maneandfeathers · 06/02/2019 20:50

I think a lot of it depends on what sort of lifestyle you have.

We have horses and so I spend about an hour on a morning lifting Hay/water/straw around and mucking out.
I also ride 5x per week around 30mins to 1 hour and have two large dogs which require about an hours walk per day, so around 2hrs/day most days.

I’ve never hit the gym in my life though!

Ivegotthree · 06/02/2019 20:50

You will get only the hardcore exercisers here!

I try to run three times a week. With three DC and a full time job it's bloody hard fitting it in though.

Bebe03 · 06/02/2019 20:57

The only contributors will be exercise enthusiasts!

I aim for six days a week & probably average five but this wouldn’t have been achievable when I first started out.

It took me realistic goals, recovery time & finding out what I really enjoyed through attending various classes & the gym.

You need to think what is realistic for you & start slowly- any increase is better than nothing to start off with.

It also depends on commitments- children, job type & hours and affordability - work out what suits you!

halfwitpicker · 06/02/2019 21:00

Very sedentary here. Try and tramp around the garden a bit at the weekend.

Will up the ante as it were in spring.

MichelleM30 · 06/02/2019 21:13

None. Unless u count occasionally running to catch a train.

I'd like to but with a 1yr old and working part time, it's hard to find the time. Although I'm also slim so I don't have the motivation to try and find the time.

Frosty66611 · 07/02/2019 09:37

Well most of you have put me royally to shame and I definitely need to get my arse into gear!

I found CrossFit about a year and a half ago and it radically changed my attitude towards fitness and strength.
I go at least 4 times per week as well as the odd run and walking the dog

Margot3 · 07/02/2019 13:54

I do a HIIT work out DVD 5 times a week. It makes me feel good and really sets me up for the day.

EmmaStone · 07/02/2019 13:56

I'm not having a great week this week, but I'm usually a bit better. So a normal week would be:

Yoga class once a week
Circuits class once a week
Either a PT session / run / cycle / weights at home once a week.

And then some other stuff in between, often a walk at lunchtime, or on the treadmill at home.

I've got an Apple Watch which keeps me very motivated. I work from home once a week, and then am out of the house from 7:30-6:00 3 times a week, so I really do need to try and slot it in as and where - having the treadmill (and now a spinning bike too), as well as various weights at home are a big help. And having older children who are very happy to let me get on with it (as it means their screen-time is uninterrupted Grin).

Spiderpants · 07/02/2019 14:10

Since October I've been trying to swim for 30/40 minutes everyday if that's not possible I aim for a minimum of 3 times a week, since January I've also started going in the gym 3 time a week and do a 20/30 min run/cycle or crosstrainer (change it up a bit as the gym is so boring).
When I can I also play Hockey but cannot train anymore due to childcare so just fit in the odd game when I can on a Saturday or Sunday.

BenjiB · 07/02/2019 14:16

I do the housework and run around after the kids 😁

itssquidstella · 07/02/2019 16:09

I exercise five times a week: 1 x run, 1 x yoga class and 3 x circuits/HIIT classes.

I am trying to do an at-home yoga work out on my off days too, even if it's just 15-20 minutes on the mat.

I walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day anyway as I have an active job but I feel twitchy if I don't do any 'proper' exercise.

ZanyMobster · 07/02/2019 16:19

I was doing nothing due to an injury. I had to change what I was doing as it's never healed enough so I joined a chain gym and they do loads of HIITs/circuit style classes each week. I do about 6 half hour classes Mon-Fri. I have only been going 4 weeks but the change is more than I have ever seen. I think it is the style of class that helps (body conditioning/strength stuff) and the fact it's only if hour so you really work hard and never feel like you can't be bothered.

It's a really cheap gym also so that's always a bonus.
