How much exercise do you do per week?

How much exercise do you do throughout an average week? I feel like I’ve been so lazy recently and want to get back into it so looking for a bit of inspiration. Also interested in seeing if there are many others who pretty much do nothing like me. Thanks

I'm lucky to have a physical job, but on average I walk 9-10 miles a day (6-7 on weekends) and I also go to the gym 4-5 times a week depending on work. I'm still overweight so clearly I need to do more 🙈🙈

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 06/02/2019 17:59

I have three kids and work and study so ZERO time

I stay active in short bursts. Today I did a 20 minute you tube workout. Lucy Wyndham Read is amazing. Yesterday I did a 25 minute rebounder workout. I walk a lot. On days I get a minute I will do cycle or a short run. Walk the dogs briskly to school. I have kettlebells and weights in the house and do a 10 minute workout when I can or yoga.

I honestly believe that anyone can be fit with 10 minutes a day and a generally active life (walking every day).

WatchingFromTheWings · 06/02/2019 18:04

5 mornings a week, min 1 hour plus 2-3 lunchtime sessions. Mix of weights, aerobics and workout class.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 06/02/2019 18:06

Walk 7 miles a day 6 days a week (was 5). Do weight training 3 times a week with DH. Do yoga and back stretches every day. It sucks.

Nacreous · 06/02/2019 18:06

Prior to October: basically nothing. Odd phases of a bit of swimming or whatever. Reasonable underlying fitness though - did a 2.3k swim with no training.

Since October, 1hr a day brisk walk 5 days a week, plus more at the weekends. And now getting fitter as I train for a 5kn swim at the end of march, so usually managing to swim once a week, plus walking every day, plus yoga once a week plus one other fitness class which I vary.

That seems like a lot of me, as there's the house to run, and food to cook, and I have a full-time job. The recommendation is 30mins moderate exercise (e.g. a properly brisk heart rate raising walk) 5x a week, so I'm doing more than double that. I'm getting fitter and slimmer (but not really lighter) than I was when I was sedentary.

Muck out my horses stable 5 days a week and ride 4 days a week. Try to walk for half an hour each lunch.

And yet despite restricting my diet as well, I do not lose weight. Damn body.

wooster16 · 06/02/2019 18:28

Walk 3 miles (there and back) as part of commute
Walk the dogs morning and evening
Classes 3x per week (cardio)

wooster16 · 06/02/2019 18:29

Also would love to do more but fitting it in is difficult!

Iblinkedandiamold · 06/02/2019 18:30

I started exercising regularly in August. I don't know how many hours per week I do, I do a boot camp 2 a weeks, park run on Saturdays and most Sunday's I do a walk, depending on the weather it's either 3k or 6k.

Before August I used to walk almost every day during the summer months only because I was off work. Didn't really do classes. I am a little addicted now. Grin

TheKitchenWitch · 06/02/2019 18:34

Wearywithteens bwahahahah! Yup, me too.

None at all. I walk the dog every day, does that count?
I loathe exercise. Even the thought of doing a class or workout of any kind is making me anxious.

Mmmhmmokdear · 06/02/2019 18:36

I do something every day. Could be for hours, could be for a few minutes.

Sometimes running, sometimes cycling, sometimes swimming, sometimes weights, sometimes yoga, sometimes pilates, sometimes HIIT, sometimes classes. I mix it up so I don't get bored, no week is the same.

I did run every day January and the monotony really dragged.

FlamingJuno · 06/02/2019 18:37

I do a class (bodypump, HIIT, circuits etc) every day except Sunday. Short 5km fast run on a Monday, a longer run once a week (15km today), PT session once a week. Active holidays. No other exercise as I have a sedentary job.

Annandale · 06/02/2019 18:40

A lot more, now, because I'm a widow with a mid-teens son. All of a sudden I have time to exercise. About 8 hours a week of rowing, hiking, yoga and exercise classes, plus cycling to work and back which is another 5 hours a week. Cycling to work I was able to do even when I had no other time and I think has meant at least my legs stayed reasonably strong.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 06/02/2019 18:42

Walking is exercise - the best kind!

Moominfan · 06/02/2019 18:44

Gym weight training 3 days a week. Love getting out on a hike whenever chance presents itself. I exercise for my mental health more than anything. Need the serotonin

Limensoda · 06/02/2019 18:47

If you are doing all that plus have a physical job and still overweight you must be eating a massive amount of food? You are doing more than most people.

Muminho · 06/02/2019 18:47

This thread is so dispiriting. I'm trying really hard but struggle to fit in more than two sessions a week. I don't know how you all do it!

I work full time so out of house 8-6 Mon-Fri (minimum). 3 children age 15, 13 and 8. Children's sports etc (ironically) take up every evening except the one I guard jealously for my sport. Obviously have to feed them all and put youngest to bed, do chores etc. DS13 does cook tea once a week and DH does all laundry. DH away 1-2 nights a week and rarely back in time to help with much on other nights. Saturdays I run a 5k and Sundays again is all about DS sports.

Seriously I would love some tips on fitting more in because I'd like to do 3x sessions minimum but fitting in the third is a real challenge.

Tattybear16 · 06/02/2019 18:49

Every week 1 hour of Zumba; 1 hour of clubbersize; 2 hours of ballroom / Latin dance; 2 hours of dance choreography heels class; 3 x 8km walks; 1 hour of of yoga and working full time 40hr week. Bloody love dancing, hate the gym.

Momdeguerre · 06/02/2019 18:49

I'm required to stay fit for work but I really do love to train and compete. Usually I do boxing on a Monday and Wednesday night which is 90 mins of hardcore cardio and sparring. Tuesday is a run - usually a steady 5k on a treadmill. Thursday is circuits. Friday is Bodypump or weight training or more boxing. Saturday I do a couple of hours of roller derby and maybe a run. Sunday is an early morning boot camp. My husband and I work shifts so sometimes I have to switch this about to make it work - my gym does early morning classes and I like to get to them if I can. I feel grotty if I don't get to train!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/02/2019 18:50

Last week according to Fitbit I did 117,500 steps, and that included 521 'active minutes' which is when the heart rate increases to count as exercise.

In real terms, i ran 4 times totalling 35km and did 2x 1hr circuits/bootcamp classes, plus school run twice each weekday. I am generally pretty busy most days alongside actual formal exercise.

This week I've run 18km so far, and will do 11 or 12 tomorrow, plus another short one on Friday and bootcamp Saturday morning. Currently on 60k steps since Monday am.

CatnissEverdene · 06/02/2019 18:51

I usually walk the dog for around an hour in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon at a very brisk pace, but we've got a new puppy and can't do more than 20/30 minutes a day with her at the moment. I haven't got time on my work days to walk them separately. It's really annoying and I can feel that my weight loss has come to a grinding halt.
