Private school: To go without a tie?

Sorry - posting for traffic as I need a quick selection of opinions!
DS has an interview for an excellent private school on Monday - he's 11.
I'm planning nice chino's, clean polished shoes, open neck shirt and sweater.
Friend and my mother think a tie is necessary.
What do you think? Particularly if you experience of such things.
Thanks so much

Top hat, tails and a monacle

Current school uniform or smart trousers, jumper, shirt ( or collared polo shirt). I wouldn't sent DC in a tie. His interviews he did not wear current school uniform for assessment s etc if it was not asked for.

do you really want people to comment further

FFs - why are you so bloody RUDE? A poster asked me what he wore in the end, how it went - I said I'd feedback after the event and I did.

No need for you to stick your nasty beak in.
