to think that Ant McPartlin winning a TV award is the height of piss taking?

I don't watch all those odd programmes they present but the man

-cheated on his wife with his PA, now girlfriend, and she is quite obviously pregnant
-writes an article flaunting his love for his new girlfriend while still divorcing his wife
-caused a nasty accident and was subsequently convicted of drink driving

  • has not worked for a whole year

yet apparently won an award last night!

Others in the public eye who have done what he has done get vilified (look at Prince Philip's car accident!)

I just saw this on NewsThump...

newsthump.com/2019/01/23/drink-driving-less-bad-if-youre-good-at-telly-confirms-public/

Yuuuup, pretty much fucking sums it up.

SerenDippitty · 23/01/2019 22:18

Blond PA...what a walking cliché. He has a weird forehead. Slopey.

And he can help that how, exactly?

MumUnderTheMoon · 23/01/2019 22:32

YANBU it's a joke.

BejamNostalgia · 23/01/2019 22:37

She’s not pregnant. People have been saying that months and still no bump.

I think he has been very cruel the way he handled the new relationship. His PRs were obviously selling it to the papers to improve his image and they clearly arranged photo calls with the paps on multiple occasions.

I don’t think it would have hurt him to say something nice about Lisa and their marriage when they split, but he just stuck the boot in.

She didn’t behave well either, but it clearly blind sided her and she was very hurt, but he didn’t seem to have the slightest doubt or unhappiness.

Samcro · 23/01/2019 22:41

Imo he is a very clever man who knows exactly how to play the media.
Or he has a very good team behind him,

KimchiLaLa · 23/01/2019 22:44

Yes agree. I was pissed off. Who is voting?! I think him and his girlfriend/ex-mistress are awful.

I like Dec more this year though.

KimchiLaLa · 23/01/2019 22:47

Were Phil and Holly pretending they were drunk and had just come into work from the after party again? That's just so hilarious

Yes. It really does my head in. Every. Fucking. Year. WE ARE BORED.

Charley50 · 23/01/2019 23:08

@DaffoDeffo - is that you Dermot? Grin

newnameforthis7 · 23/01/2019 23:08

Yeah Phil and Holly pretending to still be drunk is pathetic. At 10.30am you would NOT still be drunk from the night before. You'd only be drunk at 10.30am, if you had started drinking at 6am and kept drinking til 9.00am-9.30 am.

I used to quite like them, but I find them irritating now. We know you are not drunk, and it's an act. Just STOP it. Hmm

Charley50 · 23/01/2019 23:09

What I was outraged about was that the Bodyguard won best drama and not Killing Eve.

newnameforthis7 · 23/01/2019 23:12

Yeah I liked the Bodyguard (and Richard Madden is gorgeous!) But I think Killing Eve and The Cry deserved to win more.

And Danny facking Dyer winning best serial drama actor?! Christ on a bike! Confused

Butterymuffin · 23/01/2019 23:21

This. You'd think no-one else had ever taken their dog for a bloody walk before. I feel bad for his ex who must feel like it's being rubbed in her face day after day. It'd be hard to keep your self control the whole time.

ITV are clearly desperate to rehabilitate him in the eyes of the public hence the joint nomination as per usual.

Faultymain5 · 23/01/2019 23:39

@HelenaDove sorry but an article saying how bad women have it with a photo of Kate Moss who I recall was forgiven pretty quickly (though she wasn't driving drunk or high, just looking after her dependents), whilst in a co-dependent relationship. Still managed to get back on top. I'm not sure why this is becoming a woman's issue. It's more to do with the fact that no-one should (ideally) be getting away with this behaviour, and there should indeed be genuine repercussions, not just six months worth of scrutiny

HelenaDove · 23/01/2019 23:41

Amy Winehouse hurt nobody but herself. And she was treated much worse by the press than Ant was.

HelenaDove · 23/01/2019 23:45

Agreed

MorningsEleven · 23/01/2019 23:45

I think the dog should have been nominated - he's more famous than either of them now.

Amanduh · 23/01/2019 23:49

These awards are all about congratulating luvvies for how amazing they all are, wonderful, oh look at us we’re so great with our massive knees up several times a year fawning over how great we all are.
He shodnt have won because he hasn’t presented anything. His private life is irrelevant, imagine taking oscars and grammys away from adulterers 😂 having said that, it is publically voted, so it’s the publics fault anyway!

Werkwerkwerkwerkwerk85 · 23/01/2019 23:59

It actually says in his interview with the Sun that he had been drinking that day before he got in the car!

BejamNostalgia · 24/01/2019 00:01

Imo he is a very clever man who knows exactly how to play the media.

I really don’t agree. Just look at this thread for evidence it’s not working. I think the whole thing has been handled appallingly from his first interview when he only admitted to having a drug problem, denied any drink problem and went on about how he was only stopping drinking for a short time and couldn’t wait for his next pint. I said on here at the time that he was obviously an alcoholic and his main concern in that interview was preparing the ground for him to continue drinking heavily and in public so he didn’t have to change his lifestyle and only get rid of the painkillers to get people off his back about the drinking. He still had a lot of sympathy then so I was told I was mean and there was no way I could tell that and there was no harm in him having a drink. Obviously he’s admitted it now, but people can go back and look at that interview and now they can see it’s just a manipulative man trying to con the public into thinking he’d reformed when he had no intention of doing that. They were stupid, him and his team, to do that and try and set up a situation where he could carry on drinking heavily by actively trying to deceive the public.

The divorce was awfully handled too, he wasn’t honest about it, he didn’t fess up that it was a codependent relationship based on addiction because he was still denying his alcoholism at the time. So that all blew back on him because he just looked callous, ditching the wife who had supported him through rehab according to what he’d been feeding the press up to that point - again, badly handled to try and hush up his booze problems. Lisa was incredibly upset and he treated that with disdain, even though he’d clearly hurt her terribly.

The new relationship has been terribly handled too. His people obviously thought staging photographs of the two of them doing wholesome things, looking smiley and contented, like going for walks with the dog and getting coffee or going for alcohol free meals with Dec and his pregnant wife would make people like him again and think he was wholesome and respectable. Instead it made them look callous, flaunting their happiness when Lisa was clearly still in pieces and didn’t need it shoving in her face. His people obviously leaned on the press to put pictures of Lisa looking bloated and badly dressed next to pictures of the chic, slim, healthy new woman. They obviously thought people would think ‘who could blame him’, but they didn’t, they thought how disloyal to dump a wife whose losing her looks. The meal with Dec and his wife just showed how easily the a-listers had moved on and slotted the new, more suitable for the a-list woman into her place without a moments thought for Lisa’s suffering at being replaced not just with him, but by friends and work contacts and the press too.

The return to work has been awfully handled too. He gave an interview trapping off about AA tattoos but he’s still minimising his drinking (‘I was dependent but I wasn’t drinking all the time’ bullshit), blaming his problems on depression rather than addiction, alluding to it all being Lisa’s fault for making him miserable. Going on about the crash in a really self pitying way, he was traumatised by it, it happened because he was struggling with mental health problems: like it was something done to him, not something he is responsible for. He said he only ‘kind of’ deserved to be punished for it, which is a cop out.

He also straight up lied, saying he was dealing with his booze issues already when we all know from his previous interview he wasn’t and was determined to carry on drinking. He even seems in some ways in that interview to be trying lay the groundwork for drinking again (‘I wasn’t really an alcoholic, I didn’t drink all the time.)

The whole thing has been a mess in the media from start to finish because they’ve tried to manipulate the situation and done it badly and exposed their own dishonesty several times.

Even that award - their official account was retweeting things about how much he deserved the award instead of having the good grace to admit it was a bit silly and embarrassing for him to get it.

I really can’t see him being on TV by this time next year. He’s going to fuck up again and his team are going to be incapable of handling it.

Faultymain5 · 24/01/2019 00:05

@HelenaDove, unless you worked with her or anyone like that in the industry you don't actually know that (unfortunately, I have a little insight there).

I totally believe everyone has a right to privacy but being he limelight I do actually beleive you have some responsibility. So her taking illegal substances with no consequences sends a message out to people that it's okay. It's not. But I'm quite straitlaced, so I can be wrong.

HelenaDove · 24/01/2019 00:11

@Faultymain5 Im teetotal and ive never been drunk.

Drugs have never interested me either. but i can see Ant has a massive PR machine behind him and Amy didnt.

HelenaDove · 24/01/2019 00:14

I didnt see his interview Bejam Youve made some excellent points in your post. I also noticed that the press seemed to print the worst photos of Lisa that they could find.

trumpdump · 24/01/2019 00:21

He did get Lisa fired from one of her ITV shows youth? Dick move.

GingerbreadBlob · 24/01/2019 00:22

Yes, it's ridiculous. ITV luvvies, back patting. They shouldn't have won.
