I don't watch all those odd programmes they present but the man

-cheated on his wife with his PA, now girlfriend, and she is quite obviously pregnant
-writes an article flaunting his love for his new girlfriend while still divorcing his wife
-caused a nasty accident and was subsequently convicted of drink driving

  • has not worked for a whole year

yet apparently won an award last night!

Others in the public eye who have done what he has done get vilified (look at Prince Philip's car accident!)

OP posts:
TheFairyCaravan · 23/01/2019 16:32

I’m very anti - drink drive but it’s not like he got massively drunk then straight in the car, it was from the night before.

He was more than twice the legal limit, ffs. It doesn't matter when he drank the alcohol he should not have driven that car

LagunaBubbles · 23/01/2019 16:34

They monopolise everything too. Give other people a shot and I'm sure they might have a chance of winning!

They only won because people voted for them which suggests a huge level of popularity.

SoupDragon · 23/01/2019 16:37

It doesn't matter when he drank the alcohol he should not have driven that car

No, he shouldn't. however, he has paid the price for that.

Villanelley · 23/01/2019 16:38

Rather him than that Willoughby irritant, she's fucking everywhere!

hopeishere · 23/01/2019 16:41

I agree.

Also the whole post show look how hungover we all are thing is annoying and inappropriate as well.

BartonHollow · 23/01/2019 16:42

I am and always have been under the impression that his marriage and the end of it is much more complex than the "he cheated" narrative. I think his comments about his girlfriend are probably accurate

I think he only cheated on a technicality in that they were separated but still legally married when the relationship began

In terms of the AIBU

Should they have won that award
Should they keep winning that award

NO

But it's votes for by the GBP so blame them

I don't watch the NTAs anymore

They are a bit laughable

You watch the Emmys and they are giving awards to Game Of Thrones And Handmaids Tale And real prestige television

The NTAs is giving awards to This Morning and The Chase etc

It's ITV giving itself a handjob basically, they aren't even credible awards so not worth getting het up over.

Oblomov19 · 23/01/2019 16:44

I don't understand. What is this award FOR? As pp said:He hasn't actually presented anything in the last year. Ridiculous. Mockery.

MacarenaFerreiro · 23/01/2019 16:44

Apart from all that, how can you win an award for a job which you haven't been doing for half the year?

Of course it's a joke. But it's an ITV backslapping fest where all their shows win. With an odd award chucked in for Strictly.

BejamNostalgia · 23/01/2019 16:47

It’s the voters. Blame them. Dec should have been nominated on his own though, it’s silly. His personal life is irrelevant to his job though.

SoupDragon · 23/01/2019 16:47

He hasn't actually presented anything in the last year.

Ha has though. He was working before the drink driving incident.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 23/01/2019 16:49

I gather it was for Saturday Night Takeaway which was at the beginning of 2018.

To be fair, I do think Dec could have been nominated on his own because they aren't actually one person!

IsItThatTimeAgain · 23/01/2019 16:49

Is he even still working? Would he have to actually have to murder someone to fall out of favour?

MrsJayy · 23/01/2019 16:50

David dimbleby got the well done you are still alive award and spoke about the Bbc and how great it was to work on the beeb all these years Grin

Clutterbugsmum · 23/01/2019 16:51

For whatever reason 'Joe Public' like Ant and Dec and will continue to vote for them until something better comes along. And that's why they won the award again.

And as for Ant marriage whether or not he cheated is neither here nor there but it is almost certain if he did not change his life then he would have ended up addict and drunk like Paul Gascoigne being picture more and more as his life fell apart.

But he took control and turned his life around and unfortunately his marriage was lost in the process.

CatnissEverdene · 23/01/2019 16:54

It does make you wonder how people can still "adore" an alcoholic drug addict who was prepared to get behind the wheel of a car and probably did on countless occasions before he got caught out.........

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/01/2019 17:10

It made me laugh just how quickly he became fit for work when Holly Willoughby was such a success in the jungle. So I’m told anyway as I never watch the dross. I’ve never really understood the cult that is Ant & Dec anyway. I mean, what do they actually do?

Maryjoyce · 23/01/2019 17:12

Not exactly a good example to anyone yet they award him lol such a joke as always the tv

Baby1onboard11 · 23/01/2019 17:15

@thefairycaravan - the point I was making is that he and his mum didn’t know he was drunk. You can be a fully functioning alcoholic and appear perfectly able due to the dependency which was probably the case with him. It does not take much to be over the limit. If you got heavily drunk the night before, you may genuinely not know you’re still over the next morning! I bet there’s a lot of drunk drivers on the road on 1st January who have no idea that’s the case

MrsJayy · 23/01/2019 17:16

I love people who don't know Ant & Dec they lurk know every detail bit of gossip would never watch the dross they make Grin

brizzledrizzle · 23/01/2019 17:29

Maybe it's Dec's way of showing he is standing by his work partner? He's proved he's more than capable of doing it on his own but they've been friends since they were children and that could actually mean something to him?

Grosserygangrule · 23/01/2019 17:32

He drunk drove which is appalling but it's clear he and his life was a total mess mental health issue, addiction and depression. No one makes good decisions under those circumstances, he got himself well and turned it around. He shouldn't have to constantly apologise. He's done that, move forward.

Namechangeforthegamechange · 23/01/2019 17:33

I think YABU. Ant and Dec are a brand. Dec carried the brand whilst Ant was taking time out to get well. Addicition is an illness. Why drag up bullshit about his private life as well? Drink driving is the lowest of the low, he got caught and punished, I will bet my life hundreds of mumsnetters so it on a weekly basis, oh I’ve only had two glasses I’ll drive home bollocks.

floribunda18 · 23/01/2019 17:34

Why? You sound bitter. Did you vote?

This is voted for by the general public who obviously think they are the best presenters. Get over it.

floribunda18 · 23/01/2019 17:36

The NTAs is giving awards to This Morning and The Chase etc

Plus a number to The Bodyguard which was on BBC1.

herethereandeverywhere · 23/01/2019 17:45

From the country that voted for Brexit? Nah, makes total sense...
