to think that Ant McPartlin winning a TV award is the height of piss taking?

I don't watch all those odd programmes they present but the man

-cheated on his wife with his PA, now girlfriend, and she is quite obviously pregnant
-writes an article flaunting his love for his new girlfriend while still divorcing his wife
-caused a nasty accident and was subsequently convicted of drink driving

  • has not worked for a whole year

yet apparently won an award last night!

Others in the public eye who have done what he has done get vilified (look at Prince Philip's car accident!)

“It makes a mockery of these types of TV awards”

They are inherently a bloody mockery, who even cares?!

Anapurna · 23/01/2019 16:13

Should be Dec and Holly from now on.

Saturday Night Takeaway was aired early last year just before the drink driving incident wasn't it? And that's what they showed a clip of during their nomination video.

Not that I agree they should've won, but just pointing out that he was eligible.

greenpop21 · 23/01/2019 16:14

Award should have gone to Dec only.

greenpop21 · 23/01/2019 16:16

smokes like a navvy and drinks like one too. And OMG she walks like a man

Her choice and so long as she doesn't try to drive drunk or smoke around others, she can do what she likes!

TheFairyCaravan · 23/01/2019 16:16

I don't think he should have been in the category in the first place. I disagree that causing an accident while drunk is nothing to do with work. It certainly is in a lot of cases and when you're in the public eye and you're behaviour is deemed so bad that you need 9 months off work then yes, it should have an impact on whether or not you're giving awards for said work.

Imo it was a huge kick in a teeth for the family who he crashed into

Bluestitch · 23/01/2019 16:16

Lisa doesn't have to be 'all sweetness and light'. Women don't have to be perfect to have been treated badly, and her lack of perfection doesn't absolve him of drink driving. But she seems very well liked on Strictly.

Faultymain5 · 23/01/2019 16:16

To be fair I do recall, no-one seemed to mind Amy Winehouse's druggy behaviour. She was as popular as ever rightup to her death. But that was a very bad example that she flaunted in front of everybody, as though it was an acceptable lifestyle choice.

If I was the judgmental type, he would not be an acceptaable human to be around, however, I've never found Ant nor Dec amusing, and they do not fill my family's viewing time.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 23/01/2019 16:19

The whole hing is tedious. They may as well just hand out the gongs and forget about the night out. Same old, same old.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 23/01/2019 16:19

And OMG she walks like a man

Yer what?!

WhatwouldCJdo · 23/01/2019 16:21

@MawkishTwaddle - do tell about ill fated science lab experience (and then will award you suitable prize)

And ooh yes I would vote for Victoria Coren-Mitchell and for the person responsible for her wardrobe. Some gorgeous prints and outfits.

I didn't watch it but heard on the news this morning Ant had won. Very impressed cos all I thought he'd done is walk his dog in the park for 12 months wearing a cap being photographed by the Daily Fucker. But maybe the last year had been a dream.

ManicUnicorn · 23/01/2019 16:21

2k19 unless you know Lisa personally, that post is nasty and uncalled for. And actually she seems very well liked by all on Strictly, so I'm calling bollocks on your part.

SoupDragon · 23/01/2019 16:21

he could have stood back and said Dec deserves this award etc

As has been pointed out, he did exactly that.

His girlfriend has been "obviously pregnant" since they were first pictured together.

Baby1onboard11 · 23/01/2019 16:22

Unpopular opinion alert but It should have been Dec alone but I do feel ever so slightly sorry for Ant. I’m very anti - drink drive but it’s not like he got massively drunk then straight in the car, it was from the night before. His mum was in the car so I would imagine he and his mum couldn’t even tell he was drunk, she wouldn’t have let him drive - perhaps that dependent on the alcohol you couldn’t tell!! I’m sure many people have unknowingly drunk drove the next day

I also can’t see why everyone loves his ex wife. I’m sure she must be very hurt but she does need to move on with some dignity and stop the slandering, it’s embarrassing. Whether deserved or not!

I voted for ant and dec to win because just Dec wasn’t an option and he deserved the recognition for his hard work.

What makes you think his new partner is pregnant?

ThunderStorms · 23/01/2019 16:22

Agree.

But now it’s done, let’s hope he uses this and his award to help others. Let him make it well and truly deserved by what he does next. He could help a lot of people.

CallMeRachel · 23/01/2019 16:23

Yabu, and incredibly judgmental.

It's very obvious that Ant has suffered some kind of mental health crisis and has been battling addictions along with previously undiagnosed ADHD. He's a human being.

He's still a TV presenter ffs, just because he's had to step out the limelight this year doesn't change that. Many people love Ant & Dec and want to see them do well.

All the crap with his wife is none of anyone else's business and has absolutely nothing to do with his eligibility to win any award.

The drink driving was bad, but he was punished and has got treatment, he was ill.

OnlineAlienator · 23/01/2019 16:26

YANBU.

Bluestitch · 23/01/2019 16:26

I'm very anti - drink drive but it’s not like he got massively drunk then straight in the car, it was from the night before

Is that definitely true? He looked pissed at the scene and his lawyer even said it was a relapse of alcohol issues.

PuppyMonkey · 23/01/2019 16:26

Didn’t he also do some presenting on BGT last year too? The auditions?

The NTAs aren’t serious awards anyway, the public votes for them. And we all know what happens when you let the British public vote for things.Grin

MrsJayy · 23/01/2019 16:26

It baffled me them winning dec has been carrying on most of the year on his own maybe it was a sympathy win Hmm i don't think his divorce should have any clout though people get divorced all the time

MrsJayy · 23/01/2019 16:29

I think his ex wife needs to stay off twitter her having shots at him is really cringy and Ant now seems to be hitting back at her through the media.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 23/01/2019 16:30

she as a reputation as a stroppy coworker and smokes like a navvy and drinks like one too. And OMG she walks like a man

And that makes it ok for him to cheat and treat her revoltingly?

I don't think he deserved it. Anyone choosing to drink and drive needs a fucking kick in the arsehole not accolades, however pointless they might be. And I know, alcoholism is an illness. But getting behind the wheel of a car whilst drunk is a decision, not part of the illness, and needs to be recognised as a conscious choice made by a selfish, shitty person.

FrontRowSeat · 23/01/2019 16:31

He didn’t cheat on his wife. The new relationship was established after the separation. The whole addiction thing came about as a result of a botched knee operation so I have sympathy there. And he DID immediately give the award straight over to Dec and praised his hard work etc. How many times does Ant have to pay his mistake? He’s just trying to sort out his life and get back to work. Give the guy a break.

Stinkytoe · 23/01/2019 16:32

The stuff in his private life re the ex wife and new girlfriend has put me right off him to the extent I won’t watch him anymore but it shouldn’t really affect his career.

The drink driving should have taken him off air though. If I was convinced of drink driving I’d lose my job and my professional qualification. I don’t see why he should be allowed to carry on regardless.
