to think that Ant McPartlin winning a TV award is the height of piss taking?

I don't watch all those odd programmes they present but the man

-cheated on his wife with his PA, now girlfriend, and she is quite obviously pregnant
-writes an article flaunting his love for his new girlfriend while still divorcing his wife
-caused a nasty accident and was subsequently convicted of drink driving

  • has not worked for a whole year

yet apparently won an award last night!

Others in the public eye who have done what he has done get vilified (look at Prince Philip's car accident!)

Yep, it takes the piss .
It’s all bollocks anyway really...

LincolnOceanVictorEdward · 23/01/2019 15:47

Do you know for certain that he cheated on his wife with his PA and that she is now pregnant? In any case what has that got to do with the award? Your OP seems rather nasty to me.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 23/01/2019 15:48

It's a people vote - people obviouly like him/them.

Im not sure leaving yoru wife THEN starting a new relationship 4 months later is 'adultery' other than they were technically married as no decree nisi/absolute had been issued even though divorce proceedings were under way.

Everybody always knows someone that knows, a little inside info, a little story. The ex wife drank far more than he ever did, you only have to look at the the drink bloat to know thats true.

- has not worked for a whole year

BTW he was working behind the scenes from October time going forward through IACGMOOH, he was scripting with Dec for Holly

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 23/01/2019 15:49

I hate that he was nominated as he hasn't done any of the work!

I couldn't give a toss what he does in his personal life, that's for him to mess up himself, but to be nominated for an award based on A) his friends time and effort and B) alongside those who have worked all year is just appalling of the NTA board.

There are a lot of people who would have voted for them because if not, Dec would have gone without and after the year he has had trying to hold on to their contracts, save their damaged reputation and keep on going, he deserved the award and recognition.

From now on, they should be nominated separately, all presenters should be.

derxa · 23/01/2019 15:51

The awards are voted for by the public so there's your answer.

lazyarse123 · 23/01/2019 15:51

Can't bear either of them. But I don't understand why his ex wife keeps Moaning she kicked him out first. There is no escaping these people.

DerelictWreck · 23/01/2019 15:53

Has nothing to do with the award or his work

-writes an article flaunting his love for his new girlfriend while still divorcing his wife

Incorrect hasn't worked since March but yes agree it's a pisstake that he can win with barely working at all in the time period
DonCorleoneTheThird · 23/01/2019 15:53

completely irrelevant. It's his wife who decided to go very public with the whole thing, who cares, it's their own private business.

The drink driving is much more of an issue, and for that I agree he should be made to keep a low profile. Sadly, people like C.Jenner and S. WIlliams don't keep a low profile either - no one has pretended that alcohol was involved, but the consequences were far worst.

loobyloo1234 · 23/01/2019 15:54

Cheated? Been reading the DM by any chance?

Agree he shouldn't have won but not for most of the reasons you have given

2K19 · 23/01/2019 15:54

He presented Saturday Night Takeaway in 2018
He had addiction issues around alcohol but clearly so had his wife
The marriage was clearly over
Likely to be torn apart with fertility issues :-(
He grew close to his PA. Not the first person to have a relationship that starts in the office, certainly not the last
The girlfriend is not pregnant

Sparklingbrook · 23/01/2019 15:55

The Daily Mail are obsessed with him and are forever stalking his we wife and her social media.

I wouldn't believe much of it.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 23/01/2019 15:57

He had to get an injunction out against his ex wife - shes not all sweetness and light. Quite the opposite.

LizzieSiddal · 23/01/2019 15:58

This is what happens when we allow the general public to vote on stuff.

We get batshit decisions. Brexit

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 23/01/2019 15:58

I also think he was a bad friend in accepting the nomination in the first place! He could have stepped back and said "look, Dec held this all together and he should be nominated"

He only bothered doing that one they BOTH had won.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 23/01/2019 16:00

writes an article flaunting his love for his new girlfriend while still divorcing his wife

He's made one statement about his life - this week - which referred to his new partner. The divorce was sooooo last year

DaffoDeffo · 23/01/2019 16:02

yes I thought that - that he could have stood back and said Dec deserves this award etc.!

OP posts:
derxa · 23/01/2019 16:02

This is what happens when we allow the general public to vote on stuff. You get a popular decision. I can but wonder who would win 'Best Presenter' if only MN were allowed to vote. Probably Victoria Coren-Mitchell

Eliza9917 · 23/01/2019 16:03

Why was Ant nominated if he hasn't worked in a year?

I don't watch live tv and don't watch their programmes either so haven't seen any of this.

derxa · 23/01/2019 16:03

that he could have stood back and said Dec deserves this award etc.! That's what he did.

honeyrider · 23/01/2019 16:04

Ant has rejected the award.

CarolDanvers · 23/01/2019 16:04

Agree OP. Beggars belief. Poor old Ant, too stressed, sad and tired to work until he saw how well Holly Willoughby did on IACGMOOH and suddenly started worrying that yes, he could actually be replaced easily enough so made a miraculous recovery and muscled back in just in time for awards season Hmm

Mookatron · 23/01/2019 16:05

I don't generally care about all this kind of stuff but the fawning over whichever out of Ant and Dec it is when he was convicted of drink driving and injured a small child really pisses me off.

Fine, people should be allowed to be rehabilitated. But turning him into a 'hero who came through it all' is maddening - especially when TV women are replaced for things like daring to get older.

DaffoDeffo · 23/01/2019 16:08

yes I thought that he could have stepped back and let Dec take the award

the only reason I mention the other factors is that other TV people have got sacked for crimes (mainly thinking about the drink driving, I agree the other stuff is gossip) - noel fielding was sacked when he was on never mind the buzzcocks for a drug charge, aled jones and the innappropriate texts 10 years ago, I seem to remember, I'm sure there were a few others - in general, people have been pretty forgiving with Ant.

and I do think she's pregnant btw (though again, that is just gossip)

What has his personal life got to do with awards for his career? When people at your work get recognised for achievement, do you go and delve into their personal life and say - oh no, they can’t have the award, they had an affair with so and so from accounts?

Also, I think you will find that Ant actually said that he wasn’t accepting the award, and that it was for Dec only.
