To have a song that makes me weep for no reason

But for every reason! We all have a song that just gets to you, mine is Joni Mitchell's 'Both sides now' m.youtube.com/watch?v=aCnf46boC3I
So bitter sweet, reminds me of really sad times and really, really happy times too. What are your bitter sweet songs?

Sand and water by Beth Neilsen Chapman. Sung at my DH's funeral by my son's godmother. My son grows to look more like his Dad all the time. Particularly the line "And his laughter fills my world, and wears your smile." My DS was 11 when DH died almost 11 years ago. I still listen to that song when feeling sad and in need of a cathartic weep.

Squeeze - some fantastic place. It was the soundtrack to me losing a very dear friend when it came out and I always think of her short life, the fun we shared, and how she suffered when I hear it now.

brizzledrizzle · 20/01/2019 00:03

Slipping through my fingers was on the radio in the car when I was on the way home from taking dd to university for the first time. I won't listen to it now.

No idea who sings it but there's a song on a spotify playlist that sends me off booing even though it's a cheerful, happy song - "Stay, stay, stay, I've been loving you for quite some time, time, time...no-one else is gonna love me when i get mad, mad, mad, so i think that its best if we both stay."

It makes me think of my DH and that we've been together for 20 years and there are marriage break ups all around us and how devastated I'd be if he ever left me. So yeah, that one has me snotting on my own in the car.

Oh, plus most haunting stuff by Embrace.

Holy shit, I just found slipping through my fingers on you tube. Made me fill up straight away! I have no children but a dear friend lost a daughter.

whoischerylsstylist · 20/01/2019 01:09

This thread is the basis of an excellent depressing playlist on Spotify

Thanks "Bringiton* - I thought it was odd that I wouldn't have recognised that as Taylor Swift, so I've just checked and I seem to have a version by Lisa McHugh! It's a country song, I likes me a bit of country.

Elephantina · 20/01/2019 09:22

Whoops bold fail. I meant Bringiton

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/01/2019 11:58

Adele, Make You Feel My Love
In buckets every time

The Nick Knowles version makes me cry too, but not for the same reasons Grin

littlemissmanchet · 20/01/2019 12:14

An embarrassing admission here, but for some reason ‘Fields of Gold’ does it every time - worse: Sting’s version

You and me both!

Zoeputthatdown · 20/01/2019 12:35

"What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, oh dear there I go.
Kate Bush "Cloudbusting" - feel a real pang.

Obviously it is a sad song, so doesn't count, but can't bear hearing "Goodbye To Love" by the Carpenters, have to switch that off fast.

LoisEinhorn · 20/01/2019 13:07

Supermarket Flower and Softly As I Leave You by Matt Munroe. Both played at my mums funeral.
