But for every reason! We all have a song that just gets to you, mine is Joni Mitchell's 'Both sides now' m.youtube.com/watch?v=aCnf46boC3I
So bitter sweet, reminds me of really sad times and really, really happy times too. What are your bitter sweet songs?

Johnny Cash- Hurt
Sarah McLauchlan - Angel

crosser62 · 19/01/2019 14:17

Us against the world by Coldplay.
For me the words symbolise miscarriage and infertility, us against the world is me talking to my longed for precious and miracle baby.
It absolutely breaks me.

Baby Shark Grin

Little wonders by Rob Thomas. Every time I watch Disney's Meet the Robinson I'm a blubbering wreck! The first time I watched it was very shortly after we'd nearly lost ds (15 months) to Meningitis. When the song came on at the end I just couldn't hold it together, and it still moves me to tears 5 years later!

iklboo · 19/01/2019 14:26

Wires by Athlete. I was pregnant with DS when it came out and I couldn't listen to it when it was on the radio. Still gives me goosebumps.

mytieisascarf · 19/01/2019 14:29

Thank you For the Days by Kirsty McColl. Such a bittersweet song.

mytieisascarf · 19/01/2019 14:31

Oh and Good Grief by Bastille

everloving · 19/01/2019 14:38

Sia - Breathe Me Sad gets me every time

Moby - Everloving ... just beautiful

MesM · 19/01/2019 14:42

U2’s Stuck in a Moment.

I was miserable, living abroad in my early 20s. I spoke to my mum on the phone and this was playing when I bought my ticket home. Comes up on shuffle at significant moments too.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 19/01/2019 14:47

Evanescence, my immortal.

Bluestitch · 19/01/2019 14:49

The Green Fields Of France- The Fureys version. I never get desensitized to it, could listen to it ten times in a row and still burst into tears each time.

Hidingtonothing · 19/01/2019 14:49

Wires by Athlete and All We Do by Oh Wonder both make me snotty-sob for no reason.

Bereft76 · 19/01/2019 14:58

In The Bleak Midwinter

I weep at Belfast Child by Simple Minds. Stops me in my tracks. Absolutely adore that song with all of my being. Also some of the Queen songs recorded when Freddie was gravely ill. There is something haunting about The Show Must Go On and Who Wants to Live Forever. Shivers.

Gotta say that Jacques Brel's Ne Me Quitte Pas never fails to make me well up, especially the live version from the Olympia in Paris. And on her last tour Camille O'Sullivan did a rendition of Jacques Brel's Amsterdam which made me well up.

And as I am typing I have remembered Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel. That one tends to get me too.

Plenty of other songs no one here would know (or would out me).

Ballbags · 19/01/2019 15:11

Johnny Cash - Hurt
Kate Bush - Woman's Work. So good.
Power of Love - Frankie goes to Hollywood

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 19/01/2019 15:33

Piece by Piece (Idol version) by Kelly clarkson. It’s about her dad leaving when she was a child and she sings about how her daughter will never have to worry about not being loved because she will always put her first.

I had a lovely dad so don’t relate to it at all but it gets me every time!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 19/01/2019 15:38

Nana was a Suffragette. Not at all sure why but never fails to make me a bit sniffy.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 19/01/2019 15:40

Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
We are the Champions - Queen
Perfect Day - Lou Reed

PippilottaLongstocking · 19/01/2019 15:44

Nick Cave - I Need You
The album the song is from was released after his teenage son died, so it’s particularly heartbreaking

TopBitchoftheWitches · 19/01/2019 15:57

Don't cry, guns n' roses. Funny in a way. Smile

I just watched part of a documentary about Freddie Mercury and these are the days. So very very sad.

He was a legend.

Justwaitingforaline · 19/01/2019 16:02

George Ezra - Hold my girl

I saw him in Wembley late last year and sobbed my way through it

TopBitchoftheWitches · 19/01/2019 16:10

I had my earliest baby at 32 weeks so Wires makes sense to me. Plus my boy was born on Xmas day so it hits home even more.

CowesTwo · 19/01/2019 17:27

When She Loved me (Jessie's song) from Toy Story 2.

CornishYarg · 19/01/2019 17:27

Sand and Water by Beth Nielsen Chapman - it kills me every time

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 19/01/2019 18:03

Also, Peter from Daughter from Tales from Shop Session. It draws parallels between Tinkerbelles love for Peter Pan to the love for the singer/songwriters) first love which turns out to be toxic partner.

A brilliantly written song, with vivid, heartfelt imagery. Beautifully haunting. Bittersweet melancholy. Just damn good writing.
