But for every reason! We all have a song that just gets to you, mine is Joni Mitchell's 'Both sides now' m.youtube.com/watch?v=aCnf46boC3I
So bitter sweet, reminds me of really sad times and really, really happy times too. What are your bitter sweet songs?

I’m not a fan of Coldplay generally, but “Fix you” always brings me close to tears, but that is probably because it reminds me of someone.

To answer the question, I would have to say “big ones get away” by Buffy Sainte Marie. Can’t explain why

Flyingfish2019 · 18/01/2019 23:31

Old money by Lana del Rey (but only sometimes)... and i do not even know what this song is all about. I guess because the tune is so sad.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 18/01/2019 23:32

Oh and Starry Starry Night by Don McLean gets me every time. "This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you" waaahhhhhh Sad

U2HasTheEdge · 18/01/2019 23:37

The Final Countdown. But not in a good way.

I don't know what it is, but the song makes me feel instantly really dark and scared. It's so hard to explain. I feel like something should have happened when that song was played in the past to make me react that way, but as far as I remember there is nothing.

I cry at loads of songs because they move me or bring back memories, but The Final Countdown makes me cry because how dark I feel.

ninalovesdragons · 18/01/2019 23:38

Vincent - don mclean for reminding me of university

I'll follow you into the dark - death cab for cutie for all those emotional times as a teen

Radiohead, True Love Waits. Just don't leave, don't leave. John Martyn, Ways to Cry.

godeeva · 18/01/2019 23:45

Michael Bolton's how am I supposed to live without you. Lord of the rings soundtrack silences me every time. Many Indian ghazals as well

hatethinkingofusernames · 18/01/2019 23:47

Fight song by Rachel Pitman. I was living hours away from home and had a job I hated but couldn't leave, the bit where it says it's been 2 years I miss my home. It still makes me cry today and I've moved way closer to home 😂 but it used to gear me up for the day ahead and was My Fight Song 👊🏻👊🏻

RestingButchFace · 18/01/2019 23:48

My song is Wouldn't it be nice by the Beach Boys. No idea why but gets me very time. I have another which is Cannonball by Damien Rice.

cheesenpickles · 18/01/2019 23:48

@HourglassTigger I sobbed like anything first time I heard White Wine in the Sun, i love it.

cheesenpickles · 18/01/2019 23:50

Oh, and Pictures of you - the Cure, The Smiths - There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, The Doors - The End and Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart (the opening bars always catch me)

cheesenpickles · 18/01/2019 23:51

And Kings of Leon - Use Somebody,,,

I cry A LOT

PavlovianLunge · 18/01/2019 23:52

Have people mentioning Seasons in the Sun heard the original? It’s Le Moribond sung by Jacques Brel, and is very different, quite jaunty.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=MB58PuNYO8o

I don’t have a crying song, but Bridge Over Troubled Water always gives me physical chills... I’m sailing right behind... beautifully performed, and a lovely image.

And yes to Hurt, Johnny Cash seems to put everything into it, and knowing how soon after that he died, it’s just so powerful.

GoGoGadgetGin · 18/01/2019 23:54

Never is a long time- Roxette
Small bump by Ed Sheeran - the opening bars reduce me to a mess
And as many pp Baby of Mine Dumbo

TheCowboy · 18/01/2019 23:55

Nimrod, and Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana. Can barely get past the first bars of either before I'm sobbing.

thenightsky · 18/01/2019 23:56
