To have a song that makes me weep for no reason

But for every reason! We all have a song that just gets to you, mine is Joni Mitchell's 'Both sides now' m.youtube.com/watch?v=aCnf46boC3I
So bitter sweet, reminds me of really sad times and really, really happy times too. What are your bitter sweet songs?

'Vincent' by Don McLean.

almutasakieun · 18/01/2019 22:49

And this one used to make me cry when I was a kid (because I was very much Daddy's girl).

CloserIAm2Fine · 18/01/2019 22:49

If you fall - JJ Heller

All I ask - Adele “it matters how this ends, cause what if I never love again?”

Black and Blue - counting crows

Say something I’m giving up on you - Sam redden

Full of grace - Sarah McLaughlin

They don’t make me cry every time but all have made me bawl at one point!

Jsmith99 · 18/01/2019 22:54

I don’t cry about songs, but if I did Johnny Cash’s Hurt would probably set me off. He recorded it a few months before he died, and the video shows us Cash as a frail old man with his wife by his side. She died shortly after filming it.

almutasakieun · 18/01/2019 22:56

I know Daddy's Girl will have the feminists bleating, but I'm still Daddy's girl. At the ripe old age of 39. And he loved her even though she was a girl. I'm actually bawling now. Christ I need to get a life.

Sia-breathe me

Harveyrabbit76 · 18/01/2019 23:00

Love child by the Supremes. Or power of love by Frankie

AngelontopoftheTree · 18/01/2019 23:01

Eric Clapton's song about his son who died, Tears in Heaven. 😢
Also a song called The Christmas Shoes, I think, about a boy buying some shoes for his mother on Christmas Eve. Saddest song ever!

AngelontopoftheTree · 18/01/2019 23:02

Should say buying shoes for his dying mother!

Thehop · 18/01/2019 23:03

I cry at everything my children sing at school. All I see is my little babies and how they’ll soon be men

And anything that makes me think of my dad. 😭

thenightsky · 18/01/2019 23:05

KnockMeDown God yes... Seasons in the Sun takes me back to my first love in school in the 70s.

Today I got teary eyed whilst driving, so much so I had to stop, when When We Were Young by Adele came on the radio. I've recently retired and it just hit me how much of my life is now in the past. Sad

Nobody's Diary

HourglassTigger · 18/01/2019 23:05

White Wine in the Sun (Tim Minchin) - Big heaving convulsions.

But the 'for no reason' sobsong; the one that mystifies, why do my eyes spontaneously leak so much I have to pull over the car whenever the extended version of American Pie comes on the radio. American Pie - Why cry?

Bellaboo9 · 18/01/2019 23:06

Moon river, every time I hear it. Doesn't help that my mum recently told me my late Nana used to listen to it when she was getting ready for a night out 😭

JaneJeffer · 18/01/2019 23:06

Runaways by The Killers

PinkOboe · 18/01/2019 23:06

505 arctic monkeys

LittleCandle · 18/01/2019 23:07

Slipping Through My Fingers and Wind Beneath My Wings.

But to be honest, if I am in that kind of mood any song can make me cry.

Maverick66 · 18/01/2019 23:09

Sound of Silence S&G or The Disturbed's version.
Thank you for the Days Kirsty McColl
Oh Holy Night

StressedToTheMaxx · 18/01/2019 23:11

TwirlyWitch · 18/01/2019 23:15

Sound of silence: especially the live version by Paul Simon he did at the 9/11 memorial

Letter to a John
By Ani DiFranco

Don't ask me why I'm crying,
I'm not going to tell you what's wrong.
I'm just gonna sit on your lap,
For five dollars a song.

I want you to pay me for my beauty,
I think it's only right.
'cause I have been paying for it,
All of my life

I was eleven years old,
He was as old as my dad.
And he took something from me,
I didn't even know that I had.

So don't tell me about decency,
Don't tell me about pride
Just give me something for my trouble
'cause this time, it's not a free ride

;-(

catitude · 18/01/2019 23:27

Witchita Lineman by Glen Campbell gets me everytime. "And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time."

TheSmallAssassin · 18/01/2019 23:28

The One by Shakira came up on shuffle the other day and it made me cry at my desk. Bizarre.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 18/01/2019 23:30

Baby Mine from Dumbo
Slipping Through My Fingers and Andante Andante by ABBA
the hymn How Great Thou Art - can't get through it without crying. My nan's favourite.
Anything from the DDs' school that they sing. Children singing just gets me.
