To think that not many people have traditional Sunday roast anymore?

When I was a younger we literally had a roast dinner every Sunday and having something different was never an option. The roast was usually at my grandmas house and always followed by salad for tea.

So after preparing my meatloaf and jacket potatoes for tonight’s tea I was just wondering how many people still have a roast on sundays? Or did you have other food related traditions that you still follow now?

Just curious Smile

We've got one on the go now. We don't do it every Sunday, but most. Bloody love it. Mainly because DH cooks and I get to sit on my arse watching films with the DC Grin

pippop1317 · 13/01/2019 13:39

We have a roast every Sunday! It wouldn't be Sunday without one.

aconcertpianist · 13/01/2019 13:39

We usually have a roast of some kind and besides, the cat expects it!

We did when the kids still lived here and my mum was alive, but on sunday evening. Now we do as and when but it’s a bit sad when there are just the two of us. Still one of my favourite meals to eat and cook.

Fantababy · 13/01/2019 13:40

We do it sometimes. Maybe 1 in 4. I like it because DH takes most of the responsibility for it so I can put my feet up. Also, leftovers.

ScreamingValenta · 13/01/2019 13:41

We usually do. It's pork today. There are only two of us so there'll be leftovers for tomorrow, too.

agedknees · 13/01/2019 13:41

Agree with pp. our dog always expects a roast dinner on Sunday. He would pack his bag and go back to dogs trust if he didn’t get one.

scaryteacher · 13/01/2019 13:41

Having one tonight, as I've been back to the UK and picked up a nice joint whilst there.

We have a roast every other week, I would do so every week but it seems a little boring (cannot afford lamb, cannot eat pork, so we are simply alternating chicken and beef ... it gets a bit samey). Best thing about a roast is the fun of making something with leftovers!

User10fuckingmillion · 13/01/2019 13:43

We do at home. I’m back at uni at the moment and it’s roast-less here for practical reasons Sad

OneStepMoreFun · 13/01/2019 13:43

We do it about 50% of the time or more. Having roast chicken today. But never at lunchtime. We eat in the evening.

Gloopy · 13/01/2019 13:43

We have one nearly every Sunday. Today it's pork, mash, broccoli, carrots peas and cabbage, and Yorkshire puds! I'm cooking for 7 today... Lol.

Phillipa12 · 13/01/2019 13:43

Just had one, we try and have one once a month, i cook it for lunch, the boys spend the day in their onsies and i after its cleared up can relax for the rest of the day knowing that the dc are only having toast and fruit for tea!

9 times out of 10 we have a roast on Sunday. Either at home or at a pub somewhere.

Pachyderm1 · 13/01/2019 13:45

We don’t. I don’t eat meat any more and since I cook, roasts are out Grin we do have a nice meal together every Sunday though - it’s just different food each time.

cheesenpickles · 13/01/2019 13:45

We have them infrequently. If it were up to my husband it would be weekly, and he is the one that cooks it. We've got very young and fussy kids and erratic work schedules so it's just not feasible.

dementedpixie · 13/01/2019 13:45

We have one every 3 weeks or so. We have it at dinner time (6ish)

ScreamingValenta · 13/01/2019 13:46

do you stay in to cook it and what time do you eat it?

Yes, and normally eat at about 7:30.

daisypond · 13/01/2019 13:46

No, hardly ever. Meat is expensive so we might only have a roast dinner a handful of times a year.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 13/01/2019 13:47

GoldenEvilHour are you in a very strict religious home? I grew up in quite a strict Christian household and we always had a roast every Sunday, to the point I actually linked it with being something that all Christians did! Underlined by the fact that when we went to other people from church's houses for Sunday lunch they all had roasts as well!! Took me years to realise you could be a Christian and not eat a roast dinner on a Sunday Grin

2019Reasons · 13/01/2019 13:47

We have some sort of roast most Sunday’s, but for dinner not lunch. I’m making roast chicken in a bit, actually.

I remember waking up on a Sunday morning to the smell of my mum’s, served at 1pm - and yes, ‘salad’ for tea. Usually cold roast meat leftovers with iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomato & salad cream and a slice of bread Grin.

Sugarformyhoney · 13/01/2019 13:47

We don’t- maybe one every 6 weeks. I cba spending Sunday cooking but we do have some sort of family meal every Sunday
