To think that not many people have traditional Sunday roast anymore?

When I was a younger we literally had a roast dinner every Sunday and having something different was never an option. The roast was usually at my grandmas house and always followed by salad for tea.

So after preparing my meatloaf and jacket potatoes for tonight’s tea I was just wondering how many people still have a roast on sundays? Or did you have other food related traditions that you still follow now?

Just curious Smile

No and I miss it! There's only me and dd and she has no appetite so it's too expensive to waste. We go for a carvery occasionally instead.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/01/2019 15:22

We used to, but now we all go to an exercise class on a Sunday at 4, which puts the kibosh on things that take a long time to cook. DH doesn’t like going out and leaving the oven on. So if we have roasts now they’re usually on a Saturday.

Felicia3 · 13/01/2019 15:23

Rarely have a proper roast. Only have one cheat day a week and roast is not my go to for a cheat meal.

namechanger2019 · 13/01/2019 15:23

We have one most weeks usually more like 5pm than lunch though.

ShesABelter · 13/01/2019 15:24

We do a couple of times a month but not every week. Would get bored of we did.

Thewifipasswordis · 13/01/2019 15:25

1 in 4 maybe. Cant be arsed with the smell of grease from roast potatos any more often than that 😬

GOTBackThisYear · 13/01/2019 15:26

DH works 7 shifts spread unevenly over 14 days so he's not always here on a Sunday so we just have roast dinners on whatever day we fancy them. If on some random Tuesday we fancy it, I'll pick up a beef joint or a chicken.

purpleleotard · 13/01/2019 15:27

Never
Now vegetarian but when the children where younger a sunday meal was a take away curry after a day out, so not then either.
More to do on a together family day than sit down and wait for a big meal in the middle of the day.

Never in the summer

Couple of times a month in the winter

As pp said, cat expects it and we mustn't disappoint him!

Roast chicken today with honeyed parsnips & carrots, roast potatoes, Yorkshires, broccoli & peas
Homemade black currant pie and custard

I live with a family of non meat eaters so I don't get a Sunday roast as often as I would like, apart from the fact that we are rarely in the house at the same time these days.

blueskiesandforests · 13/01/2019 15:28

My mum used to do a roast every Sunday but always got very stressed and flustered over it because she tried to cook it around going to church, meaning she timed the chicken for lunch time by putting it in before church but couldn't prepare the sides because she was at church so the chicken fried out, the meal was late, nobody was allowed to snack, everyone was ravenous and bolted the food, she wailed and cried about ingratitude and the time she'd spent. As a pragmatic but insensitive teen I suggested we'd all be equally happy making ourselves cheese on toast - it did not go down well...

WorraLiberty · 13/01/2019 15:30

DH cooks a roast every single Sunday without fail

It's my favourite meal of the week.

MrsDesireeCarthorse · 13/01/2019 15:36

Most Sundays at about 3pm after being outside most of the day Today I made koulibiac and treacle tart though

blueskiesandforests · 13/01/2019 15:36

I make pot roasts often, not with any reference to whether it's Sunday. In fact Sundays all 3 kids often have different sports fixtures meaning they are the one day of the week we are unlikely to eat a meal together.

ladybee28 · 13/01/2019 15:36

No roasts here, but we do have a tradition of Sunday morning pancakes when DSS is home EOW.

For those of you who DO do roasts every week, is that something you had in your own families growing up, or did you start it yourself?

Jaxtellerswife · 13/01/2019 15:38

Just started doing them every Sunday as a recent thing. I like the tradition of it

StartedEarly · 13/01/2019 15:40

DC would leave home if I didn't do Sunday dinner. Oh wait, they have left home Grin. When home from uni however, even vegetarian DD insists on Sunday roast. I just substitute but roasts and veg gravy on hers.

Easterbuns1 · 13/01/2019 15:40

I love a roast. My mum used to make amazing roasts every Sunday with the best yorkies. I don't do one every weekend but probably every second week in the colder months.

agedknees · 13/01/2019 15:41

Sleeping off Sunday lunch. Think I’ll stay here this week. Keep it up human slaves.

Jaxtellerswife I started it 23 years ago when eldest would "sit" at table in his pram.

PoutySprout · 13/01/2019 15:42

Didn’t grow up having them. Make one maybe 3 times a year including Xmas.

cloudtree · 13/01/2019 15:43

Every sunday lunchtime. If we are out for some reason and won't be able to have sunday lunch then I do it on the Saturday instead.

Just had roast pork tenderloin in garlic chilli and ginger, roast potatoes, stuffing, carrots, broccoli, parsnips and gravy. Followed by Lotus biscuit cheesecake.

cloudtree · 13/01/2019 15:45

We always had Sunday roast when growing up and I never even thought not to do it to be honest. Its just what you eat on a Sunday.

shecamefromgreece · 13/01/2019 15:45

I do one most Sundays.
We've got four kids and they will eat more veg on a Sunday dinner for some reason, also I want them to look back at their childhoods and remember all sitting down together Ona Sunday and enjoying a nice meal together.

barbiegrl · 13/01/2019 15:46

Yep-every Sunday here! Wouldn't be Sunday without a roast :)
